Tell AZA - Don't Let San Antonio Zoo Keep Elephant Lucky Alone
The San Antonio Zoo recently made the cruel decision to keep a female elephant named Lucky alone, following the death last month of another elephant, Queenie.
Now, the zoo is asking the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) - a trade industry organization - for a variance that would allow the zoo to maintain a solitary female elephant. Female elephants are profoundly social and naturally live in large, extended family groups. If approved, the variance would bypass the AZA's requirement that elephants in zoos are kept in groups of three. Please click here to read more, and see what you can do to help Lucky!
Thanks Betty, petition signed, emails will be sent today.
PETITION SIGNED,EMAILS WILL BE SENT,YHANK YOU
Letter just sent to Mr. Maddy re Lucky. (I didn't see a petition!) Thx for posting. Don't want Lucky living out her days all alone.
Dianne, on the IDA page you'll find "sign onto this petition" just below the contact information.
Thx so much Betty. I signed it, and forwarded it to lots of contacts. We went through this a number of year ago with an elephant at a Vancouver "zoo" and finally the elephant was trucked down to a nice sanctuary in the USA. Quite a trip for her!!! But at least she got to live out her life in much nicer conditions. We want Lucky to end up like this Right?
Signed and shared, and agree with Dianne, so hope Lucky is moved to live with other elephants soon, if you hear of any outcomes would you let us know Betty? thanks xwendy k
I happily signed the petition & would normally share it on Facebook but I am having problems on there right now so I can't & wish I knew how to share it on here but not being too computer savvy I don't know how too?!!! I also left a comment!!! Thanks for sharing & having this Betty!!! Thanks to all who are trying to help Lucky have a happier better life which she so deserves?!!! Elephants are smart beautiful loyal family oriented animals & Lucky definitely doesn't deserve to be alone but to have a family of her own & to be happy as a captive elephant can be!!! I hope she finds a much deserved new home?!!! Have a great nice fun & a very relaxing peaceful rest of your weekend & now almost week Everybody?!!! Peace, Purrs, & Tail Wags!!!
Petition signed, emails sent. Thank you very much, Betty!
