The Earth's largest land mammals, elephants are awe-inspiring creatures.
But throughout Asia and Africa, elephants are disappearing at alarming rates. In large parts of their historic range, including West Asia, Java, and most of China, they are already extinct.
In Central Africa, the threat of extinction is dire and growing. WCS staff has seen the decline firsthand in Zakouma, Chad, where only 600 elephants now remain. Twenty years ago, 40,000 roamed the area.
The United States has been a leader in supporting elephant conservation and can help save these magnificent creatures, but only if Congress expands its support for international conservation programs. Please, send a letter to your members of Congress today!
