Signed 7 petitions. These include the 9 listed above with exceptions:
No. 6. I am not sure if it was successful. Since the petition form reappeared after I clicked "sign petition".
No. 8. This appears to be a pledge to donate and not a petition. I refuse to split my donations into smaller and smaller fragments by continually donating to new organizations.
Signed all the ones that I hadn't already signed.
Simon, the sign up to Tiger Time (No 8) is to be added to their e-mail/supporter list, you don't have to donate (at least I was able to sign up a couple of months ago without donating - please excuse me if it's changed since then and you do have to donate now).
All signed.

Hello Michela, signed all petitions.I hope we can end this tiger trade.
Dear Michela,
I've just invited all my Care2 friends to join this group, so I hope at least some of them do. Thanks for telling me how to go about it.
Emma x
Dear Michela,
I have signed the petions and shared to some of my friends in my network.
Good Work!
Worku
I keep checking but I'm pretty sure all have been signed. SOmetimes I double check.
In response to the comment by Caroline B.: I have now signed up to Tiger Time (No 8).
I was not trying to say that it was necessary to donate in order to sign up but I was under the impression that that was the purpose of signing up. However, the situation with activism is not much better than that with donating: if I promise to get more more active with too many organizations, I end up not doing anything properly. For example, Care2 has turned into an end in itself and I am neglecting other forms of activism, such as going to protests and writing my own letters.
I am finally up to date

Glad I found my way back to this group. Thanks Michela.
The pictures are absolutely awesome. Glad to see Betty White is involved. Terribly sickened by what that 18-month-old tiger caught in a trap had to go through. I see how much the push is on to save these vanishing tiger populations from greed and senseless slaughter. SO SAD! MAKES ME MAD!
Just a note: I do wish that people starting a petition would make sure their spelling is correct. Although I know their heart is in what they are doing, it makes the petition less effective. A number of Care2 friends have told me they won't sign such petitions. For instance, there is one here from the "World Wildlife Fedration" - really? I know there are many people with English as a second language, but they really need to double check how they write it up.
Thanks for working so hard to save these beautiful animals.

I already signed, Michelle. Thank you.
This is extremely important: The tiger is a critically endangered species, thus it is intolerable that he continues being poached! No hunting for his skin or other body parts, whether for 'vogue' or Chinese 'medicine' (UGH!)! The strictest of penalties for that!
The conservation of this big cat and his habitat must be taken seriously at last! Tigers get even killed in reserves or zoos! If I may cite from the NG article (A Cry for the Tiger by Caroline Alexander)... In the former case, the problem is that 'tigers can range over a hundred miles' but 'many reserves exist as islands of fragile habitat in a vast sea of humanity'; meaning that the tiger often crosses the boundaries of a preserve, finding him/herself on an unprotected territory and running a risk of getting killed. If guards are lenient and inattentive, which sometimes happens, tigers die even within reserves before the eyes of those who are supposed to protect them! In the latter case, there is a picture with a legend that says, 'A zoo cage is no haven for a creature whose body parts are prized in the illegal trade,' mentioning a story of Sheila the tigress that used to be kept at the zoo in Jambi, Indonesia, but 'poachers had slaughtered the tiger during the night'! Unbelievable!
This also leads me to the point that big cats such as the tiger should not be held captive. There should be emphasis placed on the protection of this species in the wild.
Only if we do something about it can we save the tiger. His future lies in our hands.
Two petitions already signed plus the last one which I did just now. Thanks

Video: Tigers go crazy for recycled Christmas trees
London Zoo has come up with a novel way of recycling its Christmas trees: making them into toys for Tigers. The trees have proved the perfect "enrichment" toys for the zoo's pair of Sumatran Tigers, Lumpur and Reika. Different scents are used as part of the animals' regular play time, to stimulate their natural curiosity - so the fragrant firs were a real treat for the pair.
Big cat keeper said: "Lumpur, our male Sumatran Tiger, is known to be playful and will immediately investigate something new in his environment. The size, shape and smells on the tree attract him, as it is his natural instinct to follow his nose. Lumpur in particular cannot leave the Christmas tree alone!"

The Endangered Sumatran Tigers:
Location: Live only on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia;
Habitat: live in the Rainforest;
Number: are on the brink of EXTINCTION: There are about 300 Sumatran Tigers remaining in the wild; Their number is constantly decreasing as people continue to kill them for their skin and bones, and to destroy their Habitat.
Size: Are about half the mass of a Bengal or Siberian Tiger, with adult males weighing 250 pounds and females 180 pounds; Grow to a length of about eight feet, including the tail;
Feed on sambar (a species of deer), wild pigs, and smaller prey.

Care2 News: Endangered Tigers to Get $33 Million
Critically endangered Sumatran Tigers will have a fund of $33 million set up for a project to attempt doubling their population by 2022.
The Sumatran Tiger, the smallest of the 5 remaining Tiger Subspecies in the world, is also the most threatened. Categorized as critically endangered, it is just a step away from being extinct in the wild.
Sumatran Tiger
The Sumatran Tiger is found exclusively on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the last stronghold for Tigers in Indonesia. Accelerating Deforestation and rampant Poaching across the Sumatran tiger's range mean that unless authorities enforce the law, this Subspecies will soon follow the fate of its extinct Javan and Balinese relatives.
Sumatran Tiger population Falling numbers:
-Early 20th century: Dutch colonists report that Tigers were so numerous and bold that they would enter the planters' estate house compounds;
-1978 estimate: 1,000 Sumatran Tigers;
-Today the wild Sumatran Tiger population is estimated at around 300 individuals!!!
Over half the population is found in the Kerinci Seblat - Bukit Barisan Selatan landscape, which stretches from Tesso Nilo in Riau to Bukit Tigapuluh, and then from Kerinci Seblat to Bukit Barisan Selatan.

Photos: Tigers in Crisis
In just over 100 years, we have lost 97 % of the world's Wild Tigers. Hundreds of thousands of Tigers once roamed the lands of Asia, but today, their numbers have fallen to just 3,200.

Pictured above is Seatao, one of the male tigers living at John Varty's Tiger Canyons. Located in South Africa, Tiger Canyons is an unlikely habitat for modern Tigers, who are strictly an Asian species. But, while his methods can be controversial, Varty has a noble ambition: to foster a new population of Wild Tigers.

Video: Big Cat Sounds
"Big Cat" is not a precise biological term, it is just a verbal shorthand for distinguishing the larger members of the taxonomic family Felidae from smaller ones. Some people formally define "big cats" as the 4 Panthera Species: the Tiger, Lion, Jaguar, and Leopard.
But other people also include Cheetah, Snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard, and Cougar under the "big cat" umbrella.
Big cats make interesting sounds. For example, only Panthera can roar. For this reason, they are collectively often known as "the roaring cats". Roaring requires special morphology of the larynx and hyoid apparatus in the animal's throat. Interestingly, despite having hyoid morphology similar to roaring cats, Snow Leopards cannot roar.
Here's a collection of some sounds that big (and not so big) cats can make.

News: Endangered Tiger with arrow wounds rescued from trap in Indonesia
The Endangered Sumatran Tiger found with serious arrow wounds all over its body was rescued from a wire trap in protected Indonesian jungle.
The 5year-old male Tiger was found on Jan. 9 in Bengkulu province on island of Sumatra with 9 arrow wounds estimated to be four days old.

They use steel wire to trap it by the leg so it doesn’t destroy its body. These traps are designed for Tigers, not the wild boars that the community here hunt. There are fewer than 400 Sumatran Tigers left and the animals are increasingly coming into conflict with people as their natural Habitat is rapidly deforested.
Earlier this month, Thai customs officials seized 4 boxes of smuggled Tiger skins and bones worth $60,000 believed to be en route from Indonesia to China.

News: Tiger, Elephant Parts Found in Thai Slaughterhouse Bust
Thai navy officers and forestry officials display dead Tigers and Leopards seized after a raid on an illegal wildlife trade on the bank of Mekong river in That Phanom district of Nakhon Phanom province northeastern Thailand
Estimates are that the Global Trade in Endangered Species and Wildlife is worth about $ 10 billion a year, according to the website of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species and Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES). That makes it one of the most lucrative criminal enterprises, along with drug, weapons & people trafficking.
The penalties, however, pale in comparison to those handed out to drug traffickers. “An ounce of Rhinoceros horn sells for one-and-a-half times the price of an ounce of gold, which is at record highs’’ “If the penalties for trafficking an ounce of Rhino horn were the same as for an ounce of cocaine, it might make a difference, but the profits are still so huge that it will attract criminal networks.’’
Thai police say that the Tiger and other animal parts were destined for China, the largest consumer of Endangered Species.

The best way to deal with these perpetrators is to heavily fine them say $10 Million USD PLUS a minimum of 20 year prison sentence
and if they can't pay such an eye watering amount - then consfiscate all their asset including that of their immediate families! This should be good reminder to the rest who are thinking of engaging in such despicable trade.
The fine then should be put into Tiger conservation programmes!
Photos: Sumatran Tigers celebrate Valentine's Day
The Sumatran Tigers at the London Zoo received a Valentine treat of pillows scented with Calvin Klein's Obsession. Tigers are territorial creatures & these strong smells encourage their natural scent-marking behaviors by making them rub themselves against the perfumed hearts. Lots of different scents & spices, were tried: CK Obsession is their favorite & it helps encourage some romance between them!
Sumatran Tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is Indonesia's last Tiger, since it already lost 2 distinct Subspecies of Tiger: the Bali & Javan. Listed as Critically Endangered, the Subspecies is imperiled by: widespread destruction of its Habitat for Pulp&Paper & PalmOil, poaching, snaring, & human-wildlife conflict. Around 300 Sumatran Tigers are estimated to survive in the wild. Indonesia: one of the highest rates of Deforestation worldwide; a satellite study last year: Sumatra lost around 9% of its Forest cover in the past 8 years

News: Crime Chiefs agree to get tough on Illegal Tiger Trade
15 Feb. 2012 - Crime Chiefs from Countries with populations of wild Tigers agreed to work together to combat the Illegal Trade in the Big Cats. Heads of police and customs from 13 Nations agreed to tighten controls & improve cross-border co-operation at a two-day meeting in Bangkok.
Smuggling of Tiger parts is one of the main threats facing the planet's remaining big cats.

Only about 4,000 Tigers are estimated to remain in the wild!!
Scientific name: Panthera tigris
Subspecies:
- Only 6 Subspecies remain: Amur; Northern Indochinese; Malayan; Sumatran; Bengal & South China.
- 3 Subspecies are now extinct: Bali; Javan & Caspian!!
Range:
- Tigers' historical range once spread across Asia: from Turkey to the far east of Russia;
- Over the past century Tigers lost 93% of their historical range!

Signed! The picture of the poor dead tiger on ice is just heartbreaking :( Why must we destroy such beautiful creatures.
Noted with hope. Thank you for posting Michela!
I just signed the petition to the Indonesian Minister of Forestry. Thanks!
News: Cracking down on the Illegal Tiger Trade
The Illegal Trade in Tigers is one of the most high profile threats to face these majestic big cats, yet it remains one of the most difficult to tackle.
Wildlife criminals control an organized Illegal Trade network which spans countries and continents, with Tigers being unlawfully killed or poached because of the high value that their fur and body parts fetch on the black market.
Tiger declines
Over the past century, Tigers have lost more than 93% of their historical range, and population numbers have tumbled.
3 subspecies of Tiger: the Bali, Javan & Caspian tiger are Extinct, and only 6 Subspecies of remain in the wild today.

Singed many. Some were already closed. Thanks for "collecting" the petitions.
1) (Care2) Save Sumatran Tigers from Extinction Indonesia's SumatranTiger could be the 1st large predator to be EXTINCT, unless Poaching for body parts&IllegalLogging are stopped: only 300 estimated Total SumatranTigers left!!
2) We want Strict Protection Laws globally for saving extremely Endangered Tigers
3) Act Now - Wild Tigers are Facing Extinction!
Sumatra Rainforest: SumatranTiger the smallest Tiger species, lives only here & Asian Elephant critically endangered: Habitat loss due to Palm Oil plantations. Only 300 SumatranTigers left!! In 25yrs: Tigers&Elephants declined by75%

8) SAVE TIGERS NOW + Video - Just 3,000 Tigers live in the wild today. These majestic animals face grave threats to their survival, including Poaching and Habitat Destruction. Help us give Tigers room to grow: Support Wildlife Conservation Society's efforts to conserve these great cats and their homes.

12) Fight Just to Keep Them Alive: Stop Tiger Farms and Tiger Extinction
100 years ago: 100,000 Tigers lived across Asia, from the southernmost parts of Indonesia to the easternmost parts of Siberian Russia.
Today: fewer than 4,000 tigers exist in the wild, and their numbers shrink every day.
The reasons for their endangered status include substantial habitat loss, from widespread forest clearing by industrial and agricultural trade, and human-tiger conflicts, as tigers are forced to live closer to humans where both sides clash over livestock as their food and humans retaliate attacks by killing tigers. But the biggest force in tiger extinction is the black market demand for tiger parts, which fuels poaching and captive tiger farms, the majority of which are in China.

The Bukit Tigapuluh Forest in Jambi and Riau provinces of Sumatra, also known as “Thirty Hills,” is one of the most important Habitats of the critically Endangered Sumatran Tiger. Over the past 2 months alone, WWF video and camera traps have recorded the presence of 12 Tigers, including two mothers and their cubs, in the Forests outside Bukit Tigapuluh National Park. Sadly, the area is under imminent threat of being cleared by Pulp & Paper Companies and Illegal Palm Oil growers.
The Bukit Tigapuluh Forest is also critical to the survival of forest-dwelling Indigenous People, the Suku Talang Mamak & Orang Rimba, who have been living there for centuries. Many other Endangered Species, including Orangutans and Elephants, also depend on the forest there.
Urge the Government of Indonesia and the Logging Industry to stop the destruction of critical Tiger Habitat in Sumatra.
14) Indonesian Minister of Forestry: No Roads Through The Kerinci Seblat National Park
The Kerinci Seblat National Park, which spans 4 provinces on Sumatra island, is home to an estimated 190 critically endangered Sumatran Tigers, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, Sun Bears and more than 370 Bird Species.
The road would be disastrous to one of the core Tiger Habitats in Asia and the plans for 4 roads through the park would open up previously inaccessible land to villagers and Illegal Loggers, divide breeding grounds and movement corridors, and destroy vulnerable Ecosystems.

Sadly, many big cats are Endangered or Threatened Species in the wild: their Environment is shrinking due to Deforestation & Illegal Hunting/Poaching for body parts & fur are decimating their numbers, they are facing a battle for their very survival in the wild.
Apple: being a global leader and one of the most successful Companies earning tens of Billions of dollars a year, it is your moral obligation to do your part to ensure the very survival of the majestic big cats - the ones your Mac OS X versions are named after. Please spread the word to your customers & the general public about the threats faced by the big cats and contribute annually to Wildlife Conservation Organizations who are fighting to save the big cats & their Habitats in the wild.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) investigators seized 2 Tigers and 1 Leopard Monday at a Loxahatchee facility maintained by Melanie Boynes & Steve Sipek, a former actor who played Tarzan in 6 films.

Nowhere to hide: Tigers threatened by human destruction of groundcover
The Sumatran Tiger, native to Indonesia, could be the 4th type of Tiger to disappear from the wild. This is due, in part, because of Deforestation and the Loss of thick groundcover, also known as understory cover, by a study that is the first to systematically investigate the use of both forests and plantation areas for Tiger habitat.

All done.

Sorry. Editing problem. I should have posted a new petition.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/666/177/531/protect-the-sumatran-tiger-from-extinction/
Signed, thanks.
Those incredibly magnificent animals deserve to be given a chance to survive. What's the use of killing them? For poachers to make money? And when there are no tigers left??
All signed. But I had already signed the first one:

Yay. All done

Signed all.
"Signed" all the petitions including the list under No. 16.
This list is quite awkward to follow because one sees the in the title "21 petitions", them many of the first comments mention 3 petitions, then one gets bogged reading through all the comments, thinking "where are the other petitions?", then one wastes time checking the endless links to members' news items only to find that the petitions are not there, only to discover the petitions are near the bottom of the comments.
I get turned off by some petition websites such as ForceChange because I cannot see which petitions I have already "signed" or who or how many people have "signed". (I am a subscriber to Ecological Internet and they encourage people to "sign" more than once because their actions are actually a protest and not a petition).
No. 16 is awkward. Why a "petition" which is actually a pledge to "sign" 14 petitions, many of which have now closed? (The only positive thing is that those petitions are all genuine and all on Care2 whereas, in the past, I have come across such lists of petitions (regarding seals) that were poorly written, with spelling mistakes and links that do not work, and at obsecure websites).
No. 17 is missing.
The third petition has been around since 2008 at least that is what it says. Why is it still around if this is true?? The second petition is now closed. Signed both of the open ones
Signed them all
Thank You Michela. roared all around. :)
Signed, thanks.
