Michelle Obama Thinks People Actually Rode the Underground Railroad *sigh*
5 years ago

Now, back when our great-grandparents were riding that Underground  Railroad, back when John Lewis was marching across that bridge in  Selma, and Jim Clyburn was sitting in an Orangeburg jail, the injustices we  faced were written in big, bold letters on the face of our laws. And  while we may have had our differences over strategy, the battles we  needed to fight were very clear.

Yes, it should have gotten several chuckles for sure.  The real problem here  is that she read it from a teleprompter, which means it was written beforehand  and probably been fact checked by others, no doubt!

It gets worse though.  Obviously playing to a large black audience, Mrs.  Obama wanted to talk about slavery and segregation.

“We knew that to end slavery we needed a proclamation from our president and  amendment to our Constitution,” said the first lady. “To end segregation, we  needed the Supreme Court to overturn the lie of separate but equal. To reach the  ballot box we needed Congress to pass the voting rights act … We moved forward  and we won those battles and made progress that our parents and grandparents  could never have dreamed of.”

“But today, while there are no more ‘whites only’ signs keeping us out, no  one barring our children from the schoolhouse door, we know that our journey is  far far from finished,” she told the audience.

Here’s an alert for Mrs. Obama.  Segregation is over.  Slavery is over.  You  didn’t experience either one.  So please, stop patronizing people with dark  skin.

But,of course Obama had to get her two cents worth in on nutrition.  Yes,  that’s right.  The queen of the food Nazis put her best foot forward when it  comes to foods people eat.

“What exactly do we do about children who are languishing in crumbling  schools,” Obama asked.  “What about kids growing up in neighborhoods where they  don’t have opportunities worthy of their dreams. What about the 40% of black  children who are overweight or obese, or the nearly 1 in 2 who are on track to  develop diabetes in their lifetimes.

“What laws can be passed to end those wrongs,” she continued. “Make no  mistake about it, change absolutely starts at home, we know that. It starts with  each of us taking responsibility for ourselves and our families. Because we know  that our kids won’t grow up healthy until our families start eating right and  exercising. That’s on us.”

Wait, what laws?  OK, I’ll bite here.  She hit the nail on the head right  after that.  It’s called responsibility.  There is no law needed.  Let me ask,  is Mrs. Obama suggesting that there be a law that I have to get up and run on  treadmill for an hour a day?  Is she implying there should be a law that I not  consume adult beverages and law off of good tasting food that she deems to not  be nutritional?  It seems she is.

After I pick my chin up from the floor, I will comment.  LOL  You have to be joking; she could not have uttered anything so ridiculous could she?  Where did she go to college as I certainly will not encourage my granddaughter to go there.

And what about the white kids that live in ghettos and go to crumby schools that are falling apart?  Do they not count?

And yes, she did not grow up as a slave, she did not experience segregation and it has been quite a few years since it existed.  Unless people are willing to let go of it and move on, it will continue to fester and be an issue.  It does not need to be, it shouldn't be, but the black commuinty of activists such as the Obama's just can't put it to rest.

I am going to hope she meant that in the same context as the expression 'riding Shank's mare'.

I saw a piece on TV yesterday of Obama being interviewed in Hawaii.   Michelle was standing to the right of him in a tight sleevless tank top with a white terry bathing suit cover up around her waist.    Guess she had just walked off the "beach."    All I could think of is "and this is our first lady?"    Astounding.

Gee, Michelle, maybe someday a black man might even be president.

And like her husband, they have nothing to worry about now as they have their 4 more years at our expense.  Then again, if they keep going the way they are, the vacations may have to stop as there is no money in the treasury to pay for them.  Oh, how could I forget, he will just raise the debt limit and get he Fed to print more money.

Agree, Diane, she is not the picture of a first lady at all.

Linda: You have to remember what the priorities of this administration are and vacations and flitting around the country and the world pushing his radical policies are at the top of the list for funding! Michelle frequently is as ignorant and even more ideological than Dear Leader himself which is hard to do!

John, forgive me as I did have a lapse in memory.  LOL  You are so right, though.
