Majesty in the Hebrew language July 24, 2007 7:49 PM

There are two words for majesty in Hebrew. One is the cloth of gold robes-crowns-septres that we well know in the west. It goes with kings and lords so well. But the word used in Psalm 8 is not that majesty. In Englilsh, we have the concept in sentences like "OH! What a Majestic sunset! Look at that mountain range; such majesty! It is that word for majesty to which the ancient Jewish writer was refering. Creation is majestic and the majesty of YHWH is found in the Creators Creation. It is not the power to exploit, but the ground of all Creation that is majestic. It is not the sparkle of jewelry but of the sun catching the water just righ conveys majestyt. It is not royal purple, red, or blue copes, but the breath-taking purple, red, or blue of the birds, of flowers, of sunsets that seizes our hearts and make us jaw-dropped mute with the awe of MAJESTY.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Another very interesting post. You are so knowledgeable. I was only able to learn Greek to read the New Testament. No Hebrew was offered. Lee  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
