ASK THE EUROPEAN UNION TO STOP OVERFISHING AND WASTE
3 years ago

Maria Damanakis is the commissioner responsable for this area and I allready sent her a letter. I received an answer saying that the fishing policies are being reviewed. Still the more pressure the merrier...so write to her and say the same: that quotas are a waste incentive, that many tons of fish are left to rot in the beach sand or thrown dead back to the sea and that the nets are coming more empty everytime because of execssive fishing and at this rhythm we will have no more fish in a decade or less and all the ecological balance will be irreversibly changed causing many species to starve maybe even our own... You can say exactly what I sad...here is a sample letter:

Your Excellency:

The European Union so far has had a disastrous fishing policy...so terrible that it is not just a "policy" it is an environmental crime! And what is more amazing is the fact that it is legal...when it should really be a crime to throw dead fish back to the sea, tons left to rot in the beach sand, quotas that are established according to the country's political importance rather than according to the environment or amount of sea shore that country has... The amount of plastic used in the so called civilized world is also a disaster for the marine species; both in the water as outside of it like the birds, and yet nothing is ever made to stop this! Supremarkets give away hundreds, millions of plastic bags a day! I was a volunteer for the homeless and the bags , hundreds of them a day, in which they placed the sandwiches to distribute! and it is a N.G.O. for a good cause! but aparently even N.G.O.s should be educated in these matters...and not only them but students , entreprises etc. So much to do...so much...and yet so far everything remains the same. I sure hope you can make a difference and change this. Thank you for your time,

sincerely: (sign/country)
