From the Chicago Tribune:

A Lakeview man who teaches grade school punched his dog to death because it refused to get into a bathtub after it “ate every piece of paper” in the house and soiled itself, police said.

Derek Fierro, 25, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, police said. He is a teacher at Eugene Field Elementary School in the 7000 block of North Ashland Avenue, according to police and Chicago Public Schools records.

Fierro, who lives in the 500 block of West Roscoe Street, called 911 about 3 a.m. and asked police to meet him at Roscoe and North Broadway, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

When officers arrived, he told them the dog was in trunk of his car and gave police the keys, Kubiak said. Officers checked it and found the male yellow dog. Fierro was crying when police arrived and said he was sorry about killing his dog, Kubiak said.

Fierro adopted the dog from the Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation last October, according to Lisa Klotnia, the foundation's founder. The dog -- a yellow lab chow mix -- was several months old when adopted and had been named Doc because he was part of a litter of seven puppies. The dog was renamed "Queso" according to the foundation's records.

"We reviewed his application, he came to meet Doc and we even did a home visit with him," Klotnia said.  "He seemed like a nice and normal guy.

"We try to be part of the dog's life," she said through tears. "If we're ever needed, we let people know were here. That's why it's so devastating. We would have gladly taken this dog back if he was having any problems."

She described Doc as a "real mutt," part Labrador retriever, chow and maybe Alaskan huskie, Klotnia said. "Our hope is to give them a new home and we failed. He was a wonderful little pup."

She said the foundation is reaching out to police to retrieve the dog's remains and have them cremated.

CPS Inspector General James Sullivan said his office will investigate the incident, which could lead to disciplinary action against the teacher. Sullivan said his office always investigates cases where a district employee is arrested and charged with a “serious crime.”

Thanks Aletta -

Though a fierce animal welfare warrior on all fronts, the death of this dog at the hands of an elementary school teacher is especially devastating to me. Educators should be avatars of compassion. This so-called "teacher" gives men and women striving to raise the consciousness and compassionate awareness of their students worse than a bad name. Please sign the petition below and share far and wide. This sociopath not only should be permanently removed from the classroom, but should be banned from owning any animals for the duration of his life. I posted the Chicago Tribune story below for additional details. With a heavy heart, M.

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! Junior, the victim of a provoked bite incident, will be put to death on Wednesday unless the city of Fremont intervenes. Please lend your voice to this petition and help save the life of another innocent dog.

Junior's owner's relinquished him to Tri-City Shelter/Animal Control in Fremont, CA (Northern California).

After relinquishing Junior to AC, the owner contacted "A Passion for Paws Akita Rescue" and "Akita Angels" in California asking for help. We immediately contacted them and are working non-stop to save Junior's life.  Bottom line: Rescue groups have obtained junior legal representation so they have recourse to intervene & stop his death on August 15.

The owner has the sole and full legal right to request return of her dog and as of 8pm this evening, has not filed that form wtih the Tri-City Animal Control in Fremont.

UPDATE: JUNIOR HAS OBTAINED LEGAL COUNSEL...

Please email:  angels@akitaangels.org IF YOU CAN HELP. We all are working tirelessly to save him.

Subject: Humane solutions, Romania

 President, Minister, Sir, Madam:
Three Million stray dogs in Romanian dogs face death as a form of population control while it is more humane, and economically logical, to spay and neuter the animals.

One unspayed female dog, her mate and their offspring can produce up to 67,000 dogs in only 6 years.

The price to spay one female dog certianly outweighs the price to hired a dog-catcher to catch 67,000, and euthanize them.

We ask Romania to find humane and economically sound solutions and stop the senseless mass killing of dogs.

Referral:   THE EUROPEAN AGREEMENT FOR THE PROTECTION OF PETS LAW 60/2004,
THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF ANIMAL RIGHTS -PARIS,UNESCO 1978, signed by ROMANIA
THE EUROPEAN ACTION PLAN FOR THE ANIMALWELFARE
THE TREATY OF LISBON FROM DECEMBER

 Sincerely:

Adapt the title :

Dear Mr. President,
Dear Madam, dear Sir,

I am extremely distressed about the torture and consumption of animal companions in South Korea.

Even though the government has established an Animal Protection Law, dogs are still electrocuted, hanged, and beaten to death by farmers and slaughters.
Also, dogs and cats are still being tortured and boiled alive for so-called elixirs, which have no medicinal properties except in the minds of gullible customers.

Until South Korea ends this appalling suffering, the country’s reputation in the international community will continue to suffer.
Its citizens will face shame and embarrassment. And South Korea will continue to be regarded as “third world,” despite its glittering modernization and attempts at globalized thinking.

1. I urge the South Korean Government to strengthen the South Korean Animal Protection Law to prevent animal cruelty and to introduce basic animal-protection regulations. It must also provide penalties for violations and ensure that mistreated animals can be legally seized from abusers and given immediate refuge.

2. I request that the South Korean Government create an enforceable law to ban the torture, killing, sale, and consumption of dogs and cats.

There will be worldwide attempts to boycott “PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics" unless the abuse of cats and dogs has finally come to an end.

Sincerely,

From Anneke -

Julian is adopted from Poland; he looked like 1,5 years old but after measuring bone-density and wrist, back in the Netherlands, he indeed was 4 years of age; could not speak Polish, nor walk, you name it...But by repeating the same over and over, he developed himself quite well in every aspect. Now, he's 24 years of age and becomes more difficult to approach; he is able to shut himself off completely if he doesn't like the conversation/advice or simple question . He is financially in serious debts, which I will pay in full, under the condition that, in his case (being addicted to ordering luxurious stuff through the Internet), I can manage his finances. The Judge ordered him unfit to make decisions for himself; although, according to College tests, his IQ is around 100....He was fired again, recently, and travels all across our country now, every day, visiting luxury stores,  by means of a Public Transport Cart, with automatic upload from his banking account..It's 50,- euro's every week now, so again I have to make arrangements in order to stop him.  It's a constant fight, and he forgets a lot (for his own 'benefit' ...)!
Have a pleasant weekend Valerie, enjoy the sun; hugs Anneke ( you must have been a lovely baby! Lucky parents!)

Cari senatori,

Cordiali saluti,

Dear Senators,

The Senate is debating amendments to art. 14 relating to animal testing.

Like most Italians, I am particularly concerned about the plight of animals in laboratories. That is why I ask you to vote in favor of banning dog breeds, cats and primates for vivisection.

Today I would like you to think about the case "Green Hill" that has affected many people in Italy and outside the country. Citizens showed they were concerned about signing petitions, demonstrating, in writing to you ... etc.

Like me, you probably noticed an awareness and a growing opposition to the use of animals for scientific research, because these animals are sentient beings, and they can not be treated as material laboratories.

Without your vote, Green Hill farming could resume its business with new animals. We do not want history to repeat itself. We do not want other Green Hill. All these farms have to close the shame.

So please do not disappoint all those people who rely on you, and that require you to save these animals. Protect the pain they are forced to endure in laboratories and give priority to requests of the people and not the economic interests linked to animal testing. This would be an important sign of respect for democracy.

Thank you for your attention,

Now vivisection can be replaced by more reliable means. This scientist explains it perfectly:

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA:

- There’s no way they can possibly “clean up their act” because they have become very cruel and disturbed individuals. I know you wouldn’t want to be associated with hurting animals or a university mired in controversy. In order for you to not be compliant in these heinous experiments, you MUST stop giving money to UF until they ban primate testing.http://emptyallcages.com/category/university-of-florida-2/

- UF CHOOSES primate torture, most times using 2 and 3 year old primate toddlers, when there are thousands of non-animal alternatives available to teach and use right now.http://emptyallcages.com/non-animal-alternatives/

- UF broke the law, was sued and lost to us when they refused to submit their veterinarian records for the primates they have hurt. http://www.negotiationisover.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/judge-lotts-order-jan-5-2012.pdf

-Their worst fears were realized- we have posted them for you to verify for yourself.http://emptyallcages.com/most-wanted/university-of-florida/

- UF refuses to ban primate testing while the rest of the world is doing so in all universities. Because of this, their own alumni dues and support have begun to dwindle.http://emptyallcages.com/truth-gallery/vivisection/

- UF is also single handedly “uneducating” the educated. They have a campus slaughterhouse where students can learn butchering. Is that horror what you thought Disney would be donating money to? http://cdn3.demotix.com/news/599893/tommy-estevez-fun-loving-butcher#slide-1

THE NEW YORK TIMES SUPPORTS PRIMATE TORTURE!**

PLEASE DO A QUICK COPY/PASTE FOR THE MONKEYS! First we will inform this enormous corporation and its affiliates about what their exuberant donations to the University of Florida buys- primate torture and archaic frankenscience. Then, if they don’t formally announce a delay on their donations, we will hold them accountable by letting the world know that they refuse to stop funding UF primate torture. Tell The New York Times( NY Times, Boston Globe, About.co

m) NO MORE DONATIONS TO UF until primate testing is banned!!

It has come to my attention that the University of Florida Foundation donors are responsible for providing $3.2 BILLION in support of UF and as we know they spend it on primate torture. Unbelievably, these donors include corporations who state they act to benefit society; Walt Disney, AT&T, Ford Motor Company, Office Depot, Walgreens, Bank of America and more. Also included is $10M category donor Kellogg who claims to care for the world’s children, and Anheuser-Busch most recently famous for formally denouncing the horrible and cruel event SnapperFest, saying they love and respect all animals. These giant corporations are hemorrhaging money into UF’s Death Camp and they need to be held accountable for what their money funds.

Primates are imprisoned in the University of Florida labs, poisoned, sickened, and killed when alternatives are available. Among 1000s of other animals, more than 200 are forced to endure painful experiments without anesthesia. UF has lost a lawsuit to animal rights activists and the vet records of agony and torture are now being made public.

*TIP* Most can see the subject and 1st line of an email. Try using something to do with their business instead of animals for these two like “Mitt Romney News Tip” (smirk!).

Dear New York Times and Affiliates,

The bottom line is that you contribute millions of dollars to the University of Florida and they torture primates in archaic, fraudulent “science” experiments when kids, employees and the community could benefit instead from these funds. You must formally tell UF that you won’t be donating another dollar until the ban primate testing- or you will be exposed to the public for supporting the agony and death of baby primates when non-animal alternatives are available. There is NOTHING you can claim to do for children, families or society that makes this OK. I await a response from you that includes a copy of your letter to UF denying any further funding until they ban primate testing. Do you think the employees and shareholders throughout the New York Times Company (NY Times, Boston Globe, About.com) are aware that you CHOOSE to support primate experiments instead of giving those millions back to your employees and shareholders?

"NIO Florida is in receipt of the public registries of alumni who donate substantial sums of money to UF through the Florida Fund, a 501(c)(3) corporation. It appears that we will need to sue to gain access to their "confidential" registries. Ann Parkes, founder of NIO UK, will be orchestrating our official weekly outreach actions focusing on these donors".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LETTER:

Dear Alumni and Friends,

I am in receipt of public registries which verify that you are a substantial donor to the University of Florida. While I commend your generosity and the noble intent to further higher education, perhaps you are unaware that your money is funding cruel, frivolous and barbaric experiments on primates and other animals.

For 14 months, UF tried to keep their monkey experiments hidden from the public. In December of 2011, activists finally won their lawsuit – the Eighth District Alachua Circuit Court ordered them to release their records to the community.
The pictures of which we are in receipt document stunning cruelty. They may be viewed HERE.

http://www.negotiationisover.net/2012/07/05/exclusive-horrific-pictures-from-inside-ufs-monkey-labs/

The veterinary records which explain the images confirm that monkeys are forced to live in excruciating pain in stark violation of animal welfare law.** Others are routinely force-fed poisons, toxic dirt, subjected to horrific mutilations and almost all are made into drug addicts.

Every monkey without exception lives in constant deprivation, trauma, misery and fear.

As an influential member of the UF community, I am urging you to withhold any further support until all primate experimentation ceases and the monkeys are released.

These experiments are unconscionable and unscientific, but highly lucrative. They net almost $500 million dollars annually in taxpayer-funded federal grants. Therefore, as a donor of distinction to UF, you are in a unique position to demand a compassionate and ethical research policy to guide this institution into the future.

Please visit www.universityofflorida.us for further information and become an objector of conscience.

Sincerely,

***Official complaints with the USDA are forthcoming.

As for me - Well the 10 pounds of chicken are cooked, the 3 pounds of bacon, raisin bread made and sliced, dishes washed and put away, 3rd load of laundry in the machine, garden watered and plants bug hunted all after dog walked and a few exercises - and it is 10 AM - think I am tired - hope all are having a great day/afternoon/evening/night..... whatever time it is!  Still have to make the bed though.  So now you know why I haven't been around a lot - am so behind with everything due to outside work.   But I keep trying - finally getting to my messages.
