Sherry..Sorry I thought I had an egg nog recipe but I guess I didn't..it was a Hot Buttered Rum recipe..and Kahlua and Bailey's Irish Cream one's..LOL...BUTI did fond some on the internet for you and don't know if it sounds like what you want or not but I guess you could try it if you like!! Here it is..Ingredients
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
- 1 pint whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 ounces bourbon
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 4 egg whites*
In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Add the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg and stir to combine.
Place the egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat to soft peaks. With the mixer still running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
Whisk the egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve.
Cook's Note: For cooked eggnog, follow procedure below.
In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Set aside.
In a medium saucepan, over high heat, combine the milk, heavy cream and nutmeg and bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and gradually temper the hot mixture into the egg and sugar mixture. Then return everything to the pot and cook until the mixture reaches 160 degrees F. Remove from the heat, stir in the bourbon, pour into a medium mixing bowl, and set in the refrigerator to chill.
In a medium mixing bowl, beat the egg whites to soft peaks. With the mixer running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk the egg whites into the chilled mixture.
Food Network Kitchens suggest caution in consuming raw and lightly cooked eggs due to the slight risk of salmonella or other food-borne illness. To reduce this risk, we recommend you use only fresh, properly refrigerated, clean grade A or AA eggs with intact shells, and avoid contact between the yolks or whites and the shell. For recipes that call for eggs that are raw or undercooked when the dish is served, use shell eggs that have been treated to destroy salmonella, by pasteurization or another approved method.
This was a 5 star one..
This sounds good and is cooked.
So there you go...don't know if that will help or not but anyway....
Here is a Tom and Jerry Batter:
3 eggs separate yolks from whites
beat each one 10 to15 minutes
fold together and beat an additional 10 minutes
Add at least 1 and 1/2 lbs of powdered sugar..beat until thick and add some Nutmeg..Keep Refrigerated!
This recipe is by a lady that was put in the Bristol Bay Times Newspaper years ago!
1 pound of real butter
1 pound powdered sugar
1 pound brown sugar
1 qt softened Vanilla Ice Cream
Mix all oingedients together. If desired add spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin pie spices to taste. Put in a container and freeze. At the time of use, remove desired amount of batter into a mug. Add hot water and Rum and stir!
4 cups sugar
5 cups water
2 tsp vanilla
1 qt everclear or Vodka (I use more Vodka to make it stronger)
2 0z or 1/4 cup instant coffee
Boil sugar and water together for 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, adding vanilla last. Mix together and let cool. (Will get thicker as it cools and ages)
For thicker, stronger Kahlua reduce water to 4 cups.
8 oz Whipping Cream
8 oz Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
8 oz Irish Whiskey
2 whole eggs
1 Tbls Hershey Chocolate Syrup
Blend in blender and store in container and refrigerate.
Water... 1-1/3 cups
honey.... 2 tblsp
Olive Oil...1 to 2 tblsp
Onion Flakes....1 to 2 tblsp (optional) or whatever you want to add to them. If you want to add Bluberries... I would add (dried) bluberries and then add them at about the last 6 minutes on your dough cycle. And maybe 1/2 cup! Anything left in the dough too long will become shredded on the mix cycle! The onion flakes are SO good!!
whole wheat flour...1 cup
bread flour...3 cups
Can Use all white flour if you want also..
Add all to bread maker on the DOUGH cycle...after 20 minutes take portions of dough out per bagel...I can usually get about 8...squeeze with both hands to lengthen the dough then roll between your hands to smooth the dough. Do not have any grease on your hands while preparing the Bagels.
Have a cup of water ready and tip a small portion of one end in the water and then seal the ends together.Lay on a greased cookie sheet and let rise for 20 minutes.
Turn oven on to 550 degrees...raise your oven rack to the second notch from the top of the oven...
In the mean time bring some water in a NON ALUMINUM pan (I use my cast iron fry pan) with 2 inches of water in it to a 'near boil' not quite though!...after the 20 minutes take 3 or 4, however big or small your Bagels are, and add them to the the water and steam them for 30 seconds on each side. Then lift out of the water and place on a pan with one sheet (thickness) of paper towel on it..two sheets they tend to want to stick to the paper towel..I've done it...LOL... From there place on a slightly greased pan..I use Pam spray.
I use a 'scoop' that is not flat but has a slight dip it in that (I use to take french fries and etc; out of hot oil so the oil will drip off) to place my Bagels in the water and to flip them and to take them out of the water and lay on the paper towel. This way they are not damaged by puncturing them at all. Also to take them off the paper towel and set them on the baking sheet. Sometimes I bake them on my Pampered Chef large stoneware! It works wonderful!
Once on the baking sheet I have a little bit of Olive Oil in a bowl..maybe a couple tablespoons full that I take my baster which is one of those rubbery very soft brushes..it's very flexible and does not push down on the dough...to baste the tops and sides of the Bagels. At this time you can also sprinkle poppy seeds, sesame seeds, onion flakes or whatever you want to try on them!
Put in the oven and bake for apx 15 minutes or until the tops of the Bagels are as golden brown as you want them to be! It took me several tries in order to finally come up with the manner in baking these Bagels that I liked!! Raising the oven rack was one of the major pluses in getting them to brown right! More heat on top! ENJOY!!!!!!
Nice recipes Carol. Made me think of Cam when I saw the thread title. You are such a talented cook. You should do what Diane O does in her group, she posts a recipe on Fridays..she is really a great cook, too. I know I would look forward to it. I have made many of Diane's recipes...mmm mmm good! LOL Pretty please!
Thank you thank you thank you Carol!!!! ~HUGS!~ That Hot Buttered Rum Batter looks good too. I have one for Kahlua, and I make it and fill my Sun tea jug with it w/leftover. I use the real vanilla beans too. If I could get some moonshine I'd try that too. Ever watch that Moonshiners on tv? But now my mouth is watering for egg nog!!!! Might be able to do that in just a few more days.
That sure was a lot of writing gal! Fingers tired yet?! LOL For heaven's sakes! Thank you again! But here I am in trouble--- I don't have a bread maker! Uh-ohhhh! I guess we will have to think about investing in one.
We just got back from Terrence's BD. They're all going to the Monster Truck show tomorrow. He had a Monster Truck BD cake, and he has a Grave Digger Monster Truck tshirt to wear there. Grave Digger is the one I like, and when we went to a show up in WA, we got to watch him make history with what happened when he went over some cars. He came so close to falling smack flat on his whole side, that there should have been no feasible way for it to come back upright, he was that close to the ground, but he did, & the whole auditorium was standing and screaming. They even replayed it on a big screen. The Monster truck the kids got their pic taken with and the driver, yesterday, was Bounty Hunter, when it was over here close to our HEB store. I gotta get a frame for their signed pic.
You all, this was just really weird. Just came back from outside, as mu hubby called me off the computer to come see. The whole atmosphere outside was really pink, really pink. It's getting paler pink now, but that was really strange-never seen anything like it.
Egg Nog ~ When working with 35 Commercial Real Estate Salesmen~
Through them off for a lupe.
Egg Nog in the coffee pot
Put in Apricot Brandy
Leave on Coffee Pot for refills...gads, I ran out in 1 hour and the guys were all happy!!! The outcome of salesmen was so funny, but at the same time I did see some men that did not drink and felt horrible!!! I drove them home, but the guys that knew what I did drank it dry and my boss the President said go get more. WHOA the joys of Office Work as a President's Secy.
When I had a party in my Senior high school year Mom did a big pot on the stove. WOW. Nowdays, for what my mother did would of thrown her in Jail.
BTW. Cam knew this and was laughing so hard when I wrote him the story. Actually, I went into more detail. But...Ummm Egg Nog.....Or is is Noggin on the Egg Head??? Sorry, just jumpped in for a second to take a peek seen and couldn't help myself.
Donna..Can you remind me!? I will try and remember that..honestly!!
Sherry..You would love having the bread maker I think! I make all of my bread recipes in the Bread Maker! Too much work for me to do by hand and my counters are a little high for my height so my shoulders would really kill me!! Besides if you get a bread machine then you can try my other recipes like for Pizza and Calzones! Nothing like homemade Calzones and Pizzas the way I make them! I bet the real Vanilla beans add a good flavor of vanilla!
That sky sounds gorgeous!!!! We have seen a LOT of really wierd gorgeous things in the sky up here too lately Sherry! I mean things we have never seen as long as we have lived here!! Almost makes one think about the sayings in the Bible!
I have always been going to make that Hot Buttered Rum Recipe but never have because we never had the Ice Cream here when I thought about it! But I have had a Hot Buttered Rum drink and love them!! Some of those egg nog recipes sounded really good too!! And I don't think they sounded too expensive at least the booze you can keep the left overs if you don't drink a lot for the next batch..LOL
Yeah that was a bit of typing but not too bad!! Those Monster truck shows is that the ones where those big high trucks ride over top of the other ones!? I bet the kids go ape over that!! I have watched those a couple of times and it's unreal how they do that!! I will stick to low ground!!! The kids will like the pictures framed!! You're a good Grandma Sherry!!
Oh I bet they had fun Marilyn!!!!!!!!!
Ancil, your DROOL got me laughing. LOL It'd be fun if we could all get together one day and have a party! I could just see us!
HaHa! Just kidding. I bet we'd have a good time.
Hey Mm! The guys were all happy huh?!!! Hahahaha I bet they were. My hubby was telling me about how their Grandpa used to own a bar, and he and his brothers would go there w/their dad, and Grandpa like on a special occasion would give them one each, but that's all, the short can of beer. Yep, talking about going to jail! Apricot brandy in egg nog? Never heard of it, but you never know till ya try!
Carol. my husband said when he first noticed the sky and everything around, it was orange, then got bright pink, and he knew it was fading so he came in and grabbed me to go out and look. He said the orange was really strange too, but neat. Everything had a pink color, the air was pink when I went out, it was odd, but really cool. I gotta get around here soon to making one of those egg nog recipes!
My poor hubby. We just came back from the hot tub, and he thought he'd just relax and have a nice big fat cigar while in there. Welllll...........he's in there in the bedroom laying down right now because the cigar made him feel sick! He said he isn't getting anymore of those big fat cigars. LOL
Good suggestion Ex.- You should do that Carol. Your pics I have seen of your goodies look so yummy!
Ooooh. I can't quit thinking about my poor hubby.
He hasn't had one for quite a while, so they were like a treat and he'd enjoy one when we're in the hot tub. But this big bad boy got to him. I think he'll go for the smaller milder ones from now on. Haha Poor guy.
I think that's what I would do too Sherry!! Must have been a powerful C-gar!!!!!!!! I have even smoked a smaller one and it wasn't too bad..the skinny ones you know. Not the fat boys!! Sure hope he gets to feeling better soon!
I will add some recipe's if I have some reminders that Friday is coming up.. Out here you know one day runs into the next and they all pretty much seem the same!
I think it is the moisture and etc; in the air with the combination of the Sun shinning on it that gives off the colors that it does. We have seen some of the most gorfeous Sunrises and Sunsets since we've lived here that we have never seen anyplace else!
Fixing to head out to bed all. Carol, I would love to see those sunrises and sunsets!
I can imagine they are spectacular.
Ohoh. My hubby just came through, and he don't look good at all. He said no headache, but you can tell he feels sick. Calling it a night and seeing if there's anything I can do for him.
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE!!!
