“What Paul Prayed For?”

by sysministriesinc

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His Will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives” (Colossians 1:9 NIV)

When it came to those he loved, notice what Paul prayed for:

1.       That They Would Understand the Will of God:  “For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His Will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things” (AMP) Rome was not an easy place to be a Christian, yet Paul wrote: “Everyone has heard about your obedience…” (Romans 16:19 NIV). Obedience to God’s Will should be your number one priority! When your name is mentioned, no one should have any doubt as to the level of your commitment to Jesus! And that level of commitment is revealed through the Knowledge and Obedience of the Will of God. Therefore, while you’re praying for your loved ones, pray that they willKnow, Understand and Fulfill the Will of God! “Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is THE WILL OF GOD for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Meditator of that WILL]” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMP); “For it is GOD’S WILL and intention that by doing right [your good and honest lives] should silence (muzzle, gag) the ignorant charges and ill-formed criticisms of foolish persons” (1 Peter 2:15 AMP); “And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with GOD’S WILL” (Romans 8:27 AMP); “For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will and purpose but to do the WILL AND PURPOSE OF HIM WHO SENT ME. And this is the WILL OF HIM WHO SENT ME, that I should not lose any of all that He has given Me, but that I should give new life and raise [them all] up at the last day. For this is MY FATHER’S WILL AND HIS PURPOSE, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up [from the dead] at the last day” (John 6:38-40 AMP). You Cannot Say You Love Them And Not Desire To Pray the Will of God Be Done In, For and Through Their Lives!

2.       That Their Lives Would Be Pleasing To God: “That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things…” (Colossians 1:10 AMP). When you stand before God to be rewarded you won’t hear the words “well said”, or “well planned, “ but, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21 NKJV) So when praying for those you love, make sure to include “Lord Help Them To Please You”! And how will they do this? By their Walk, Conduct and Mannerisms! Pray That They Don’t Just Use "I’m a Christian" as a Cliché, but That They Live It Out In Character and Conduct!  “And saying, Repent (think differently; change your mind, regretting your sins and changing your conduct), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3:2 AMP); “Bear fruits that are deserving and consistent with [your] repentance [that is, conduct worthy of a heart changed, a heart abhorring sin]…” (Luke 3:8 AMP); “Let us live and conduct ourselves honorably and becomingly as in the [open light of] day, not in reveling (carousing) and drunkenness, not in immorality and debauchery (sensuality and licentiousness), not in quarreling and jealousy” (Romans 13:13 AMP) You Cannot Say You Love Them And Yet You’re Not Praying That They Conduct Themselves Better!

3.       That They Would Prosper In The Work God Had Given Them: “…bearing fruit in every good work…” Nothing brings joy to the heart of a parent like seeing their child succeed. And God feels the same way about you! So when you’re calling out your loved ones in prayer, also ask God to help them bear good and lasting fruit for His Kingdom! Pray that they use all of their gifts wisely and effectively, every skill-set, every talent for the Glory of God! Pray that they put their hands to the plow and do not look back! Pray that they are not just busy but Productive! Producing Fruit, More Fruit and Much Fruit For The Kingdom!“The fruit of the [uncompromisingly] righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures human lives [for God, as a fisher of men – he gathers and receives them for eternity]” (Proverbs 11:30 AMP); “From the fruit of his words a man shall be satisfied with good, and the work of a man’s hands shall come back to him [as a harvest]” (Proverbs 12:14 AMP); “Either make the tree sound (healthy and good), and its fruit sound (healthy and good), or make the tree rotten (diseased and bad), and its fruit rotten (diseased and bad); for the tree is known and recognized and judged by its fruit” (Matthew 12:33 AMP) You Cannot Say You Love Them And Yet You Do Not Pray That Their Lives Produce Good, Healthy Fruit!

4.       That They Would Preserve By Drawing On His Strength: “[We pray] that you may be invigorated and strengthened with all power according to the might of His glory, [to exercise] every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance) with joy,” (Colossians 1:11 AMP).  Like a light bulb, you depend on power from another source. So unless you stay connected to God you’ll remain spiritually powerless! As you pray for your loved ones, include that they will stay connected to the Power Source…GOD! Whether they are empowered on the job, in the church, in their home or in the grocery store line, pray that they stay connected to the Source! “Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. If a person does not dwell in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken-off] branch, and withers; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and they are burned. If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you” (John 15:4-7 AMP) You Cannot Say You Love Them and Do Not Pray That They Remain Connected to Their Power Source Which Will Give ThemEndurance, Patience, Perseverance and Forbearance! Not To Mention The Power of Unspeakable Joy! “…And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold” (Nehemiah 8:10 AMP); “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” (1 Peter 1:8 AMP).

5.       That They Would Be Thankful To God: “Giving thanks to the Father, Who has qualified and made us fit to share the portion which is the inheritance of the saints (God’s holy people) in the Light.” (Colossians 1:12 AMP) There’s nothing worse than to be in the company of Ungrateful, Complaining, Miserable People! And if you love your loved ones, you will most certainly pray that they always possess a Thankful Heart and Attitude! Pray that no matter what they’re going through that they will never be forgetful of the Lord’s blessings over their lives! “O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I’ll bless His holy name! O my soul, bless God, don’t forget a single blessing! He forgives your sins – every one. He heals your diseases – every one. He redeems you from hell – saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy – a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness  - beauty eternal. He renews your youth – you’re always young in His presence” (Psalm 103:1-5 MSG). You Cannot Say You Love Them, and Not Pray That They Are Always Thankful of the Lord’s Incalculable Blessings In Their Lives! Which Include, According to the Scripture, Being Qualified By the Father and Made Fit to Share In the Portion Which is the Inheritance of the Saints (God’s Holy People) In the Light!

Paul says something extremely vital, “…WE Have Not Stopped Praying For You…”Which lets us know that Paul wasn’t the only one Praying, he was in a Company of Praying People! Are You?

And prayer meant so much to them that they  “…Have Not Stopped Praying…”That’s When You Know You Genuinely Love Someone! When the harder you pray, they still don’t change, and yet you, “…Have Not Stopped Praying…”

If They Mean to You What You Say They Do…Likewise, You Will Make Certain to Keep Yourself In the Company of Those Who Pray Without Ceasing, and Even When You Don’t See Change, You Continue Praying! That’s LOVE!
