Boeing Waits Until After Election to Announce Lay-Offs

The day after President Obama was elected to a second term, Boeing announced a 30 percent cut in managerial positions in the company.

Those being laid off were told the company is an "affordability drive" which has already allowed it to cut costs by $2.2 billion since 2010. The employees were told the company's goal is to cut another $1.6 billion between 2013 and 2015.

Boeing says the cuts are not part of the president's $500 billion in defense cuts, set to take effect in January 2013. But this is hard to believe, particularly since other defense contractors, like Lockheed Martin, have been warning that the president's military cuts were going to lead to job losses in defense.

In fact, in September, Lockheed Martin and other defense contractors were threatening to go ahead and lay their workers off before the election so voters could see the impact of Obama's cuts, but Obama's team talked them out of it. At the time, the Obama administration told them it would be "inappropriate" to lay the workers off ahead of the election.

Looks like at least one of the defense contractors was able to hold out till the day after the election.

I would love to know how many of these who are being layed off voted for obama....

Vegas Employer: Obama Won, So I Fired 22 Employees

A Las Vegas business owner with 114 employees fired 22 workers today, apparently as a direct result of President Obama’s re-election.

“David” (he asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) told Host Kevin Wall on 100.5 KXNT that “elections have consequences” and that “at the end of the day, I need to survive.”

Here’s an excerpt from the interview. Click the audio tab below to hear even more from this compelling conversation:

“I’ve done my share of educating my employees. I never tell them which way to vote. I believe in the free system we have, I believe in the right to choose who they want to be president, but I did explain as a business owner that I have always put my employees first. I always made sure that when I went without a paycheck that [I] made sure they were paid. And I explained that I always put them first and unfortunately I’m at a point where I’m being forced to have to worry about me and my family now and a business that I built from just me to 114 employees.

“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.

“Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive. I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come. I have to build up that nest egg now for the taxes and regulations that are coming my way. Elections do have consequences, but so do choices. A choice you make every day has consequences and you know what, I’ve always put my employees first, but unfortunately today I have to put me and my family first, and you watch what’s gonna happen. I’m just one guy with 114 employees — well was 114 employees — watch what happens in the next six months. The Dow alone lost 314 points today. There’s a tsunami coming and if you didn’t think this election had consequences, just wait.”

My employer told us today that he may be paying the penalty for ObamaCare rather than offering the group plan. Penalty is much cheaper and the co can no longer afford to pick up what they have been paying.

Re: Life for Drudge

First Obama is reelected, and now McDonald’s is on some sort of downward slope?  Surely this is a clear sign the end times are near.

Virginia store closes for a day to 'mourn the loss of America'

Virginia's 13 electoral votes went to President Obama for the second straight election, and the proprietor of a store in the south central city of Bedford is not hiding his dismay.

Lyons Jewelers hung up multiple signs on the windows of the shop indicating the shop would not be open for business Wednesday, including one saying the store was closed to "mourn the loss of the America that our forefathers endowed to us," WDBJ reported.

"Lyons will reopen tomorrow to continue the fight against a president who seeks my demise" and "Shame on VA & USA" read two other signs.

Another played off a remark Mr. Obama made while campaigning in Roanoke earlier this year about businesses and government assistance that Republicans latched onto as a campaign theme: "I know I didn't build this — God did."

One customer did hang up a sign as a response of sorts: "I am sorry you feel this way!!! I do bussiness (sic) I guess I will take it somewhere else!!"

With nearly 100 percent of precincts reporting, Republican Mitt Romney won Bedford City, 54 percent to 44 percent, as well as Bedford County, 71 percent to 27 percent. Mr. Obama carried the state with 50.7 percent of the vote to Mr. Romney's 47.7 percent, according to unofficial results — a difference of about 110,000 votes out of approximately 3.7 million cast.

I am hoping the mcDonald's sales are hurting because people are finally starting to realize that their food is not good for your health...

McDonalds is where some of my kids got their first jobs Buck.  They had an excellent training program back them and I am proud to say they gained great work ethics that I attribute to their training there.

McDonalds does offer a lot of healthy choices now if you want to go that route.  It is a huge employer in BOTH our economies and that report is signs that something is going very wrong.

The fact that a company offers jobs does not excuse its practices. I have a lot friends that started at McD's as well.

Sometimes the work ethic is great but I have also seen a lot of very poor work ethics at a lot of McD's.

We could argue about this for a while but the fast food situation, not just McD's, has not helped this countries health overall. It has had quite the opposite affect...

I gotta go with Buck on this one.  My sister worked there during summers when she was in college in the 70s.  They had some work ethic then but the same McDs, not so much anymore.  Hard to live on those wages so less motivation after a while.

If McDs is a major employer in both our economies- there is a problem.

I feel bad for all the emplyees that are fired or lay off, we the job situation being as it is...I hope they won't have to go on welfare also!

I think the largest factor in McD's low sales is that Wendy's and Burger King have revamped their menus to be more healthy. McD's has made some progress in their menu but not enough. Nothing wrong with fast food, many of us need that service. If you make smart choices it's not a problem. Also, many people eat there because of the $1 menu.

Those are good starting positions for kids and college students who need part time work. Also many moms work at those types of jobs while their children are in school.

I only feel bad for those who did not vote for Obama and are out of work. If you voted for Obie, you are getting what you voted for.

Nan.....Green Stars....I couldn't agree with you more.

many of us need that service.

I completely disagree with this.

No one needs it. We have just accepted this as something we need. McD's could serve a high quality menu but they don't. The main goal of mcD's is not to serve high quality food. It is to serve as much lower quality food as they can and make money.

There is nothing wrong with making money but plenty of money could be made while still adhereing to a certain level of quality.

We all know the horror stories of fast food and there ingredients, additives, and over the top caloric values.

We know large quantities of fast food are not good for us, yet we still support it. By now I hope we have all seen "Super Size Me."

If not, I suggest you do.

Then immediately after you watch that google "bulletproof diet" and get your body and mind back in order...

I'm so glad I don't partake in "fast food" places.....just not a fan at all!!!!  I'd much rather go to a restaurant and be wined and dined.'s time for a glass of's Five!!!!

Ohhhh have a great time Buck!

Well now if you are talking about wining and dining a lady then definitely do not do Mickey dees!!  Nope ..... sounds great Buck!  I hope it works out for you!

Buck...nan was just saying there is nothing wrong with the fast food service as some of us need it in the event kids have a school program and no time to run home and make something to eat or other instances like that. She did mention that Mc D's has improved some but not near what Wendy's and the rest of them have. So I think that is all she meant. For sure the competition for these fast food places needs to have upgrades on their foods they serve.I have to say I love Wendy's French Fries better than Mc'D's!!!

Have a great time tonight on your date...wining and dinning is good for a relationship!! Even when you've been married for years!!!

It's going to be real interesting to see how fast this country goes down the tubes!! Boehner is a doubt about it..he don't have any guts!!

I need it. Or I did when I had 4 children at home. Between working 40-50 hrs/wk and shuttling children to baseball, basketball, guitar lessons, etc.... Fast food saved my sanity. There is nothing wrong with the occasional meal at a fast food restaurant if one makes good choices. You can get grilled chicken sandwich, salad, apple slices, milk, water, etc...  It's all about choices. Wendy's has some very good salads.

Hope you have a great date Buck
