“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His Will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives” (Colossians 1:9 NIV)
When it came to those he loved, notice what Paul prayed for:
1. That They Would Understand the Will of God: “For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His Will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things” (AMP) Rome was not an easy place to be a Christian, yet Paul wrote: “Everyone has heard about your obedience…” (Romans 16:19 NIV). Obedience to God’s Will should be your number one priority! When your name is mentioned, no one should have any doubt as to the level of your commitment to Jesus! And that level of commitment is revealed through the Knowledge and Obedience of the Will of God. Therefore, while you’re praying for your loved ones, pray that they willKnow, Understand and Fulfill the Will of God! “Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is THE WILL OF GOD for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Meditator of that WILL]” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMP); “For it is GOD’S WILL and intention that by doing right [your good and honest lives] should silence (muzzle, gag) the ignorant charges and ill-formed criticisms of foolish persons” (1 Peter 2:15 AMP); “And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with GOD’S WILL” (Romans 8:27 AMP); “For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will and purpose but to do the WILL AND PURPOSE OF HIM WHO SENT ME. And this is the WILL OF HIM WHO SENT ME, that I should not lose any of all that He has given Me, but that I should give new life and raise [them all] up at the last day. For this is MY FATHER’S WILL AND HIS PURPOSE, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up [from the dead] at the last day” (John 6:38-40 AMP). You Cannot Say You Love Them And Not Desire To Pray the Will of God Be Done In, For and Through Their Lives!
2. That Their Lives Would Be Pleasing To God: “That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things…” (Colossians 1:10 AMP). When you stand before God to be rewarded you won’t hear the words “well said”, or “well planned, “ but, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21 NKJV) So when praying for those you love, make sure to include “Lord Help Them To Please You”! And how will they do this? By their Walk, Conduct and Mannerisms! Pray That They Don’t Just Use "I’m a Christian" as a Cliché, but That They Live It Out In Character and Conduct! “And saying, Repent (think differently; change your mind, regretting your sins and changing your conduct), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3:2 AMP); “Bear fruits that are deserving and consistent with [your] repentance [that is, conduct worthy of a heart changed, a heart abhorring sin]…” (Luke 3:8 AMP); “Let us live and conduct ourselves honorably and becomingly as in the [open light of] day, not in reveling (carousing) and drunkenness, not in immorality and debauchery (sensuality and licentiousness), not in quarreling and jealousy” (Romans 13:13 AMP) You Cannot Say You Love Them And Yet You’re Not Praying That They Conduct Themselves Better!
