Vietnam Veteran and State Senator Robert A. Hall speaks out against Socialism

Robert A. Hall is a Marine Vietnam veteran who served five terms in the Massachusetts State Senate.

“I’m 63 and I’m Tired”

By Robert A. Hall

I’m 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I’ve worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven’t called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there’s no retirement in sight, and I’m tired. Very tired.

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to “keep people in their homes.” Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I’m willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I’m tired of being told how bad America /Canada is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States and Canada will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela .

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honour”; of Muslims rioting over some slight offence; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers”; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery”; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.

I’m tired of being told that “race doesn’t matter” in the post-racial world of Obama, when it’s all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois.

I think it’s very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I’m tired of being told that out of “tolerance for other cultures” we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and mandrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America and Canada , while no American nor Canadian group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore’s, and if you’re greener than Gore, you’re green enough.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I’m tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I’m tired of illegal aliens being called “undocumented workers,” especially the ones who aren’t working, but are living on welfare or crime. What’s next? Calling drug dealers, “Undocumented Pharmacists”? And, no, I’m not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it’s been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I’m willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn’t have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honourably for three years in our military…. Those are the citizens we need.

I’m tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here’s the deal. I’ll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we’ll compare notes. British, Canadian and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I’m tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I’m tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois , where the “Illinois Combine” of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama’s cabinet.

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I’m tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, colour TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn’t have that in 1970, but we didn’t know we were poor. The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I’m real tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I’m not going to have to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughter.

I am in total agreement with this letter; I am so fed-up I could scream.

I am so angry that Obamacare is being forced upon us and the corrupt IRS will control our healthcare through our bank accounts which they will personally supervise;  However, these IRS employees filed for EXEMPTION against same Obamacare they are shoving down our throats.

What is wrong with this picture?

This letter is the TRUTH; this is what our country has come to!!!!

If he's so freaking tired about everything he writes about what's the reason he doesn't get off his dead ass and do something about it instead of crying like a baby needing a diaper change?

That's just not cutting it! For example has anyone really paid attention to Condi Rice's behavior. When she as well as Hillary who followed her talk about other countries the say things like the country must do this or that which is more like being a dictator she would accuse other countries of having. There was nothing but deceit and deception coming from them fed to we the citizens they were suppose to be representing about other countries. Show me one place in their history where they actually had the ability to use honest diplomacy in doing their jobs, just one!

Maybe you ought to try Yoga or some meditation or something for a while before buying into that BS. Life is meant to be shared together and the author of this sure don't express that!

I'm going to add something I just posted to a news item here too.

Iraq's worsening security woes hit local economy   07-27-2013

Iraq's growing sectarian rifts, deteriorating security cast dark shadow on local business

Ken •

How long is it going to take and how many countries are going to be destroyed by our US elected by the people government, before the rest of the world has to step in because we can't even manage our own country so not only do we have to pay for this but the whole world has to pay for it as well? Look at our own US economy and let's discuss that we're not much better off then the economies in the countries our US elected by the people government have messed up as well. I mean Detroit just filed for bankruptcy which will take a lot of people's pensions away while those that bought our government see their profits constantly go up. I think we're going to have to look in our own mirrors in the US to see a pattern here that's going on in the whole world and that problem started here.

Ken:  he was a state senator and he does work to change things; this is a letter of frustration and I am not sure why you are reading more into it than it is meant.

It is a letter to let others know what is wrong, how he feels, what he says and it is meant as a sharing.  Some people can feel this way but not express it as well as him.

His being a state senator makes it twice as bad for him to write a letter like this. That position he was elected for as a senator was to lead and writing about what's wrong is not leading and actually totally shows a lack of any leadership abilities! Leading is accepting the responsibility and accountability for the direction and well-being of whatever one is leading and this numbskull isn't doing that. He's distracting from his lack of leading by keeping the focus on what's wrong! How is anybody suppose to hit a target by aiming in the opposite direction?

In another post I wrote how I see 'sympathy' as an evil. With the concentration put on everything that's wrong I see this as a way of trying to get others to feel sorry for the person doing this sympathy seeking. To me it's sick and destructive.

Here's another line from his letter. "I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” In our news today there was another prison break like the one the news just reported in Iraq only this time it was in Libya. It sounded like the protest from Egypt might have something to do with this. Now in Egypt we are Egypt's military main financial support and that same military ousted their elected leader but look at who helped oust Libya's leader too and now in Libya it's divided with militias that the US funded, supported and recognized as Libya's legitimate government. This kind of stuff is endless and my question to you if you think so highly of this guy's letter with his being tired of being told that Islam is a religion of Peace, what is a Peace plan our country has? Is it funding people to protest and kill to overthrow their established governments? Just what Peace plan does the United States actually have and how's our United States 'Peace' plan working for us?

Sorry Shelah, but expressing stuff that way is destructive. My mother did that all the time and I didn't understand when my father wanted to have her committed to an institution. I grew up feeling sorry for her all the time and she was my role model so what the hell did I do but look for females that I would feel sorry for. Then when my father died my mother told me about he wondered what did he have to live for? She said he had her but that was the problem, he had her and her complaining about what was wrong with everybody and everything all the time killed his will to live and he just gave up in his mind. That's what enters my mind when I see this placing the focus on what's wrong with everybody and everything all the time. It's killing the will to live!

Ken;  lighten up as the letter is very legitimate and it is what is wrong with this counry today.

He hits the points and he did work for change as State Senator in MA.

This is a progressive liberal state and it is a wonder he got re-elected.

It's suppose to be the UNITED States and people not having the mental capabilities to understand what UNITED means are hurting not only our country but the entire world and I'm suppose to lighten up over something like what you see as a legitimate letter from what I see as an imbecile? Working for change doesn't happen with this type of letter and totally displays incompetence on his part as at best all it does is seeks sympathy which does not produce constructive change. He as well as you divide people by wanting them to choose sides. Our country is divided enough already so no thank you to the 'lighten up' request. But my request for you is, "Grow Up,' and start behaving responsible and accountable for your role in society instead crying like a child needing attention!

There used to be a young girl in our neighborhood who would look like she got hurt and would cry like crazy. The other children wouldn't even pay any attention to this crying and they just kept on playing. She would do this until an adult gave her some attention and put a bandage on her invisible wound. My way of dealing with this is to go out there with a saw in my hand and ask her which leg is hurt because I'll just cut the leg off and then it won't hurt anymore. Then she'll get up and go tell her mother about me and her mother will make up her mind real fast that they don't want to live in a neighborhood with a crazy person like me and they move. That's what I call working for change instead of crying about it asking people to feel sorry for me going through what's wrong with everybody and everything in life!

So we do have a lot wrong with our country but where in the world are any suggestions for making our country right for a change?

It is a good thing that we are not all alike.

People differ for sure.

I can respect other's opinions and you should as well.

You can keep your own but stop being so harsh and critical on others.

It is only a letter from a vietnam vet who served in office and he is now retired.

Many share his views.

There are many who are disillusioned with life today.

I am still waiting for the transparency that Obama promised.

I grew up with a mother who had your exact same behavior Shelah. She complained about everything and everybody and the struggle to overcome that being role modeled to me was one of the most difficult things in life I faced. I seriously doubt anybody could hold a decent discussion with you as all I see is your hatred for Obama and Liberals expressed. I brought up about Uniting people and asking what is the US peace plan as I seen in the past where your hatred of Muslims was also expressed.

So in a civil manner what exactly are you and the disillusioned letter writer trying to accomplish and what exactly do you and the disillusioned letter writer want from the rest of us in our country?

Ken:  you are making too many assumptions here; you do not know me.

You cannot lump people into your version of what you know because you do not know people here.

Women are complicated and of course there are similarities here and there but that does not mean you KNOW who, what and when they tick.

I do not hate Obama or the liberals, I am NOT one for sure.  I do think they are ruining this country.

Ironically, 61% of the country feels we are on the wrong track.

I do agree with Obama and the liberals re: keystone pipleline.  I do not want it passed because it is detrimental to our environment and there are limited jobs to be made in the long run.

Fracking was done recently in PA and already, the water is polluted.

using wide array of chemicals like formaldehyde, etc. to frack is objectionable and questionable.

I have read numerous reports that Fracking will trigger earthquakes as it is on the San Andreas fault line.   There are all kinds of problems that will erupt from fracking.  I hate the people who scheme to profit and ignore the environment.

I do not agree with Obama and the libs progressive agenda to transform this country into a socialist state.  That is NOT what America is all about.  We are a democratic Republic built upon the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

These people are way too eager to rewrite the Constitution.

No party is always 100% right on issues.  They are problematic.  But, I am a conservative person who believes in GOD and I am proud to say that.  I also take the environment and animal causes very seriously.

Ken:  I can state you remind me of my father who always was extremely critical, he always knew it all and he could be argumentative.  So, if you want to do comparisons, I will accomodate you here.

I hate the Muslim Brotherhood JIHADISTs who want to kill us and start a worldwide caliphate.

I do not hate Muslims, my doctor is a Muslim but he is not a MB Jihadist and I think the world of this man.

This is your problem Ken, you make wild assumptions about women on these sites and many get irritated with your remarks.  NO, you do not know me as you think you have me pegged.

I don't waste my time hating everyone.  If someone hates me and wants me killed, I can return the feelings with no problems.

One assumption I definitely own up to is that of having the capabilities of discussing a subject which in my mind clearly show in these recent posts. Again I ask in a civil manner what you and the writer of the letter are trying to accomplish and what exactly do you and the writer of the letter want from the rest of us in our society?
