Oregon State fired head coach Craig Robinson on Sunday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. In six seasons, Robinson went 94-105 with no NCAA tournament appearances. The Beavers went 16-16 last season and are losing all five starters from that team.

The biggest surprise of the firing of Robinson, the brother-in-law of President Barack Obama, comes with the timing. Oregon State's season ended six weeks ago with a loss to Radford in the CBI and Robinson had reportedly received support from Oregon State's administration. Robinson has three more years remaining on this contract and the university is expected to owe him more than $4 million.

Robinson began his tenure with a 18-win season in 2008-09, as he took a team that had lost 21 consecutive Pac-10 games and put the program on the right track. That coincided with the election campaign of Obama, as Robinson introduced his sister, Michelle Obama, at the Democratic National convention in the summer of 2008. From there, Robinson had uneven results at one of the Pac-12's hardest jobs. He's finished with a 39-69 record in Pac-12 play.

Robinson began to change the culture at Oregon State after the disastrous tenure of Jay John, who finished 28-68 in the Pac-12 in his five-plus seasons. Oregon State has not reached the NCAA tournament since 1990. The Beavers last won a game in the NCAA tournament in 1982.

I just  read Diane's article pretaining to the colleges that have had to cancel commencement speakers and how they have had to become politically correct.  I wonder how much pressure Oregon State University is going to be facing over this; but his record is so poor.  The students and alumni had been writing the President of the University and the Athletic Director for 2 years and finally the could no longer ignore the issue and they finally did what they should have done 2 years ago, fired the non-performer.

I wonder if this will hamper Michelle and the girl's trip to Colorado this coming winter to snow ski with Uncle Craig.

Does anyone see the family resemblance?  I sure do.

I am having a serious "loading" issue getting articles/comments to post.   Bummer!

I'm sure Michelle and her mother are seething with this act of pure "racism" to dare fire Craig for underperforming!
