Tsarnaev Influenced by Conspiracy Theories
Extremist publications found in the apartment of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev suggest he was deeply involved in conspiracy theories that went beyond radical Islam, complicating a case that authorities have described as homegrown terrorism.
Tsarnaev discovered some of the radical publications while working as a caregiver for a 67-year-old man who passed them on, along with his beliefs, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Through his friendship with Donald Larking, who was disabled after being shot 40 years earlier during a robbery, Tsarnaev delved into supremacist newspapers and journals that doubted the Holocaust, and described the 9/11 attacks and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing as plots by the U.S. and Israeli governments.
