Support Sea Otter Recovery (U.S.A.) May 12, 2010 11:41 AM

Take Action for Sea Otters! In 2009, the sea otter population in California declined for the first time in over 10 years.

Please ask your Senator to support this vital bill to authorize funding for much-needed research to investigate high mortality and slow population growth of the Southern sea otter.

Offshore drilling is not the answer. Demand a clean energy future. May 07, 2010 8:39 AM

On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. Now, an oil spill on pace to be worse than Exxon Valdez is pumping at least 5,000 barrels of oil a day – that's over 200,000 gallons – into the biologically diverse and commercially productive Gulf of Mexico. Thousands of sea birds, dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and other animals are threatened by the ever growing plume of toxic sludge.

Say NO to drilling in the Arctic! April 29, 2010 7:39 AM

The Department of Interior recently announced a revised national oil and gas drilling plan that would allow oil companies to conduct exploratory drilling in remote Arctic waters as soon as this summer, and we can't let that happen.

Drilling exploration wells in the sensitive Arctic waters of the Beaufort and Chukchi seas could push this fragile region — and the wildlife, people, and communities who depend on it — past the breaking point. The bottom line is that we need better science and a more precautionary approach in the Arctic to preserve its pristine ecosystems for the health and well-being of the entire planet.

Please fill out the form below to send a letter to Interior Secretary Salazar. Tell him NO exploratory drilling in the Arctic until we better understand what the impacts will be.

Take Action - Save Australia's Flatback Sea Turtles April 14, 2010 8:07 AM

The Australian flatback turtle and five other species of marine turtles have been forgotten in the fossil fuel frenzy occurring in the Northwest of Western Australia. Chevron is building natural gas refineries and pipelines through critical sea turtle habitat with little, if any, protections for nesting beaches and coastal waters. Urgent action is needed to stop the destructive expansion of natural gas extraction here before it is too late for the flatbacks.his is a  flatback sea turtle on Barrow Island where Chevron has already broken ground on a massive natural gas refinery on top of a rookery for 1,000 nesting females. These same sea turtles swim north to the Kimberley region where Chevron and Big Oil are pushing to construct another massive natural gas plan.

Sea Turtles from the Last Song with Miley Cyrus Need Your Help! April 08, 2010 11:55 AM

Help the beautiful loggerheads seen in The Last Song with Miley Cyrus gain endangered status now!

Loggerheads seen nesting in The Last Song  are in danger of extinction! President Obama's sea turtle experts are recommending that they be listed as endangered! Please let them know that you saw The Last Song and you think that the loggerheads must be protected so they can live forever along the coast of Georgia, Florida and around the world!

In the U.S., loggerheads are captured and harmed by fishing lines and hooks  that crisscross sea turtle swimming and feeding zones. With endangered status, they will be protected from such dangers wherever they roam.

Make sure that this is not the last song for the loggerheads! Send a letter by June 14 to make your voice heard in favor of endangered protection for loggerheads that swim the waters of the United States and across the world's oceans!

Stop the Whale and Dolphin Slaughter in the Faroe Islands February 09, 2010 12:55 PM

Target: Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands and Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs
Sponsored by: Care2.com
A recent news article explains that dolphins are so intelligent, they should be thought of as "non-human persons", and that they "have distinct personalities, a strong sense of self and can think about the future."

These intelligent, sensitive creatures are slaughtered in the Faroe Islands.

Protect Cook Inlet Beluga Whales February 09, 2010 10:59 AM

As the population of Alaska’s Cook Inlet beluga whales plummeted from over 1,200 in 1979 to only 326 in 2009, these iconic whales were finally listed as endangered in 2008.

Now, a new proposal announced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) aims to protect more than 3,000 square miles of their aquatic home -- and would give these struggling marine mammals the protections they need to survive.

Take action now: Urge NOAA to adopt this proposal to help save the Cook Inlet beluga whales.

Please take action today -- the deadline for comments is February 1, 2010
**Deadline Extended to March 3, 2010**
