Papa John's Appreciation Day Planned By Obamacare Opponents
1 year ago

Papa Johns

On Friday Papa John's customers not only can get a deal on the Double Bacon Six-Cheese pizza, they also have the chance to appreciate CEO's John Schnatter's plan to pass on the costs of Obamacare to his employees and customers.

That's right Papa John’s Appreciation Day is here. Organized by the conservative group Rebooting America, the event aims to prop-up the controversial national pizza chain with pizza sales and online support, according to the group's Facebook page. There's even a hashtag: #IStandWithPapaJohns.

Rebooting America argues that Papa John's is only reacting reasonably to the pressures of the new Health Care law. Its Facebook page proclaims: "Papa Johns has been targeted by the left for a boycott, for simply articulating that ObamaCare would hurt profits and force cutbacks in employee hours. Stand up to this nonsensical and illogical action and support Papa Johns this Friday!"

Many have expressed outrage over CEO John Schnatter’s plan to pass on the costs of Obamacare by raising prices and cutting workers' hours so they don’t qualify as full-time employees entitled to health care coverage. Both moves have elicited a general call to boycott on Reddit and Facebook as well as entire meme mocking the pizza chain and a rant from Jon Stewart.

Indeed Papa John's Facebook page is now the scene of a fierce political debate. Supportive comments such as "Go Papa John's! We love your pizza and the way you take care of your employees and stand up for our country! You're the best! <3" have been met with less enthused ones such as this quip on Papa John's slogan "Better ingredients, better pizza, better not get sick." A left-leaning group has even used the page to troll for similarly-minded critics of Papa John's, writing "Like our page if you are AGAINST corporations denying healthcare."

Rebooting America is looking to emulate the success of Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, launched to support the popular fast-food chain's CEO after he came under fire for opposing gay marriage.

“The Left thinks we are discouraged; they think they have won. Let's send a clear message this Friday, like we did on Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, that we are here to stay and that we won't stop fighting.”
