BLM Closes Inhumane Mustang-Holding Facility in Utah

The BLM is closing the Salt Lake Regional Wild Horse and Burro Center in Utah, seven months after The Cloud Foundation released a video documenting the egregious conditions at the facility, including footage of horses standing in and lying upon knee deep mud and muck. The captive mustangs at the center are being moved to two other holding facilities in Utah.

Vinnie,amazes me, again

are there no bounds to your inner beauty?

I PERSONALLY THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS IDEA,A REALITY.

I'M SO GLAD YOU RESTRICTED IT TO ANIMALS, AS THAT IS MY MAIN SOURCE OF DISTURBANCE,

SOME HORRID STORIES LATELY,THANK GOODNESS THEY FOUND THAT PHILLIPINE COUPLE WHO SHOT THAT CRUSH DOG VIDEO,AND POSTED ON FB.

ON SUBJECT, I HOPE UTAH TREATS IT'S WILD HORSES WITH THE CARE, THAT THEY OBVIOUSLY DID NOT GET AT SALT LAKE.

NICE PHOTO,I THINK,FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THEY ARE HEALTHY, AND NOT SKIN AND BONES LIKE SOME HORSES I'VE SEEN IN SOME DISTURBING STORIES.

AGAIN, THANKS VINNIE.

NOW WORK AS HARD, ON YOURSELF,YOU DESERVE A LITTLE TLC, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF,MY FRUDDY,FANGED FRIEND

YOU WORK SO HARD FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

ASPCA Applauds Jack's Pets for No Longer Selling Puppies

PuppySupporters across the nation have taken a stand against puppy mills, and pet stores are taking notice. Recently, Jack’s Pets, one of the largest pet store chains in the Midwest, has decided to no longer sell puppies in any of its stores. Instead, Jack’s will work with the ASPCA to expand its work with local animal shelters and rescue groups to offer in-store pet adoptions.

“The ASPCA is thrilled to see a pet store chain like Jack’s transition to a no puppy sales model,” says ASPCA President and CEO Ed Sayres. “We hope that this decision will convince other pet stores to stop selling puppies and support local animal adoption programs, which would improve the lives of countless dogs.”

Over the last six months, Jack’s Pets has changed its name, expanded its pet food selections to more than 30 brands, and tested a successful new store format that does not include the sale of puppies.

“We have over one million customers coming through our doors every year,” says Scott Brenner, president of Jack’s Pets. “We recognize that we can have a very positive impact on our local pet community by working with various adoption agencies surrounding our stores.” He adds, “We want to continue to provide our customers with lovable companions while helping to save dogs’ lives, and we hope other stores will follow suit.”

In July 2011, the ASPCA unveiled a national campaign to raise awareness about the connection between pet store puppies and puppy mills. Our goal is to reduce the demand for puppy mill puppies by urging consumers not to buy any items—including food, supplies or toys—if the store or website sells puppies

Lost a rescue to an inoperable brain tumor.
bought from a disgusting kennel in Pennsylvania.
Took him to rescue from abusive breeders.
Died at two. 15 puppy litter, all died within two years.
They mated a very old female, all grey.
charged 1000 dollars per pup.
The state had a lemon law for puppies.
emailed the district attorney, they got fined, and I got half my money back. Had not gotten promised akc paperwork. SO SAD. POOR LITTLE GUY. HE WAS HALF THE NORMAL SIZE FOR THE BREED. GOT PARALYZED BECAUSE HIS HEAD WAS TOO SMALL, AND THE TUMOR WAS PUSHING ON HIS NERVOUS SYSTEM.

Obama Plan Will Ban New Uranium Mining in Grand Canyon The spectacular Grand Canyon landscape got great news yesterday with the announcement of an Interior Department plan to ban new uranium mines on 1 million acres surrounding the national treasure for the next 20 years. The proposal came after years of hard advocacy by the Center for Biological Diversity and its allies to protect the lands and waters of the Grand Canyon from the toxic legacy of uranium mining. Thank you for the thousands of emails, phone calls and letters you sent the Interior pushing for this ban. The decision will protect some of the most biologically rich lands in the Southwest, home to springs, creeks and more than 1,000 species, including imperiled animals like the humpback chub. Banning new uranium mining on 1 million acres will save these iconic landscapes from roads, mining waste and industrial pollution. An official decision making the rule final is expected in about 30 days. Read an AP story on the ban here.

How sad about your puppy. I did an impulse buy at a pet store. Animal Kingdom on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. There now everyone can see who they are. My pup was sick and died in 3 weeks no matter how much the Vet did. She had Parvo. I cried so hard & I only have 9 pictures of her. But my dear friend Tina in Chicago said, "Vinnie for 3 weeks, she had her own bed, food and you loving her, so please stop crying yourself sick". Then we hugged and I felt better. I'm huggung you right now as I know you are to me back. Now let's keep this Good news. Huggles, Vin and Dottie says A-hooo. xoxo

at the computer, as I was trying to say.
we planted fruit trees, especially for the native american children in the grand canyon.
There was a vitamin c deficiency bordering on scurvy.

my friends and I all chipped in and went there to observe the trees being planted.

The children were so sweet, and grateful.

How lucky you get to see The Grand Canyon. Maybe someday I'll make it out there if I ever get any money. Took all my cans in to The Metal Man truck today and made a whopping $14.00, got some gas, t.p., and a pack of smokes and am broke again. lol..Till the 1st, my SSI. How sweet of you to help the kids plant fruit trees so they don't get Scurvy. That word reminds me of Pirate movies. hahaha, Goodnight.

I'll pray for her and hope all is well.  Siouxz, I'm glad you said this is a Breed worth keeping at the end of your sentence because my dear friend, here is where we will have "To Agree to Disagree". I am Totally Against Breeding,   because of all the poor dogs and cats that have to be put Down in Shelters every year. It's so sad. Your Fruddy Buddy, still. All a kin say fruddy buddies is that so many pets are in shelters,  not because of breeding,  but because of non caring, irresponsible, and even sometimes evil "owners"

to hear .your moms doing better,Iain, thanks for the support, about fyre.

Vinnie,I  have had five neutured Irish setters, plus a few rescues come and gone(died). I wouldn't even be thinking of bredding fyre, except his mother, sadie's

owner begged me to not let  his special line to end with his siblings.

He comes from a very special line of setters that the main breeder, who has cancer cannot continue. His traits are so admirable, that I've been told, even by the vet, that he has the best personality of any dog they have ever met.

Traits worth reproducing, methinks.I Promised her that I would give it a go,if possible, still trying to find a suitable partner, worthy of his seed.

I agree, there are too many homeless pets, but, like Iain said,it's not the fault of the pet,but IT'S OWNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STILL FRUDDIES.

HUGS ALL

SIOUXZ

Hi, my little froggie sisters and brother!

Siouxz, I hope you find the right "lady" for Fyre. His special attributes deserve the best of the female setters to mother his litter.

Iain, I'm glad your mom is feeling a bit better. I hope and pray that she comes out of the hospital and has a full and speedy recovery.

I got Mandy from a neighbor who had both the mother (a Shi Tsu) and the father (a Maltese) and there was a second littler that the neighbor didn't know what to do with. He sold the first litter and was going to give Mandy and her four brothers to an animal shelter. I told him I'd find homes for them and I took Mandy. She was 6 weeks old when I got her, a soft bundle of black, tan and white fur. She'll be 7 years old in January and she's extraordinarily smart. I guess that's because I have no one else to talk to so I talk to her. lol I had a feral cat that my neighbor upstairs brought to me who, as he grew up, became so attached to me that he thought he was a dog. Followed me around wherever I went. I got Minky when he was about 7 weeks old and he died of urinary problems 7 years later. I still miss him. You can see both him and Mandy on my profile page. I can't seem to post in here. Can't even put one of our own emoticons in.    Did this manually by typing colon, dash and left parenthesis.

That's it for now, my fruddies. Talk later!  Fruddie huggies to all of you!!

Okay, I agree

Well in that case for a dog who has a super traits it's worth a go. Just like they have to make special dogs for blind people or in wheel chairs. So good luck Siouxz. So glad you took in Mandy my dear Lynn. She was so lucky.Sorry ur still having comp. probs. I talk out loud to Dottie too. Goodnight fruddy-buddys.

ASPCA Happy Tail
Owen

Owen the Dog

The ASPCA provides support for and is part of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a coalition of animal welfare groups working together to make our hometown safer for animals. This Happy Tail, from Kate Naito, is a great example of how the Mayor’s Alliance is making a difference for animals throughout our city.

Despite the rough shape Owen was in when I met him, I'm starting to think he's the only dog with nine lives. He was well into his teens when he was found wandering around Chinatown on a frigid Christmas Eve and taken to Animal Care & Control.

A kindhearted employee took pity on him and asked a Brooklyn limited-intake shelter to accept this "two-year-old Chihuahua."

Luckily for Owen, the shelter, Sean Casey Animal Rescue, took him in, even though it was obvious he was not two (even 12 would be generous!) and not exactly a Chihuahua.

One day I went to the shelter to walk dogs, and I spotted a teetering old terrier mix. He was looking blankly into space and just trying to keep his balance while standing.

Honestly, I can't say it was love at first sight. It was more like sympathy at first sight. He looked as if he wouldn't make it another week in the shelter.

So despite having no attachment to this sick old man, I convinced my husband to bring Owen home and give him a nice place to spend his dwindling days. We decided not to bother changing his name, since he wouldn't have time to learn a new one.

That was April 2010. Owen is still with us, and I could never have imagined how much joy he would have brought to my life, albeit not right away. When I brought him home, he just wanted to be left alone.

But as Owen got chubbier and stronger, he decided that I wasn't so bad, after all. Now he is my happy little shadow. When I get out of bed in the morning, he spins like a top with excitement. If I dare try to sleep in, he wakes me up with his hoarse howl (or his "moo," as we call it). He's the cutest alarm clock ever.

I always knew our time with Owen would be limited, so I never miss a chance to give him a kiss or sneak him a treat; each day with him really is precious. He's shown me that any dog is capable of becoming your best friend, no matter how old he is.

lost fyre, yesterday.
was on the interstate to phoenix. he needed a walk.
broke his leash started running, and miraclously dodged, cars, trucks( a mack truck almost hit him, thought he was finished)
8 lanes of highway,He crossed them all.
Drivers literally, stopped till I retrieved him.Dazed, and confused from the other side of the highway, going the opposite way.
Thank goodness,he was unhurt, hugged him all night.
realizing he could have, DIED, right in front of me.
wouldn't be the first time that I had to watch a pet die right in front of me, helpless to do anything

OMG! Siouxz, you scared the life out of me. When you said "lost fyre", I thought you meant it in the literal way. You must be traumatized, you poor baby. And Fyre, too. He must be scared and disoriented from running in front of cars on the highway. Thank whoever is watching over us that he was unharmed. My heart is beating fast as I write this. It could have ended so badly, but it's alright now, so try to calm down and just hug him for all he's worth!

OMG is right Lynn

You better get a stronger leash and wait till you get to a Rest stop, but never let him off his leash. I so happy the traffic out there stopped. If it was here where everybody is in a big hurry to get nowhere, they never would have stopped. Well not on the Highway, on the streets most people do Brake for dogs. I brake for dogs more than for people. Dottie is so happy as is Mandy I'm sure. They all need to have an On-line Playdate. lol.. Souixz, I Opened it and they want the same stuff all over again. A copy of every frigging thing I've sent twice. Monday and Tuesday thunderstorms so I'll call Wednesday and tell them NO, I'm not doing it all over again. F--- You.. Nicely of course. This is Bullshit already..Well at least it didn't say no out right. Keep fingers crossed. Thx. Hun for the encouragement. xoxoxo

Lynn.Vinnie

my exact opinion, Bought a stronger leash,a harness, and will never let him goad me into stopping , anywhere, but at a rest stop.
He was whining so much, I could not bear it...
He didn't do anything but run all over the place skirting cars,,and trucks.
The I-10 is a major highway, and I'm immensely grateful for all the vehicles that stopped for him. My first setter was hit by a car, took 20 hours to drag himself, and half the forest home
He had a bruised eye,all shut and swollen, and a subepidermal hematoma, that would not close.
Internal bleeding, had to be rushed to the vet, sedated for a week against movement, and fed only red meat to replace all the lost blood.
He learned a lesson that stayed with him his whole life, I doubt fyre learned a thing.
BUT I SURE DID.....Still amazed,he doesn't have a scratch, the dog must have someone watching over him....(I believe,my mom, and my other setters)LUCKY DOG.
I too, was running all over the interstate trying to catch him, with no regard for my safety, either. It was one of those two minute, wtf, moments.
thank you both for caring, and being here for us.
massive siouxz hugs, and fyre kisses to all of you, dogs, and owners alike. He must have an angel on his shoulder.

I think you'll all get a kick out of this picture of Mandy. Let me preface it by telling you the lead-in story. Every night as I get ready for bed, Mandy, who sleeps with me, burrows under the covers, scratches around and then lays down.... either under the covers or she gets on top and lays down. This one night, I turn around, ready to climb into bed and this is what I see: (I made the caption because it seemed so appropriate).
