In Honor of Our Fallen Soldiers This Memorial Day...
| Surprise Me

We all know the familiar time-tested refrains...

"They fight for our freedom"

and

"They died for our freedom"

These refrains refer to those we all believe to be America's bravest- those willing to wear a uniform in order to march themselves to the battlefield knowing their chances of coming out alive or whole is a total crap shoot, and tomorrow, May 30 - Memorial Day - is the day America honors the Brave who didn't come home alive.

I would like to honor our fallen soldiers by everyone asking themselves and answering these questions:

What was the last war your believe American troops fought in to gain or protect America's freedom?

and

Do you actually feel or believe you're free?

If our soldiers are actually fighting for our own personal liberties, what has their 'ultimate' sacrifice gotten us?

Do you think whatever it is we think they died for has actually been worth their ultimate sacrafice?

Oh the irony... that our beautiful sons and daughters who become soldiers, in 'fighting for our liberties' give up their own to do it...

I would also like to ask another question. How many of us that complain about our country would be willing to put on that uniform and go out to defend it, like the brave service people that did it, even with all that is wrong with the country? I did it and would proudly do it again. Even with all that is wrong with this country, it is still the best country in the world! We are much more free than most other countries in the world, thanks to these many brave and patriotic men and women. We, in America, take what we have for granted too much. We are spoiled. I have travelled to many other countries and I will take the US over any of them. Thanks to these people, we still have the right to voice our complaints. Not so in many countries.

I think most Americans would be more than willing to defend 'their' country and their liberties.. I certainly would!  Some invader will have to kill me before I give up my home.

I figured my questions would first be viewed as 'anti-soldier', or 'unpatriotic' or something like that, but that couldn't be further than the truth.  I asked those questions in defense of our soldiers.

How would you answer my questions, Roger?  What is the last war American troops fought in that was in 'defense' of America?

Roger, IMO, anyone who takes advantage of our Freedoms, in a good way, is fighting for our Country and what we stand for - everyday we all wear uniforms to defend her (our country) - to defend our families - to defend our Freedoms.  Some do it in Military Uniforms and I am proud of the service my husband gave and I know he would do it again and who knows maybe one day before he is too old he may re-up...its always there but I do know that we all serve our Country one way or another.

I may not have ever worn a Military Uniform but I wear a uniform everyday of Mother, Protector, Wife, Freedom Lover.....

Katii - I hate these Wars and I too would like to know what was the last war fought in defense of America and Americans?

Katii, I will gladly answer your question on any other day than today, a day set aside to honor  our brave and patriotic war dead. I think the question is inappropriate and a slap in the face to our service personnel, especially since we now have an all volunteer military and the people that are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq volunteered to serve, with the possibility of having to give the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

I am not in favor of war either, but I do believe in honoring our war dead. By fighting wars away from our soil, they have given us the gift that many people around the world don't have, freedom from war on our own soil, and for that I am forever grateful.

Roger, respectfully, I don't find anything 'dishonorable' about reminding ourselves that our honorable fallen soldiers have been and continue to be misused and abused.  I think our fallen would agree with me.  I know that most if not all Korean war, Vietnam war, Iraq war and Afghanistan war vets agree with me that they were not and are not fighting in defense of our country. They know where my heart is - on their side.

Which war?

And you deserve a medal and honors for that, Kat

I think the Revolutionary War was the only war fought to defend America and our freedom.  Even the Mexican/American war was fought to defend territory America took by invasive force.

Personally I don't think any standing army would ever have a chance of conquering America, not now or any other time in our history.
