Thank you for the update Anneke !!
Just giving you an up date on the dogs that were taken to the pound in Mexico City after blaming them for the deaths. Some of them have been reunited with their families because not all were street dogs. There are still 57 dogs in the pond, now the 23 puppies are available for adoption and we all hope soon the adult dogs will also be available for adoption. I'm sending you the link so you can see the beautiful puppies that you helped to save with your effort's and all the people that support them. This is the Council's site so it's all being legally taking place to find responsible and caring homes.
Seems like they underestimated the peopel's reaction. Great to see protest and support for the dogs.
January 12, 2013: people handing out flyers with information about animal abuse in the center of Mexico City were arrested by the police. Protest against these brutal acts of repression.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-20967693 This is another piece I found this morning.
This was on BBC news early this morning and also showed an elephant behind bars and talking about animal abuse in Mexico.
A quien corresponda,

Once more dogs are in danger in Mexico. This time in Mexico City, in Iztapalapa. In the past month in the same area, there had been found 6 bodies. The bodies show signs of torture, at least one woman was raped with a pipe and had one breast cut off, now the authorities are blaming some street dogs of killing these persons! They caught 25 dogs and are planning to kill them. Even the family of the murdered people and the people living in the area where the bodies were dumped are saying this is not true. besides dogs don't torture and rape. Neighbors say there had not heard any screams and that the people who were killed lived far from there, which suggests that the bodies were dumped in that site.
Some news broadcasting are labelling them the "killer dogs" using them as scapegoats for these murders. Here's the news that includes photos of some of the 25 dogs that are being blamed. Unfortunally it's in Spanish, as well as the video.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your chimps dear Jan !!
Thanks for the background info dear Lenicka!
When I was in Mexico 1993, I saw alot of abuse of horses, dogs, birds, Iguanas and other animals. I rescued 2 Iguanas (a male and a female) that have been exposed in a market in the burning sun, mouth stitched up, legs tightly roped on the back, still alive but slowly dying. I bought them and set them free in the wild, but the female was very weak already, don't know if she survived...
Mexico is a hellhole for animals, same as the Caribbean. They don't care at all, animals are something to be used. And alot of sadism also. They still electrocute dogs in kill shelters, I saw a video of it.
No Lenicka - I put 1st January which is what chimps have put for them when they are wild caught and no one knows their real age! All our older chimps have their birthday today! Tubman is 47 today, Freddie is 43 and Nakima is 38. Bili ist least 32 - no history available for him.
I have. It's very save on my and on a extanding computer. I must say , I never saw the whole video. Nobody did I think. It is to horrible. A lot of other people maked a accepteble version and put it in internet. Yes Jan , Mexico is terrible I hear it from so many people that live or lived their.
BTW Jan , it is almost 24 hours 31-12-2012 here. Do you realy have birhtday now , or did you let just the 01 january stay on the moment you make your page on Care2 ?
Lenicka - did you keep a copy? I don't know about this I don't think. No wonder the San Bernabe market is so awful.
Mexico City Orders Prison in Animal Cruelty Cases
Sounds nice , but thats all !!
Before there will be a case in court , they have to catch the abuser. And that seldom happens.
I have a long list of crimes where never were arrested the perpetrator. The case I know the best is from the Mexican Kitten Killers , one of the most horrible cases I ever saw.
- There was a video on You Tube
- The killers were very good to identify
- Name and location are known by the police
But , 3 people that did all the work in Mexico to identify them , disappeared and we don't know whats happens with them. 1 person that runs a FB page on this case , also disappeared last month.
And there are more stories of the scare of people that know the killers , to say one word to the police.
Why ? Because the police have declared that they know who they are and that they do not arrest them.
We first thought that the killers belongs to a drugs-cartel but they declared they do not.
Very strange such a declaration.
There are a lot of brave Mexican and American people involved with this case , there is a lot of evidence but nothing happens and never will.
I was in the very strange and for me almost unbelievable situation that I was the only one in the world that saved the original video on my computer before the killers closed their canal.
I have sent the video to the press in Mexico , to Justice , there was a petition here on care2 etc etc. and the result is ... nothing , only more people that are disappeared.
7 YT canals from Mexico that uploaded my video ; closed and never heart from the up loaders again.
So , a law ??? I can be only cynical about that.
And what I write here above is only 1 example.
I hope its not only written on paper but that they really DO punish them...
Well that is amazing. Thanks Monika.
thanks for the info Monika
MEXICO CITY ORDERS PRISON IN ANIMAL CRUELTY CASES
Associated Press , Dec. 3 0, 201 2
Mexico City — Mexico City lawmakers have approved prison terms for animal cruelty , previously considered a civil offense sanctioned with fines and detentions.
The capital's legislative assembly unanimously agreed that people who intentionally abuse and cause animals harm will face up to two years in prison and pay up to $500. If the animal is killed, they can face up to four years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
Antonio Padierna, president of the assembly's law enforcement and justice committee, said late Friday that if animals are killed for food, the death must be quick and not cause pain.
The lawmakers agreed current administrative laws weren't doing enough to end animal cruelty. In Mexico City, animals are sometimes killed by being burned, beaten or shot.
