Sweetie I moved you here because it's a long web-site and a good one too. Besides that Thread is getting full. Time to start another one. Rough weekend so I'm behind again. Storms again tomorrow, not severe, they say but it is April. Thx. to everyone who sent me Birthday cards and comments. Will get to them when I can. My friend here in Town bought me a beautiful Horse card with lilac flowers and a $ 20.00 bill inside. And some friends called. Love all my Fruddy Buddys. Goodnight from me and Dottie. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Thanks Vinnie.....got this from one of the many links Frogs and Toads: The difference

Many people have not been able to differentiate between the frogs and toads. The reality is that the difference is not the same. This is due to the fact that the two are amphibians which imply that they can both cohabit in water and on land. The frogs and toads have got short body sizes without tails on them and hence are referred to with the Greek name of anura.

The frogs and toads also develop in a similar manner with the two hatching from eggs and cohabiting comfortably under water. The two have both vocal cords and have the ability of producing sounds while under water. The two also lay eggs and breed them under water.

They also develop in the same way, from being mostly born as eggs, living under water. The above mentioned similarities end there and one must acknowledge the fact that they are notable differences between the two.

For starters it is worth noting that the two have got different skin types. For the frogs there skin is smooth, velvety and wet due to the fact that they usually cohabit under water. On the other hand the toad is found especially on land and thus has got dry and very warty skin.

Further to this the frogs tend to lay the eggs in the bodies of the water where there are no fish. The eggs are round in shape. The eggs of the toads have a very nasty taste and are even found in waters that have already been inhabited. The eggs are not round but rather have got a long shape that is chain like.

When it comes to the shapes of the bodies the frogs are slimmer and have longer bodies and the feet are webbed like and thus swimming is enhanced. On the contrary the toads possess short and round body shapes and the legs are much shorter and muscular and thus make walking very easy.

Some amazing facts about frogs

  • The smallest frog of the world is the gold frog which measures about 9.8 mm.
  • The biggest frog is Goliath frog it is 30 cm long and weighs 3.3 kilos.
  • Frogs can change there colors according to there surrounding
  • Some frogs are poisonous
  • Frogs can jump 20 times its own body length in a single jump
  • When frog swallows food its eye go inside its head to provide pressure to swallow the insect.

Beside these several myths are attached to frogs from ancient times and a lot of ancient culture associate fortune and weather with frogs. Sometimes these myths do make sense but at the end of the day they are just myths and have nothing to do with reality. Listed below are some of the myths that are attached to these creatures.

  • Some Australians and Native Americans believe that frog bring rain. It is a common experience that Frogs do make a lot noise before rain storms.
  • The word frog in Sanskrit means clouds so Hindus believe that frogs personify thunders in the sky.
  • Chinese believe that toad is on the moon and when it tries to swallow the entire moon eclipse happen. They also consider it as one of the five poisons of yin.

Some attach frogs with weather other associate it with good and bad luck

  • Japanese consider it as a symbol of good fortune.
  • Some folklorists claim that if the first frog you see in the spring is sitting on a dry surface you will shed a lot of tears during the whole year if it is in the water you will experience misfortune. If the frog comes hopping towards you, you will have many friends and if it hops away you will loose many.
  • Some associate them with incarnation of demons and devils.

Gardiner's tree frog sitting on human finger nail - to show size   Iain dear, I believe this is the gold frog to which you refer.  It's called  "Gardner's Tree Frog".  What a beauty. Kinda looks like jewelry. Which they do wear live bugs in China, the very rich anyway. Have to go Sign a Petition agaist it in The Chinese Group, but not now. Siouxz, if you like humidity you'd love it in a swamp. lol.. Glad I checked Care2, now as it is going down again tonight for maintenance. Probably won't be able to get on anyway. Also, Iain, I got your note about having a "Devilishly Wednesday".  OMG, We are under Severe thunderstorms watch all night and tomorrow, Last night we had small hail and loud Boomers (thunder). Got my basement bag ready and tomorrow Dottie has a Vet appointment if we can go outside safely. Siouxz, what post ? I didn't delete anything. What about frogs and Martinis ? LOL..from me and Dottie   and   to those I couldn't send a star too.
