Demand Maximum Punishment for Culprits of Dog Fighting Ring

Recently, eight individuals were arrested for participating in a dog fighting ring. The dogs who have been rescued are suffering both physical and psychological trauma as a result of being continually forced to fight. Demand that these criminals be punished to the fullest extent of the law for their crimes.

Urgent: Tell the House to Stop the Cruelty

It’s unconscionable. Last week authorities in Chester County, Pennsylvania uncovered another brutal dogfighting ring. The operators not only trained the dogs to kill each other and subjected them to steroids, torture, and constant abuse but the couple also exposed their five children to the gruesome operation. The operators had planned to turn the dogfighting operation into "a family business.”

This has to stop. Fortunately, the U.S. Senate has just passed a bipartisan bill that will help authorities better crack down on dogfighting S. 1947, the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act. The legislation has been referred to the House Agriculture Committee, and there are only a few days left before the end of the year to get it passed. If the bill doesn’t pass the House quickly, two years of legislative work will be wasted, and we will need to start all over again in January.

Please contact Congressman Frank Lucas, Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, and ask him to stop blocking the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act from being voted on by the House before the session adjourns this month.

The bill would close a loophole in the federal animal fighting law and crack down on people who attend dogfights and cockfights. The legislation would also penalize adults who expose children to this violence and blood-letting as the Chester County couple is suspected of doing. It has been endorsed by more than 300 sheriffs and police departments around the country, including the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association.
