LOL  Thanks for the warm welcome!

As for "cooking for one"  I have discovered 'Glad bowls"  I just made spaghetti today.  I ate it for lunch and then put four or five  servings of sauce in the freezer for 'next time'   Did the same on Wednesday with vegetable soup.  That practice is really handy for days when my knees are aching and I don't feel like doing much of anything.

(I damaged my knees several years ago and must use crutches. There's a lot of pain associated with it and some days I just don't feel like standing to cook--That when those individual frozen things come in handy!!)

Welcome to the group, Vondi!  By all means, grab some recipes for your daughter-in-law!

[Just a note; if there is an interest by either you or others here, I can create a "Cooking for One" (or some such thing) topic and start adding recipes that I find or convert...]

Hello, All.  My name is Vondi and I just found you!  I've given up cooking by and large, since I live alone.  But my daugther-in-law is an inveterate new recipe trier! ( so I'll be copying some for her, if that's OK.)    And I still like to read them

I think I'll enjoy visiting here!

cooking in a motel
Hi , Holly here, Here in the extended stay motel in New Hampshire, I have two electric cook top and a microwave and a frig and sink. Here I have been cooking artichokes, asparagus, sweet potatoes, regular (5 kinds of) potatoes, onions and garlic, fresh fish. Old fashioned oatmeal. Bagels. Have had some good avacadoes, lettices, winter squashes, types of tomatoes, mny varieties of fresh apples, fresh dates(excellent), sweet potatoes and yams and lots of almonds. Also, american cucumbers versus dutch long plastic covered cucumbers.Have checked out American pasta and found fine angelhair pasta I have missed.Fresh blueberries started us off an dthe fresh strawberries have also been a joy. Also scallops and fresh fish and shrimp. Much more and so much more choice. I have discovered how to cook things like artichokes in a frying pan with cover since I have no deep sauce pans. I can see the US is eating quite differently than 28 years ago or 17 years ago. I also see thta all the doughnuts and sweets, pies, cookies and cup cakes are what one must walk through to get into and get out of the grocery store here. I love to bake and there are so many things I have not eaten for so many years-- have tried many new kinds of ice cream. Choice is probably one of the great aspects of shopping in America. But when one talks about what is healthy, here there is no information about which olive oil one should use for salads (extra virgin) and which should be used for (high temperature) frying, sauting, etc. The traditional or classic but NOT the extra virgin. In Europe the insight is that extra virgin can creat chemical structures which are not healthy if fried in. Would be interested in any insights on this from the Us, australia or anywhere else in the world. Holly T

I've just arrived which may revive someone

Golly Sharky, what would you like. What could you use. I am an American who hs been living for a long time in the Netherlands. That means I can give you American as in Navajo taco's or all sorts of wonderful muffins or I can give you dutch cookies or traditions or soem russian one. Really good brownies, or Indonesian food or take off on.... give me a hit .

I just got a recipe which involves artichoke hearts, parmazan cheese, garlic and mayo. It is baked in the oven for 20 minutes and is a great dip/spread.
