Within the next few days, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives are expected to vote on a reckless bill that would force approval of the Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline, jeopardizing crucial habitat for caribou.
But the Senate can stop this.
Bayer manufactures neonicotinoids (neonics), the pesticides that a growing body of science tell us are a key factor in global bee die-offs. Bees are essential for one in three bites of food we eat, but Bayer’s pesticides are poisoning the bees’ food source and jeopardizing our own. Meanwhile, Bayer is running an elaborate PR campaign to place the blame for the bee die-offs on anything but neonics -- all to protect its profits.
Now, you can shine a light on Bayer’s bad behavior by voting for it in this year’s Corporate Hall of Shame, from our friends at Corporate Accountability International.
There are also other coorporations you can vote into the hall of shame, like monsanto
Woodlark Island, also known as Muyua Island, is an unspoilt tropical paradise located near Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific Ocean.
Woodlark is home to an ecosystem shared for thousands of years between tribal peoples and a myriad of rare, endangered, and endemic species.
However, the pristine forests of Woodlark are now under threat having become the target of a logging company, Karridale Limited, which plans to cut down more than half the trees on the island.

'Shocking Photos: Walruses Suffer as Sea Ice Melts
Lack of ice forces some 35,000 walruses to chill on Alaska shore...
The Pacific walrus was considered by scientists and wildlife organizations as one of the ten most threatened species in 2010. Similar to the polar bear, walruses rely on sea ice for breeding, giving birth, resting and feeding. As that sea ice disappears, so do populations of walruses.
Unlike seals, walruses must rest between long periods of swimming, which is generally done on large pieces of sea ice or on land. But when the sea ice is nowhere to be found, walruses have no choice but to vie for the same land as tens of thousands of their fellow walruses, causing stampedes of up to 40,000, which kill thousands from trampling. This phenomenon has recently been documented by the NOAA, and the photos have gone viral.
Sea ice is also the primary location for Pacific walrus to give birth. If this sea ice disappears, walruses could be in danger before they are even born.
Population numbers of walruses are currently unknown, but the dangers are clear. Please tell your Senators that they have been stuck in a pattern of inaction for far too long. We need immediate, strong climate action in order to save this beautiful species.

Save Precious Lake from Destructive Gas Pipeline
Fresh drinking water, wildlife, and natural land are at risk from a gas pipeline proposed to cross underneath a crucial water supply. Take action now to protect this vital water resource and the community and wildlife that rely on it.
'Stop Dumping Pharmaceuticals into the Environment
Pharmaceutical drugs can slip past waste water treatment systems, entering our environment and potentially threatening public health. Urge the government to recognize the presence of these drugs in waterways and regulate the flow of such contaminants into the environment.
'Protect Vital Waterways from Development and Destruction
Developers are looking to destroy the mandatory buffer zone around Pennsylvania rivers and streams, putting them in danger of sedimentation, erosion, and flooding. Tell lawmakers to protect the future of the state’s fresh water supply.
A federal judge upheld a mining ban in the Grand Canyon, protecting the land from hard-rock mining for the next 20 years. Celebrate this occasion by thanking the judge who ruled in favor of preserving our environment and this beautiful national landmark.

Great poster, and so very true !!
They do not have that Jan.
I'm so glad that I do not have grandchildren , because the meat consumption is rising everyday. and in this tempo , over 50 years , live will not be pleasant on this planet.
Once, maybe about 50 years , there will be an escalation of disasters.
No bees , no clean water , overpopulation ( 25 billion people ?) , only manipulated food from Shell and Monsanto but not enough , etc. , etc.
Let's hope that some influence people wake up before.
Very true Lenicka. Even those who don't care about animal suffering to provide a meat dominated diet should have the self preservation motive!
Very interesting article dear Lenicka. If humanity continues to waste the ressources of our planet , I wonder how the world looks like in 50 years...
A University study from the Netherlands on water consumption and society’s “water footprint” concluded that “the consumption of animal products contributes to more than one-quarter of the water footprint of humanity.”
While beef produces the highest water footprint of all animal products, they also found that the water footprint of any animal product was always higher than a well-grown crop of plant foods.
In the U.S. alone, it is estimated that 12,000 liters of water are used to produce one kilogram of free range beef, whereas it only takes 500 liters to grow a kilogram of corn.
Even if you gave up showering for the rest of your life, you might never come close to producing the sort of ecological impact you would if you simply gave up beef and other animal products.
*Give Up All Paper Products, or Eat Some Veggies?
Writing a note to Grandma? Making your grocery list? Taking down some study notes? Not anymore!
Since National Geographic reports that deforestation could make the world’s rainforests disappear within 100 years, we’ve got to find the best solution before the trees are gone.
But are your grocery lists really the main source of deforestation across the globe?
Of course not.
The biggest force behind deforestation is not paper products, but animal agriculture, estimated to be the direct cause of 80 percent of the world’s deforestation problem.
Entire forests are cleared to make room for livestock used for meat and dairy, and even more is cleared to make room to grow feed for this livestock.
While it’s a nice gesture to buy recycled paper productsto reduce waste and save trees, it’s an even bigger gesture to eliminate your support of the world’s biggest driver of deforestation.
And a lot easier than giving up all paper products!
Signed! Thanks Lenicka
Laws recently passed in Peru exempt members of the armed forces and police from criminal responsibility if they cause injury or death to environmental protesters.
Peru has been the scene of protests by indigenous communities opposing mining, highway developments, oil drilling and logging, activities that have polluted and destroyed the rainforest.
The Western Australia government has allowed fracking to go ahead in the stunning Kimberley region without an Environmental Protection Authority assessment (EPA).
Scottish oil company, Cairn Energy, hold the rights to explore for oil in an area to the north-west of the island in the Gulf of Valencia. The company is awaiting a decision on its environmental impact assessment by Spanish authorities, which will determine whether it can go-ahead.
All done. Thanks.
Signed everything. Don't These People have children that they would like to leave nature to?
On April 20, 2010, a British Petroleum (BP) offshore oil rig exploded, killing 11 workers on the rig and spilling tens of thousands of barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil well, located 5,000 feet below the ocean’s surface, leaked 5 million barrels (205.8 million gallons) of crude oil into Gulf Coast, with devastating consequences for Gulf Coast communities and the fragile wetlands, bayous, and coastal waters on which they depend. The spill, which was estimated to be more than 130 miles long and 70 miles wide, has impacted the coastlines of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. The release of crude oil from BP’s leaking continues to threaten hundreds of species in the Gulf of Mexico, including critical habitat for endangered species, such as whales, sea turtles, and migratory birds.
Thank you Lenicka.

*STOP CARMICHAEL MINE ! PLEASE SIGN ! !
Queensland’s ‘in-the-coal-business’ Government is allowing one of the most reckless companies in the world, Adani, to create a monstrous new mine in the Galilee Basin.
It’s so massive that it would even require its very own shipping terminal in – of all places – the heart of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
We can still stop this. Environment Minister Hunt has the final say, and he could announce his decision at any moment. Join our call to reject the Carmichael mine.
Have signed everything and can only hope that we can stop the politicians destroying our world completely before it's too late.
New Zealand - Save the Kauri Tree
New Zealand’s most famous tree and the largest conifer in the world, the Kauri tree, can grow to heights of 50 metres or more and live for thousands of years.
In a depressing familiar story, humans have been and still are threatening the existence of this iconic species. Originally, the problem was logging and clearance, first by the Maoris and then, on an industrial scale, by European immigrants.
Tell President Obama That Keystone XL is NOT in Our National Interest
The State Department released its final environmental impact report on Keystone XL -- and despite the spin from the oil industry, it shows our voices have made a difference. Now, with your help, it's time to defeat Keystone XL once and for all.
President Obama vowed to reject the pipeline if the project would "significantly exacerbate the problem of carbon pollution." The facts are clear: Keystone XL fails President Obama's climate test.
In October of 2013, the governing body of North Dakota decided that 1.2 million acres of land, including places like the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers and a number of national parks, were to be classified as ‘extraordinary places’ and were protected from unregulated oil drilling. In the beginning of 2014, that ruling was modified. Now only public lands are protected, and these total only about 600,000 acres, less than half of what was previously defended.

The meat industry is one of the worst polluters!! I read many articles, statistics etc which prove it but money making business is still more important for Governments then saving our planet for future generations
A new UN report on climate change explains that a global shift towards a vegan diet is vital to save the world from hunger, fuel poverty and the worst impacts of climate change.
At this very moment, a powerful group of the largest U.S. and European banks, agribusinesses and other powerful industry groups are rewriting our policies on health, environmental and financial protections. For over a decade, they have pushed for a new U.S. "trade" deal with Europe – the Trans-Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA), which corporate proponents have tried to rebrand as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T.T.I.P). It will allow corporations to sue governments when their future profits are being diminished by changes in your country's legislation.

The Sundarban region is the largest section of continuous mangrove forest in the world and is home to roughly 500 species of fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, and the endangered Bengal Tiger. The loss of the Sundarbans would likely result in the extinction of these cats as it is only one of a few forests left capable of maintaining several hundred tigers.
