The 'freedom' in us January 17, 2005 7:45 AM

In the truly integrated personality, we have the victory of the Spirit over nature, of freedom over necessity.

If a human being were but a simple creature of instinct, if her/his desires and decisions were only the resultant of forces of heredity and environment, then moral judgements are irrelevant. We do not condemn the mountain lion for its ferocity or praise the lamb for its meekness.

But a human possesses freedom. She/he can choose between this and that. There are however, many impediments to this freedom of choice. She/he is a complex multi-dimensional being, including within her different elements of matter, consciousness, intelligence and the Divine spark. She is free when she acts from the highest level and uses the other elements for the realisation of her purpose. When she subdues the senses and keep them under control, the flame of Spirit burns bright and clear 'like a lamp in a windless place.' The light of Consciousness stands in its own nature. She is a free participant of the world. It is in her inner life that she confronts primary reality, the deeps of being. Neither nature, nor society can invade her inner being, without permission. In freedom, God wishes consent, but never compels.

A free participant of the world January 17, 2005 10:46 AM

Rajan, I truly love that line and the visualizations it brought to me when I first read it. How wonderful it would be if we could begin our lives being taught that we are indeed free participants of the world! There are so many who only see poverty, illness, abuse and negativity and do not feel they have any freedom. They do not feel they are even partiipants in their own lives much less in the world. Their lives happen to them, around them.

As a learner and a lightworker, I feel very strongly that it is my responsibility to help as many as possible see that they are free participants. This is done by example, talking, praying, teaching...many different ways. I believe that it is exactly the concept of free participation that gives each of us the personal power to raise our vibrations thereby being healthier physically, mentally, emotionally which in turn frees us up to achieve higher levels of spirituality-of love.

Thank you for giving words to a concept I could not express!
Love and Blessings!

Hi Rosie and Rajan, January 17, 2005 9:46 PM

Freedom to be. It's amazing that it's such a basic need, it's right up there with food and shelter. The freedom to be able to make choices...and not just to make them but, to actually do them. It's difficult for some to conceive...even as a child you begin with your parents making your choices for you. Although some children seem to rule the household.  Then depending upon gender and custom, you marry and then the battle for freedom might really take place depending on the 'spark'   or should I say 'sparks'? lol Maybe I'm straying from the topic.

By Divine Spark do you mean spirit/soul, or Holy Spirit, Rajan? The words from my learnings are a bit different but it all means the same don't you think? So, are you saying that the victory of Spirit over human nature allows us to enter the deeps of being which is our subconscious? We possess the freedom to be 'fierce' but with the help of the spirit we can calm that human nature and become passive and enlightened...or divine?  Tell me, can one who is fierce be divine? What part does evil play? Is it alright to be fierce without ruining the spiritual development?

Dear Rosie and Melissa January 19, 2005 7:48 AM

Thank you for your posts, and have given us substance to work upon.

By our meaningful discussion, we are moving into the Spiritual element of Destiny. Destiny being a very broad subject of multi-element character, we would add to answer Melissa's queries,

Divine Spark would be God's Hand in individuals, such as you. Divine here, would mean God's Working in you. The Spirit is a fragment of the Divine Mind, the recipient of the Divine idea. In the World of manifestation, the ground of created Being is God's idea of It, which, because It is Divine, is more real than the created Being itself. The Spirit draws Its concept of perfection from the Divine Creator. Its perfection is derived from the Vision of the Divine Mind.

Victory of the Spirit over basic human nature is the progressive rising to higher and higher levels of Consciousness by practice of Virtues, fulfilling His purpose, Understanding His real nature, I would say. Maybe, it can be expressed in other terms as well.

Ferocity does not seem to be part of Divine. One can expect to confront a ferocious animal, in a forest. Ferocity is a character of an animal preying on other creatures.

Evil is non-Being, by human standards. Evil opposes all virtues. Evil is not Spirit, and evil cannot ever be a form or manifestation of Divine, I think.

I do not think one could be fierce in Spiritual development. Fierceness opposes calmness, peace, humilty. Fierceness viels 'subtle' Truth.

Our freedom - Spiritual element January 19, 2005 8:10 AM

Human Intellect aims at attainment of Truth, but most often succeeds only in making guesses about It. There must be a power in Humans which sees Truth unvieled.

A deeper Principle of Consciousness must emerge if the fundamental intention of nature, which has led to the development of matter, life, mind, and intellectual Consciousness is to be accomplished.

Matter, life, mind, intelligence are different forms of existence with their specific characteristics and modes of action, each acting on the other, but not derived from each other. Life is not a mechanical resultant of material forces. There is an element of the incalculable. Human mind cannot be produced from anything, but a Higher Mind.

I agree Rajan... January 22, 2005 10:38 AM

that fierceness is not a part of the Divine Spirit and usually does not succeed in spiritual development or enlightenment.

The combative nature only succeeds in alienating reason. But how does one make known the true intentions of the master plan if one is in agreement at all times? Human nature becomes absorbed in the material and physical aspects of life to such a degree at times that it overlooks the quiet nature and is only made aware by a loud noise.

What is the best way to attain the state of virtue and higher minded principles? Simple witness? Do as I do and not as I say if you won't listen to reason? I love that concept...many enlightened souls have given their lives for it. That I am saddened by yet honored for.

Freedom January 23, 2005 2:16 PM

Dear Rajan, Melissa and Rosie.

What a wonderful thread. Thank you for your insights and concepts....

I feel each one of us has that deep inner urge to manifest the freedom that is within all of us. It is part of the spiritual process on which we are all journeying.

What is freedom? To me it is becoming more and more detached from the swings and roundabouts of the worldly reality. Letting go of material concepts and moving beyond the personal victim response that "it/they did it to me" to the concept of "I am here to overcome all that life presents for me to learn from" to the point of letting life be as it is.

Freedom is also to be the truth of who we in reality already are, but have forgotten/denied/suppressed for eons.

Freedom to be all of this demands responsibility which means the ability to respond....or how we respond or dont respond to a given circumstance....

Freedom is a big learning curve but one which is well worth stepping through......

The journey/process continues.

Love and blessings

Elizabeth

Freedom January 24, 2005 7:30 PM

My dearest friends,
I also must agree that this thread was a most wonderfully powerful and uplifting one. I am so honored to know you people!

I have so many more thoughts on this topic I could probably write a book! However, I just want to say that it is my belief that freedom is always inside us and it is ever present as we go about living our lives and making choices and decisions. I also believe that God does indeed sometimes 'smack us up the side of our heads' trying to get us to see this freedom that dwells within us. The problem is that our egos get in the way. Our egos want us to know confusion, and while this confusion can be a catalyst for growth, it can also go the other way.  I further feel most people make it all too hard. We worry too much about money, cars, jobs, getting to the top, big houses, etc. These are things of the ego. The other side of this is simply having faith. Faith, like energy, light, love and other good things, is born of the loving side of our ego. The side that isn't afraid to say "I trust".  And the more faith we have, the more love and light and energy we manifest.

Blessings of love and light to all!
