Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City. The SEIS updates and expands the 1994 final environmental impact statement (FEI for bird damage management. Bird collisions with aircraft, or bird strikes, kill birds, damage aircraft and pose substantial risks to human safety. The SEIS discusses the bird strike hazard at JFK, reviews six alternatives for reducing bird strikes and evaluates the environmental consequences of each alternative. The alternatives analyzed include proposals to conduct bird hazard management activities on- and off-airport, including off-airport management of several species within a 5-mile radius of the airport. It discusses management of risks from resident Canada geese within a 7-mile radius. This notice was published in the Jan. 14 Federal Register.
