Jim DeMint leaving the Senate

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) is leaving Congress in January to lead the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, as first  reported by the Wall Street Journal.

DeMint, a staunch conservative who often clashes with party leadership, was reelected to a second term in 2010. He will depart before the new Congress is sworn in next month.  “I’ve decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas,” DeMint said in a statement. “My constituents know that being a Senator was never going to be my career.”

The senator, a vocal advocate for term limits, had already pledged not to seek a third term.

Before entering politics, DeMint worked in market research, and he told the Journal that he’s excited about taking Heritage Foundation research and working to “translate those policy papers into real-life demonstrations of things that work.”

DeMint will take over from Ed Fuelner, who has been president of the Heritage Foundation since 1977.

“Senator DeMint has done more to advance the cause of freedom and liberty in Congress than anyone else since his election,” said Chris Chocola, president of the anti-tax Club for Growth, in a statement congratulating the senator. “We wish him nothing but the best in his new role at Heritage.”

I hate to see him leave the Senate, but he will be an asset to the Heritage Foundation.  I think many are fed up in DC and many don't want anything to do with the mess that is rising now.  Thank you have totally mucked up everything!!!!  I don't think both parties have ever been so split as they are have divided this country in so many ways that I fear it will take years to ever get it back to where it once was.

Thanks Donna for posting this.

You're welcome Maui!

He will be missed here in South Carolina, Maui, but being he would not run for a 3 term like promised, he is going where he can do some good.

Yup, we sure are one divided country, the likes I've never seen before.  And I'm old!

At least he kept that promise, unlike the bozo occupying the WH.  I wish him well.

Obama needs to go where he can do some good too! -Out of this country.

Hang on Sherry......we may never get rid of the obamas:

Michelle Obama for Senate? PPP Says Yes

Could First Lady Michelle Obama go the route of Hillary Clinton?

It’s only hypothetical this point, but a survey done by Public Policy Polling gives Mrs. Obama the lead over Sen. Mark Kirk 51 to 40 percent, should she choose to challenge Kirk in 2016 for an Illinois senate seat.  From PPP.

If Michelle Obama decided she wanted to follow the Hillary Clinton route once her husband leaves office in 2016 and go to the Senate, she'd have the upper hand on Mark Kirk. She leads him 51/40 in a hypothetical head to head. Kirk's approval numbers are ok with 34% of voters approving of him to 19% who disapprove. But those numbers are no match for the first lady, who's seen positively by 60% of voters to 33% with a negative one.

Bret Baier just interviewed here is a "good American"......not afraid to say "NO" to his party or the dems.  We need more DeMints....but they are fed up...and resigning is the only option.....I truly think he will succeed in getting those Conservatives voices out there who truly do believe in our Country by becoming President of the Heritage Foundation.  Such an honest and sincere man!!!!

As Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) leaves the Senate to take the leadership post at Heritage Foundation, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) showed her class today, bashing DeMint. Speaking of the Senate ratification of a UN treaty on treatment of those with disabilities, she railed, “For them to slap the face of our veterans, of people with disabilities, of families with children with disabilities, that was one of the saddest days. So anyone who was a party to that, well, I wish them well wherever they are going, and hope that we can have more of our values represented [by whoever replaces him].”

Parents with children with disablities do not want the UN calling the damn shots!  Makes me so damn mad!

Yet if you look in the news threads here they are blaming all the Republicans when even your Senate voted this down.  When did Americans become so stoopid they don't seem to know the Senate has a huge DEMOCRATIC majority?

They were right to vote this down.  Voted down the internet control the UN wanted as well.  The UN is corrupt and it is time we start pressuring our government to LEAVE the UN.

Right Cam..the UN needs to go!
