"Hope only brings the possibility of freedom. Creator works through each of us to make miracles happen and, so, we must always do our part. Be a living prayer... connected to sky and earth and all our relations... possessed with courage, generosity, humility, endurance, and wisdom. Vigorously pursue freedom in this way, every day and in every generation. Creator will bless your actions."--Anonymous

I have this comment on my office wall, I think its from a Crow War song - I do stand corrected though:

Whenever there is any trouble, I shall not die but get through,

Though arrows are many, I shall survive

This helps me when I feel I am drowning at work, I always look up at this saying and it helps me to get through.

I have another poster with many different native American Indian Nations on it and the saying is:

We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.

I also have a poster with a Cree Indian Phrophecy on it:

Only after the last tree has been cut down,

Only after the last river has been poisoned,

Only after the last fish has been caught,

Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

The Spirit Within Us...An American Indian Point of View

By James Runningfox Moss Sr, Ph.D

Deep inside each of us is an energy force that directs and controls the entire trail of our life. This spiritual energy force can be measured on modern scientific instruments. I believe it is part of the Creator that was left in each of us which to me is much like a special stitch a tailor leaves behind or a special something a craftsman leaves in a finished product.

American Indian Elders have always taught that the Creator gave all of us the power to feel the presence of this spiritual energy force and to put it to use in rebuilding ourselves and to bring about true healing to our bodies and minds.

I believe by turning the power of our minds to that part of the Creator of the universe that lies within each of us and raising our emotional system to a certain vibrational level either through prayers or meditation or other ways, we can become aware of currents of force that are almost electric in nature and are healing in their effect.
It is a scientific fact that surrounding each of us and built within every cell of our bodies is a field of energy.
This same field of energy surrounds and flows through everything within our known and unknown universe, both animate and inanimate, seen and unseen.

This energy field and force is our link with the entire universe~it makes up our higher self~ it is The SPIRIT within each of us.

(Apache)

Mountain Spirit, leader of the Mountain Spirits, your body is holy.
By means of it, make him well again.
Make his body like your own.
Make him strong again.

He wants to get up with all of his body.
For that reason, he is performing this ceremony,
Do that which he has asked of you.

Long ago, it seems you restored someone's legs and eyes for them.
This has been said.
In the same way, make him free again from disease.
That is why I am speaking to you.

An Apache Scout Prayer "Grandfather of all Scouts...

Teach me to be the eyes of my people.

Teach me to move like the shadow.

Allow me to become the winds, the rocks,

the soils, and the life force in all it's forms.

Allow me to suffer for my people and take away their pain.

Honor me by allowing me to die for my people.

For I love my people beyond myself and I will

sacrifice my all for my people, my earth, and for you.

Test me beyond all hardship and pain.

Create me as you would forge a tool, and

if you find I am worthy, then bless me

as your servant - your Scout."

An Indian Prayer
By: H. Kent Craig

My grandfather is the fire
My grandmother is the wind
The Earth is my mother
The Great Spirit is my father
The World stopped at my birth
and laid itself at my feet
And I shall swallow the Earth whole
when I die
and the Earth and I will be one
Hail The Great Spirit, my father
without him no one could exist
because there would be no will to live
Hail The Earth, my mother
without which no food could be grown
and so cause the will to live to starve
Hail the wind, my grandmother
for she brings loving, lifegiving rain
nourishing us as she nourishes our crops
Hail the fire, my grandfather
for the light, the warmth, the comfort he brings
without which we be animals, not men
Hail my parent and grandparents
without which
not I
nor you
nor anyone else
could have existed
Life gives life
which gives unto itself
a promise of new life
Hail the Great Spirit, The Earth, the wind, the fire
praise my parents loudly
for they are your parents, too
Oh, Great Spirit, giver of my life
please accept this humble offering of prayer
this offering of praise
this honest reverence of my love for you.

Unconditional Love, Love Without Condition

I love you as you are, as you seek to find your own special way to relate to the world.

I honour your choices to learn in the way you feel is right for you.

I know it is important that you are the person you want to be and not someone that I or others think you "should" be. I realise that I cannot know what is best for you, although perhaps sometimes I think I do.

I have not been where you have been, viewing life from the angle you have. I do not know what you have chosen to learn, how you have chosen to learn it, with whom or in what time period. I have not walked life looking through your eyes, so how can I know what you need.

I allow you to be in the world without a thought or word of judgement from me about the deeds you undertake. I see no error in the things you say and do. In this place where I am, I see that there are many ways to perceive and experience the different facets of our world. I allow without reservation the choices you make in each moment. I make no judgement of this, for if I would deny your right to your evolution, then I would deny that right for myself and all others.

To those who would choose a way I cannot walk, whilst I may not choose to add my power and my energy to this way, I will never deny you the gift of love that God has bestowed within me, for all creation. As I love you, so I shall be loved. As I sow, so shall I reap.

I allow you the Universal right of Free Will to walk your own path, creating steps or to sit awhile if that is what is right for you. I will make no judgement that these steps are large or small, nor light or heavy or that they lead up or down, for this is just my viewpoint. I may see you do nothing and judge it to be unworthy and yet it may be that you bring great healing as you stand blessed by the Light of God. I cannot always see the higher picture of Divine Order.

For it is the inalienable right of all life to choose their own evolution and with great Love I acknowledge your right to determine your future. In humility I bow to the realisation that the way I see as best for me does not have to mean it is also right for you. I know that you are led as I am, following the inner excitement to know your own path.

I know that the many races, religions, customs, nationalities and beliefs within our world bring us great richness and allow us the benefit and teachings of such diverseness. I know we each learn in our own unique way in order to bring that Love and Wisdom back to the whole. I know that if there were only one way to do something, there would need only be one person.

I will not only love you if you behave in a way I think you should, or believe in those things I believe in. I understand you are truly my brother and my sister, though you may have been born in a different place and believe in another God than I.

The love I feel is for all of God's world. I know that every living thing is a part of God and I feel a Love deep within for every person, animal, tree and flower, every bird, river and ocean and for all the creatures in all the world.

I live my life in loving service, being the best me I can, becoming wiser in the perfection of Divine Truth, becoming happier in the joy of ...

Great Spirit Prayer

Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind,

Whose breath gives life to all the world.

Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice

Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.

Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me.

Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others.

Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me.

I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy

Myself.

Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.

So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

Go Forward With Courage

When you are in doubt, be still, and wait;
when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage.
So long as mists envelop you, be still;
be still until the sunlight pours through and dispels the mists
-- as it surely will.
Then act with courage.

Lakota Instructions for Living

Friend do it this way - that is,
whatever you do in life,
do the very best you can
with both your heart and mind.

And if you do it that way,
the Power Of The Universe
will come to your assistance,
if your heart and mind are in Unity.

When one sits in the Hoop Of The People,
one must be responsible because
All of Creation is related.
And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.
And the honor of one is the honor of all.
And whatever we do effects everything in the universe.

If you do it that way - that is,
if you truly join your heart and mind
as One - whatever you ask for,
that's the Way It's Going To Be.

A Creed To Live By
Nancye Sims

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others.

It is because we are different that each of us are special. Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only do what is best for you.

Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless.

Don't let life slip through your fingers by living in the past or in the future. By living one day at a time you live all days of your life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is the fragile thread that binds us to each other.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Don't shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible. The fastest way to lose love is to hold to it tightly, and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

Don't dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope, to be without hope is to be without purpose.

Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you are going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savoured each step of the way.

Have a very blessed and happy day!

A Life of Positive Thinking and Laughter. Having A Sense Of Humor Can Empower You

By Jordan Richardson

Living a life of positive thinking and laughter is bound to have you feeling happier and more successful throughout your day-to-day routine. In fact, people who make positive thinking and laughter a key goal in their lives tend to experience more daily success and happiness than anyone else. There are key steps to achieving happiness by incorporating a good attitude and a sense of humor in your life: visualizing goals and maintaining the right attitude. Visualizing goals and going after them is a key component to positive thinking because it is a successful technique that helps you achieve the results you want. Keeping a good attitude towards life is a great way to make laughter a greater part of your life. Having a sense of humor can empower you, even in the most distressing situations. Instead of making a bad situation worse, a sense of humor can help you overcome any negative emotions and get you in the frame of mind to solve whatever problem is at hand.

Daily Happiness and Success
Having daily happiness and success is all about developing a habit. You'll need to start making a few changes in your life if you want to experience positive thinking and laughter on a regular basis, and you'll want to create an environment that encourages both those qualities. One of the first things you'll want to do in developing your “happy habit” is to change the way you look at things in your life. It’s important to keep a realistic view about things that happen in your life, but your attitude about setbacks can make a big difference in your mood and possibly your health.  Chronic stress has been linked to a variety of health conditions, including depression, ulcers and heart disease.

Walking The Red Road

Our Creator has a plan for all of us. We must try hard to walk the Redroad, and to stay on this path. We must learn to listen to what our heart's speak to us. We must pray and let the smoke take our prayers to Creator, daily. In the morning when the day is new and at night before we rest. We must always thank Creator for our food and all he has given us, as It is He who will always lovesd us and He who made us.

We must continue to take part in caring for Mother Earth as she is sick and in need. She has provided us with all we need to survive. The food we eat, the air we breathe. We must do all we can to make sure she can continue to provide, for the sake of the children.

We must love one another. Love means many things. It is caring, compassion, and sacrifice. and to do all we can to help each other. Whatever the need is, food, clothing, a warm
place to sleep, prayers or a hug, we do all we can for our brothers and sisters of this world. This love is all the time, not just when we want to, or when we have time.

We must teach the children to walk the Red Road, to care for Mother Earth. We must teach them their heritage and their their culture. The children are the future, and if we fail to teach them, their heritage is lost to them, and we as Native Americans may no longer exist as a people.

We must teach them to walk tall, to be proud of who and what they are. We must teach them to fight for justices of all our people ,as a whole. To band together as one people, one tribe, and to put aside their differences, and focus on the rights of our people as one. To stand together as one. To be one strong as one To agree to disagree for the good of our people as a one. To stand up for the protection of Mother Earth, and all creations on her.

We should never judge another person as we have not lived their lives, nor do we know what their hearts speak to them. If anyone does us wrong, we need to pray for them, not show anger. Show love and teach by example.

We must never disrespect the beliefs of another as we all have to listen to what our heart's speak to us. We have no right to try to change their beliefs and should respect them as we wouldn't want another to do this to us and our beliefs.Always respect others beliefs, ideas, and pray that they will respect yours. Always treat others as you want to be treated. Try to be the best person you can be, and grow Spiritually everyday.

Always know the words you speak can have different meanings to others, so always chose your words so they will not hurt anyone, as they can never be taken back . Sometimes even though you apologize, and even forgiven, there can be scars
left by words can stay in the heart of those we hurt. Always remember this before you speak and ask yourself if your words will hurt anyone before you say them.

Try not to waste time with worry about things that one cant change . Keep thinking on more positive things.

O great Spirit!

Osiyo my brothers and sisters in this group!

Great Spirit,
give us hearts to understand;
Never to take from creation's beauty more than we give;
Never to destroy wantonly for the furtherance of greed;
Never to deny to give our hands for the building of earth's beauty;
Never to take from her what we cannot use.

Give us hearts to understand
That to destroy earth's music is to create confusion;
That to wreck her appearance is to blind us to beauty;
That to callously pollute her fragrance is to make a house of stench;
That as we care for her she will care for us.

We have forgotten who we are.
We have sought only our own security.
We have exploited simply for our own ends.
We have distorted our knowledge.
We have abused our power.

Great Spirit, whose dry lands thirst,
help us to find the way to refresh your lands.

Great Spirit, whose waters are choked with debris and pollution,
help us to find the way to cleanse your waters.

Great Spirit, whose beautiful earth grows ugly with mis-use,
help us to find the way to restore beauty to your handiwork.

Great Spirit, whose creatures are being destroyed,
help us to find a way to replenish them.

Great Spirit, whose gifts to us are being lost
in selfishness and corruption,
help us to find the way to restore our humanity.

Have You Ever Caught a Snowflake?

I stood in a snowstorm one day surrounded by all that beauty. I felt good, and reached out and caught a snowflake in my hand. Have you ever caught a snowflake? Aren't they beautiful, so fragile and so clean. I know that beauty does not come by accident, it has to be created. Someone once told me that that there are never two snowflakes exactly the same. I'm sure no one can make a snowflake. I certainly couldn't, my hands are too big and clumsy. I know the maker of snowflakes must have tender loving hands to fashion such a tiny exquisite creation and drop it from the skyworld for me to enjoy. Since there are never two snowflakes alike, the Great One must care for each one separately and love it in His own way.

As I looked upon the snowflake in my hand, it reminded me that the Great One had also created me, and none of us two-legged are exactly the same, but in his eyes we are all just as beautiful to him.

Alas! My snowflake disappeared. I have only the memory of something beautiful that has passed my way. How wonderful it would be if everyone that belongs to Him could leave such an impression as we journey down life's road.

HE LOVED US EVEN BEFORE WE KNEW HIM.

Cherokee Traveler's Greeting:
Osiyo my brothers and sisters!

Cherokee Traveler's Greeting

I will draw thorns from your feet.

We will walk the White Path of Life together.
Like a brother of my own blood,
I will love you.
I will wipe tears from your eyes.
When you are sad,
I will put your aching heart to rest

I pray that all who may travel this summer that your travels be safe and you return to your nest of life! Peace be to all my brothers and sisters!

DREAMCATCHER

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow.
The same loving Father who cares for you
today will care for you tomorrow and everyday.
Either he will shield you from suffering or He
will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace then and put aside all anxious
thoughts and imaginings."

Have a wonderful weekend

Oh Great Spirit of our Ancestors, I raise
my pipe to you.
To your messengers the four winds, and
to Mother Earth who provides for your children.
Give us the wisdom to teach our children
to love, to respect, and to be kind
to each other so that they may grow
with peace of mind
Let us learn to share all good things that
you provide for us on this Earth.

Our Deepest Fear

cr_Richard_Hook-NA_Myths-071.jpg

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

"... that is what learning is.

You suddenly understand
something you've understood all your life,
but in a new way"

Quote from Doris Lessing

As I sit here, I gently and resolutely face difficult truths. I open my eyes to face that which was believed to be un-faceable. Remembering that sight brings insight. I now invite the sunlight of the spirit to illuminate my life.

"Give us grace and strength to forbear

and to persevere...

give us courage...

and the quiet mind..."

Quote by Robert Louis Stevenson

Today I step forward and out of isolation. I communicate to someone my heart's truth. I lay aside my defense and allow my heart to be seen unshadowed by secrets or by sorrow. As I reveal myself, I am seen and accepted: I am protected and healed.

"For good and evil, man is a free creative spirit"

Quote by Joyce Cary

Today I choose to cooperate with my healing. Rather than linger in self-pity, I reach out actively both for my own help and support and to offer those qualities to others. While I feel rejected by my beloved, I do not reject myself and I need not to stifle my own capacity for love. Unable to love fully the one I choose, I choose instead to love fully those I can!

How did I know

I was writing this poem long time ago, and indeed, years later I was dying physical of breast cancer and came back to appreciate this world

I died

Yesterday I died, now I know how it feels,                                            26 of may 2003

My fear was the first station I passed

After fear there’s nothing left

Almost nothing…

I found it…the life

Dolphins in the ocean are swimming thru me

blue and purple lights are covering the horizon

I am flying thru water

warm feels the death, painless and silent

In death I found silence

In death I found life

This physical world is an illusion!

"You could not step twice into the same rivers; for other waters are ever flowing over you".

Quote by Heraclitus

Today I consciously pace my day. I pay alert attention to the tempo of life's unfolding. I enjoy the pulse of life, the vitality of action and the peace of repose. "Rest" is a musical term and I savor the quiet moments of the day, the subtle seasons of my life as well as those times fraught with drama and urgency. I am a symphony of many moods. I accept them all!

"To keep a lamp buring we have to keep putting oil in it"!

Quote from Mother Theresa.

Communication is often difficult! Friendships may become clouded by unspoken and unshared feelings. In these times when my friendships are shadowed by such secrecy, I have to remind myself that I can hold a bright light in my heart, waiting for the right time to gently clear the air.

Rather than harbor anger  or resentment when communication is stifled, I pray  for the well being of my ensranged friend. My communicating is on a spiritual level for a continued connection of our bond.

Today , I renew my inner peace and commitment to honesty. Today I listen for the right timing for when to speak my heart. I will be alert and willing to follow inner guidence. I choose my moment and my words with healing grace!

                CIRCLE OF LIFE
          Black Elk, Oglala Sioux
Everything the Power of the World does is done in a circle. The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball and so are all the stars.
The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same, and both are round.
Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing and always come back where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves.

aws GREAT WINGS by Hanoochi
I fly high above the mountains riding on the swift air currents,
gently gliding without a ripple on the lake of the sky.
The warmth of the sun penetrates my powerful body and warms my beating heart as the cool and refreshing air rushes at every motion of my wings.
Higher and higher I fly, the light misty clouds surround me,enveloping my very being, guided only by the thermals of the heart.
Higher and higher I fly, what is behind me is now gone, but the clarity of what is above and below me pierces my soul with vibrance.
I ascend to the stars on the great wings of love.

Believe in your heart that
something wonderful is about to happen.
Love your life.
Believe in your own powers,
and your own potential,
and in your own innate goodness.
Wake every morning
with the awe of just being alive.
Discover each day the magnificent,
awesome beauty in the world.
Explore and embrace life in yourself
and in everyone you see each day.
Reach within to find your own specialness.
Amaze yourself and rouse those around you
to the potential of each new day.
Don't be afraid to admit
that you are less than perfect;
this is the essence of your humanity.
Let those who love you help you.
Trust enough to be able to take.
Look with hope to the horizon of today,
for today is all we truly have.
Live this day well.
Let a little sun out as well as in.
Create your own rainbows.
Be open to all your possibilities;
all possibilities and Miracles.

Always believe in Miracles.

Earth teach me caring ~ as mothers nurture their young.
Earth teach me courage ~ as the tree that stands alone.
Earth teach me limitation ~ as the ant that crawls on the ground.

An Ute Prayer

You have noticed that everything an Indian does in a circle,
a
nd that is because the Power of the World always works in circles, and everything and everything tries to be round.

In the old days all our power came to u
s from the sacred hoop
of the nation and so long as the hoop was unbroken the people
flourished. The flowering tree was the living center of the hoop, and the circle of the four quarters nourished it. The east gave peace and light, the south gave warmth, the west gave rain and the north with its cold and mighty wind gave strength and endurance. This knowledge came to us from the outer world with our religion.

Everything the power of the world does is done in a circle.
The sky is round and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same and both are round. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing and always come back again to where they were.

The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves. Our teepees were round like the nests of birds, and these were always set in a circle, the nation's hoop, a nest of many nests, where the Great Spirit meant for us to hatch our children.

Black Elk, Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux 1863-1950

Over a hundred years ago Black Elk had a vision of the time when Indian people would heal from the devastating effects
of European migration. In his vision the Sacred Hoop which had been broken, would be mended in seven generations.
The children born into this decade will be the seventh generation.

Cherokee Prayer Blessing

May the Warm Winds of Heaven
Blow softly upon your house.
May the Great Spirit
Bless all who enter there.
May your Mocassins
Make happy tracks
in many snows,
and may the Rainbow
Always touch your shoulder.

Native American Prayer

Oh, Great Spirit
Whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me, I am small and weak,
I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold
the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have
made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may understand the things
you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have
hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother,
but to fight my greatest enemy - myself.
Make me always ready to come to you
with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset,
my Spirit may come to you without shame.

(translated by Lakota Sioux Chief Yellow Lark in 1887)
published in Native American Prayers - by the Episcopal Church.

Go Forward With Courage

When you are in doubt, be still, and wait;
when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage.
So long as mists envelop you, be still;
be still until the sunlight pours through and dispels the mists
-- as it surely will.
Then act with courage.
