I had a Barn Owl and he definately was a hoot December 12, 2004 11:12 AM

Owliver was brought to me as a fledgling with white fluff, no feathers.  Even as young as he was, he was very intimidating!  I had him in an incubator for the first two weeks and by then he had become tame to my hand.  He was really cool, but not to be taken forr granted!  We maintained a mutual respect for each other and he tolerated no one else in his flight cage.  He is and was my spirit animal.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Cool, I've seen Barn Owls in the west but not here. Somebody gave me the squirrel & I tamed her. She was not easily tamed as I had lots of bites on me. But eventually she had the run of the house ~ intimidating anything & everything. Things kinda came to a halt when we got a male baby squirrel. Rascal had already established her territory & bit the baby something fierce. He was traumatized & bit me. He died & I almost didn't get my finger out of his mouth before he died ~ he had a tight grip with those rodent teeth.

Rascal got to where she liked the family, but didn't like strangers & "attacked" my dad. He was afraid of her after that. My Great Dane also turned on people. She liked females, but when a man came around, she'd growl fiercely. She was always good around the boys & my parents, but she was constantly getting out of the house & acting juvenile. She was a hoot tho. She'd "hide" under the tablecloth only her big body couldn't get under it. And, she'd sit on a chair, couch or even people's laps. She'd just back up to them & sit like you or me!

Raptors seemed to find me December 13, 2004 11:12 PM

if they were wounded and the local police department would bring me any wounded critters (wild) that they found.

You sure are right on the squirrels they can be pretty intimidating! Unfortunately I have to find a way to eliminate them from my property, I am being over run by them. I had a baby one that some friends found and I used leather gloves after the first bite.  He would roll over on his back if he saw his little baby bottle first, but he would charge me if he saw my hand.  The little guy only weighed an ounce or two-talk about courageous animals!!

The most enjoyable though were baby doves, they were so gentle and sweet!  More later...

Oh, they called me Mother Big Bird, that crazy lady on the corner, way back then.

Thanks for opening this site Destiny, it's fun to remeber some of my younger days!

Awwww, If you get any more squirrels, will you send me one? I miss them so much.

Do you see them in the photo? Enlarge it, Rascal is eating out of Cinnamon's bowl while Cin looks bewildered & she could gulp her with one bite. Also, Ras had just snitched some of Whisper's food & darted by her. Whis just sat & watched nonchalant.

Ras used to climb in my cabinets when she did something she knew that was wrong. Usually in the cabs she's do her chirping sound & "wag" (for lack of a better word) her tail. But when she was "hiding" she wouldn't make a sound. When I'd find her, I'd pop her on the bottom & put her in her cage. She was truly one of the household.
