Closed Group Announcement February 20, 2005 6:08 PM

This group is now a closed group until further notice due to harrassment by a select few deranged CARE2 members.

It will be business as usual except when a new member attempts to join they will go through a brief screening process by moi.

Sorry to say it has come to this but the few sometimes ruin it for the many.

Any questions, feel free to pose them here.

I feel badly... February 20, 2005 6:18 PM

For you Donna. Even though I always thought a closed group was best, I know this is your group and you didn't want to close it. I'm sorry it came to this.

Donna February 20, 2005 6:31 PM

I think you did the best thing considering everything. I fully support your decision and I know that you will eventually be able to make it an "open" group again.

 [ send green star]

Yeah February 20, 2005 6:53 PM

well, even though the group is closed now and by rights only friends are here,  I`ll still be on the lookout for foes.  [ send green star]
sorry to hear that this group is closed now February 20, 2005 7:00 PM

Donna February 20, 2005 7:03 PM

The group says closed viewing, but open membership... I think you need to close a couple more doors.  [ send green star]
 February 20, 2005 7:11 PM

I think closing the group for the time being is a good idea. Everyone is behind you on your decision. Let's boot the trouble makers and go on.  [ send green star]
Marcy February 20, 2005 7:51 PM

Please tell us more about your project. We`d love to hear more.

Oh and the group isn`t closed down, just closed to dropins who aren`t personally invited by me or members.

Hopefully this will be temporary.

 [ send green star]
Noel February 20, 2005 7:53 PM

Check it now.

P.S. I`m going to set it to automatically approve anyone so long as they are invited by me or co-hosts and members.

 [ send green star]
 February 20, 2005 8:32 PM

Looks set, Donna.  [ send green star]
Well, well, well, February 21, 2005 4:18 AM

it appears we still have troublemaking members onboard. Whoever it is invited a new Multiple Profile who posted on the DESTINY thread.

So now I`m being forced to go By Approval Only.

This is getting old and CARE2 needs to step up to the plate and deal with this problem.

P.S. Members can still invite but I will have to "check them out" first before I can approve them for membership.

 [ send green star]
Donna February 21, 2005 11:59 AM

It's still set at "Invitation Only".

In The General Settings under Member Growth Management it should be set as:

 Are invitations required?

No. Invitations are NOT required to join group.

If no, people can apply for membership. How are these applications reviewed/approved?
Host will review and approve applicants.

Who can invite people to join the group?
 Members + Hosts

How are invitees (who have accepted invitations) reviewed/approved?

Host reviews and approves invitees who have accepted invitations.

Then under Member Management  you have to go to "Request Admission" Settings.

The  Criteria for Membership: is just a little blurb like the group description.

Then you need to decide if you want an admission question or not. Without one I believe it just has a button that registers who requested to join.

Pending requests show up at the announcement/main group page to wait for approval.

Hopefully February 21, 2005 3:32 PM

the settings are correct now but I won`t know until someone invites some friends...I`ve already invited all mine before this mess started....   [ send green star]
OKAY February 22, 2005 5:21 AM

It seems to be working now. All systems go...  [ send green star]
Hi, Donna, hi everyone February 23, 2005 7:47 PM

for inviting me to join your group, Donna.  I'm but I do believe that all North American prison systems need dramatic and immediate overhauling, as they are neither beneficial to the inmates, nor do they benefit overall society in any meaningful, positive ways.

First of all, the prisons are overcrowded - I'd be willing to bet that most of the inmates are incarcerated for 'petty' crimes (possession of 1/8 oz. of pot, for example), when their sentence would be better served in the community, performing some kind of necessary service.

Secondly, although they did forfeit their rights to such things as basic freedom, and etc., inmates are still human beings, and therefore, deserving of the opportunity to have genuine therapy/counseling, so that they can move forward in their lives.  This would not only help them to become better people, it would also benefit society as a whole, because they're contributing to the common good.

OOOPS! February 23, 2005 9:12 PM

Sorry, Donna - I should have put that first post in a different thread. Sorry.

I support you in your decision to run this as a closed group, Donna. In light of all that's been going on, I don't see that you had any other choice. *hearsmile*

Wolfsinger February 24, 2005 4:21 AM

Personally I think it was a dark day on CARE2 when this group and Noels group, Citizens Against The Death Penalty, were forced to go to Closed Groups.

CARE2 has an infestation of meanspirited Demons that are doing damage to what was a good website concept.

 [ send green star]
I understand, Donna, February 24, 2005 6:52 AM

and I have to agree.  It's neither fair, nor right, that the negative and mean-spirited actions of a few can ruin things for so many.

This group is going to be just fine, Donna. You're doing a wonderful, humanitarian thing, here, and I think that deserves to be recognized. Right, everyone?

Donna and Noel February 24, 2005 6:59 AM

I second everyones satement that you are doing a good job ! I htik you are dealing with a bad situation the best way possible give n your limited options. I am sorry this has happend to your group, but I think things will get better .... soon.   [ send green star]
That means a lot to me February 24, 2005 3:58 PM

Wolfsinger & Falcon, that you took the time to tell me you thought I was doing a good job.

 [ send green star]
Well, Donna February 24, 2005 4:03 PM

Contrary to what some may say or think of me (long story, doesn't need to be discussed), I'm pretty picky about what groups I join.

I think you have a wonderful thing going, here, and I'm glad that you're doing what you can to keep this group going, even though the measure you've had to take was one you didn't want to take.

It's very important, Donna, to do what's necessary in order to maintain something as meaningful as this group. What you're doing shows both courage and compassion for those without many friends, and for that, I sincerely applaud you.

For those without a voice to have something like this, is truly a good thing, Donna. Don't forget that.

Group Open Again! April 11, 2005 9:20 AM

We`ll see how it goes...  [ send green star]
Invitation to closed group?? May 13, 2005 10:33 PM

Hi again, Donna!

Just a little while ago I replied to your email. I have to tell you I'm sooo thankful to know about this group. I believe I can contribute some things & I'm positive I can learn, understand & keep 'the rules'!!! I hope you'll accept my application. Thanks for all you do!! And more for all you intend to do!! We all need to benefit from this site to see what can be done about the craziness in U.S. prisons, some states more explicitly.

Linda B.

p.s. One thing I do have to say right now is: pffffffffft!! to the warden for his promotion but it seems it's pretty typical in Florida. (I speak from experience!)

Hi Donna May 14, 2005 6:36 AM

Harasssment seems to be going on in many of the open groups. I agree with what you had to do, I also agree that C2C needs to get serious and start holding up their end and dealing with the problem.

I know there are abusers who still abuse the system and they are getting away with it.

I have a good idea where all of this is coming from, but I will not post it in a public format.

Sorry I didn't catch the culprit, but I don't read anything on the Destiny thread. I sort of stay away from that thread, though maybe I should pop in now and again to see what's going on. That is part of being a co-host. I have failed in my position...

Open Group Now May 14, 2005 9:45 AM

Its been open for awhile now.....with no problems. So hopefully.....

Linda, welcome aboard. I know you are going to be a valuable asset to our group.

Stephen, Net message me about your hunch.
 [ send green star]
Thank you!! May 14, 2005 6:39 PM

Donna, thank you for including me in the group!! It means so much to me it would be very hard to put into words.

Everyone!! Hello! I hope to contribute alot to the group as well as gain a better grip on my own life. I'm a pretty open minded person but my values are not lessened by that. I believe everyone deserves a second chance at the life we have on this earth. I know of no one who has not committed some type of wrong doing at one time or another during their lives. Oh, yes, even the ones who are not willing to admit they've made mistakes but that subject will be left for a later date!! I'm happy to be here & hope to make new & valuable (each of us is valuable) friends! Thanks again, Donna! Linda

I had no idea,,,,,,,,,,, August 29, 2007 4:58 PM

sorry some closed minded, hateful people are harrassing the group. I just joined within the last few dayz and already I feel a closed grp is a good idea!  [ send green star]
 September 30, 2007 10:36 AM

There have been a number of complaints in different groups by malcontent Care2 members. Some of them are posers, which mean their PID's aren't real, and they only join certain groups briefly to disrupt otherwise congenial conversations, and try to help out with other issues regarding inmates.

By invitation only is a good idea for now. But I know there will be fake ID's that will join Care2 just to cause problems. There are nasty people everywhere these days.

The group is open now. This is just an old thread.

Welcome to the group!

 [ send green star]
Hi Tim February 17, 2008 1:40 PM

Sorry about the confusion. Yes it is an older thread as Sherrie said. I guess I left it here if we ever needed to close the group again. Hopefully that won't happen.

Closing the group just means the door is closed to prying eyes trying to cause trouble but everything goes on as usual in privacy.

Glad you joined us and we look forward to your input.

Closed group announcemet March 10, 2008 8:34 AM

I'm a bit confused, are we or are we not a closed group. If we are I am not surprised as even here in the 'glorious' UK where we are all supposed to be wooly brained liberals I was recently told that I deserve a death sentence as I have a penpal on a US prison death row and I deserved the same sentebce as he received. Yes there are some seriously dangerous crazies out here, not necessarily under lock and key , how do we change these lunatics minds (by the way my worst offence was when my husband parked my bike on a double yellow & I'd paid the fine by return of post).
