WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) - An 18-year-old Minnesota man will be in court today on animal abuse charges. 18-year-old Nong Vang told Wisconsin Rapids officers it was his puppy and he could do with it whatever he wanted. Prosecutors say he cut off a puppy's ears with a razor blade, which led to it’s death.
The alleged mutilation of the 4-to-5 month old puppy happened in June of 2009 when Vang was 15.
Vang is expected to enter a plea in Wood County court at 2:00 p.m TODAY (11-14-2012). He could get up to 3-1/2 years in prison if convicted. Vang is currently free on a $2,000 cash bond.
Cropping dog ears is common for some breeds and is done by trained professionals. In some cases, dog ears are cropped for the purpose of illegal dog fighting, so the opposing dog has less to hang on to during a fight. Vang was charged with mistreatment of an animal causing death after investigators had a veterinarian examine the puppy.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) -
We have an update on the Wisconsin Rapids man accused of cutting off a puppy's ears with a razor.
Nong Vang appeared in Wood County Court on Wednesday, but he will have to wait to find out if there is enough evidence for a trial.
Wednesday's hearing was postponed until December because of procedural issues.
He was investigated by police for animal mistreatment when he was a juvenile.
When he turned 18, Vang was charged with felony mistreatment of animals.
Vang's next court date is set for December 13.

Absolutely disgusting every one of them.
I totally agree :o :o :0 :0 !!!! Just Horendous Dianne...I agree with You Monika!!!! Noted :0 :0 ..
All 3 of these stories makes me sick. What is wrong with these people! The cop should be disciplined. Severely! All South Koreans who carry out or condone this torture should be tortured in turn, just so they know how it feels. And as for the little %#&!*% who cut off his puppy's ears, his ears should be cut off too!
Hang all the abusers on the next tree !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Dianne - I know I must sound thick but I'd really like to post these to facebook but do not know how to share story as there does not seem to be a share button or link to story. Appreciate any help.
P.S. All three stories burn me up but first two ( perhaps all three ) should be the subject of petitions. These South Koreans are MONSTERS. I definitely want answers from the Police Dept - THIS CANNOT BE LEGAL - this officer has to go!! Do we know what city or town this was in?
Anyway you've got a good heart Dianne - keep doing what you're doing. Alex

A Wood County judge has set a $2,000 cash bond for a former Wisconsin Rapids teenager accused of cutting off a puppy's ears with a razor blade.
Nong F. Vang, 18, whose address is listed as St. Paul, Minn., made his initial appearance Monday in Wood County Circuit Court on the charge of mistreating an animal. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 3.5 years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, in June 2009, Vang told a Wood County humane officer investigating a report of animal abuse that he had used a razor blade to cut off the ears of a puppy. Vang said he could do what he wanted with his property.
The humane officer took the puppy to a veterinarian who told her the ears were removed without the use of anesthesia. The veterinarian also said dirt and debris were in the puppy's ear folds.
Case Updates
An 18-year-old Minnesota man charged with cutting off a puppy's ears with a razor blade is expected to enter a plea to the charge Wednesday in Wood County Circuit Court.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 9, 2009 a humane officer responded to a home on Oak Street in Wisconsin Rapids for the report of a mutilated four or five-month-old dog. The officer stated she was approached by Nong Vang, who was 15-years-old at the time, Vang told the officer it was his puppy and he could do with it whatever he wanted.
The veterinarian who examined the puppy recommended that Vang be charged with animal mistreatment.
Vang is charged with mistreatment of an animal causing death. He's free on a $2,000 cash bond.
The practice of clipping a dog's ears, known as cropping, is commonly done to certain breeds like Pit bulls, Doberman Pinschers, Schnauzers, Great Danes and Boxers for cosmetic reasons.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says dogs involved in dog fighting often have their ears clipped to prevent allowing another animal to grab onto them during a fight. It also makes it harder for another animal to read the dog's body language.
In Wisconsin, a charge of animal mistreatment carries a maximum sentence of three-and-half years in prison.
Over two million South Korean dogs are electrocuted, strangled, or beaten to death each year killed in the cruelest ways imaginable because of the insidious myth that the more an animal suffers, the more tender and tasty the meat and that so-called medicinal properties will be enhanced. A leading proponent of this madness is "Dr." Euishin Edmund Kim.
