Welcome, and thank you for following your curiosity... to New Knitters, All Knitters.  Whether you're new to knitting, new to this group, or new to Care2, I hope you'll pull up a chair (or rocker) and make yourself at home.  Some of us have lots of knitting experience and some of us, like me, have just a little.  We're all here to share the fun and joy of knitting and crocehting, and many of us want to participate in projects making gifts for those in need.

Please let us know how you heard about New Knitters, All Knitters.  And, once again, welcome!

Leslie

P.S.  Many thanks and green stars to everyone here for making this a great place to be.

Hi, I'm also a member of Crocheters and Knitters Worldwide and Crocheters Anonymous. I'm a crocheter, but it's my dream to learn how to knit.  I started a post about that.  I'm happy to be here, and happy to see this group.  Thanks for starting it! TamiMarie  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

If you would really like to learn to knit, I taught myself how and i am one who has to see it step by step to pick it up. I can find you some sites that will help you if you like. Just let me know and i will try to help you get started. The fist project you want to try is a scarf VERY easy and you can practice that way.

Hello all!  My name is Brenna and I am a new self-taught knitter.  I finished my first project (a scarf from Lionbrand Homespun for my mom's birthday) a few weeks ago and enjoyed it so much I have vowed to make all my holiday gifts this year.  Ambitious, I know.  I can already tell my favorite thing about knitting is going to be visiting yarn stores...I love to look at all the beautiful combinations of colors and feel the unique textures of the different fibers in my hands.  And to know that I'm making something useful and beautiful for someone that I love is just icing on the cake!  My skills are definitely lacking, but I'm anxious to learn and am so grateful that I found a great group of fellow crafts-women to bounce ideas off of and learn from.   [ send green star]  [ accepted]

anonymous Celebration! September 21, 2005 9:10 AM

Welcome to all the new members who've found us this summer. And now that fall is rolling in, I hope to be working on my projects with more enthusiasm and determination to finish : ) I've just started a second crocheted baby afghan that I can work on and alternate with the white cotton one I started in the spring! The new one is for my great-nephew, who is already about 18 months old! It's a very simple single crochet stitch in stripes with fringe on both ends. I hope to start knitting scarves for Christmas gifts soon too! Anyway, I'm glad you're all here. Please continue to share what you've learned and what you're working on. Be sure to mention whether or not you have photographs of your projects in your Care2 albums so we can take a look. Happy Wednesday! Leslie P.S. The Studio, a wonderful yarn shop in Kansas City, is sponsoring a knitted teddy bear project for children who've been affected by hurricane Katrina. The pattern is free and they're having a class on Sept. 28 to teach it. They say it's a good way to use your leftover yarn. I'll see if they have the pattern posted on their website.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Hi, my name is Jill. I have been married to Mark for almost nine years and we have a beautiful adopted son Justin who is four. We are the proud pet parents of Pancake (wild/domesticated) rabbit and Princess Baley, a daschund/cocker spaniel/? puppy.

I learned to crochet at 11 years old, but never really liked doing it. I taught myself to knit when my son was wearing cloth diapers and I needed a cheaper alternative for diaper covers. 100% wool, who knew??

I LOVE to knit. I also spin yarn on a beautiful Ashford spinning wheel, and dye my own fiber and yarn. I go to two differnet knitting groups and a spinning group every month (it is my only time to play with other adults!). I always have too many projects going on and am looking forward to sharing these with you all.

Thanks for letting me join!

Hi everybody, I'm Roberta. I'm a beginner knitter. Right now I make mostly scarves...my kids have like 4 each. I'm working on a blanket right now but it's not complicated at all.I'm interested in finding new patterns that aren't too hard. Most of the ones I find on the net are too complicated for me to figure out just yet.

Looking forward to talking to everyone!!

Greetings from Estonia October 31, 2005 7:02 AM

Hi, I'm Ulla from Estonia. I learned knitting when I was little child. My mom and grandma knitted very often and  I made my first scarfs, when I was 7! I have made numerous jumpers, scarfs, mittens, gloves, caps for all my family, relatives and for many friends too! Knitted things are always  best presents!

Hi, my fellow knitters!
I was just going through the Care2 groups checking what's going on - and knitting while at it. The thought of finding or founding a knitting group crossed my mind and I ended up here.
I haven't been knitting for a long time because crocheting has allways been closer to my heart than knitting. Anyhow, yesterday I decided to start a huge project: I'm going to knit a sweater! So far so good!
Something about me:
I'm a horticulture student from Finland. I study in Helsinki University. I tend to do most of my crocheting/knitting while I'm studying 'cause it helps me to concentrate.
No I'll go to take a look around the group!

Newbie signing in as ordered! December 24, 2005 9:13 PM

I found this group simply by scrolling through the existing groups looking for a knitting group that sounded right to me.  I am an experienced knitter...I learned to knit a LONG time ago  (I think it would have been in 1968, in Honolulu) and learn something new with every project I work through.  Sometimes what I learn is that I don't want to complete the project, but that's the exception.  Right now I am knitting a pair of purple socks for an elderly friend who is hospitalized and struggling with a circular lace shawl in a delightful heathered lilac lace-weight yarn.  I don't have all the answers by any means, but I would be happy to be used as a resource.  If I can help, I will.  Just let me know.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hello everyone December 27, 2005 11:39 PM

Hi I am Chris

Rarely to be found in a sitting position, without needles clicking away! I have been knitting for as long as I can remember!

Mainly these days it is fairisle and aran as I tend to get really bored with plain knitting. Usually sweaters but the odd hat etc. And to date 2 full length coats I am rather proud off!

Well just thought I would say hello!

I did post, about this on another group, but whilst I am here, anyone know where I can get my Rough Collie dog hair spun, preferably in the UK?

New to group February 21, 2006 7:19 PM

Hi!  I started knitting last year.  I have restricted my knitting to small projects (scarves, headbands, hats).  I don't really have the patience to stick with a larger project!   But, maybe someday.  Right now, the little bit of energy that I have left, after work, friends and family, goes to learning how to sew!  I just got a machine and I'm trying to reduce my feeling of intimidation towards it.

Take care,

Sarah

Hello everyone...

I am Crokus, and I only started knitting a few weeks ago... actually, I started crochet in november or december as a stress reliever, and then happened to get some needles presenting them selves to me... so I gave it a try, and I knitted my first and very simple scarf.

Then, I thought that I wanted this to be a little more challenging... (guess that it had to fit my life style... and that even while relaxing it had to be a challenge... lol) so I decided to learn how to knit socks... So I started browsing through the internet in search of some images that could clue me in as how to knit socks... and found some pretty interesting place... and now, I did finished my first pair of socks this week, and I want more... now, I want to learn 2 socks on one circular needle... (I first have to get the circular needle... lol)

I am already addicted to knitting... I think that crochet is not as interesting -to me.- and I get bored about it a bit... and I like how a knit looks like... consistent and solid, as opposed to "airy..." and not so uniform...

I know how to make those "gusset socks," and now I would love to make "short row socks..." (if I understand well, on the short rows we can remplace the heels and toes when they are worned out... )

I will take a picture this week of my beautyful socks, and post it up...

I am happy I "stumbled" accross this group...

(might not be here too often these days, I have a very hard time with my internet connection, and I have LOTS of "challenges" to deal with ... (that spells knitting while sitting and waiting for all those appointments I have to attend..  )

Hi, I'm Ruth, a 56 year old mom, grandmom, and soon-to-be great-mom!  I've been knitting for over 34 years and about the only things I haven't knitted are socks and mittens.  I learned to knit when I moved as a newlywed from New Mexico to Massachusetts.  I was having problems with my hands stiffening up in cold weather and the doctor suggested knitting as therapy.  When we moved back to New Mexico I found knitters were almost a non-existent species and knitting supplies hard to find.  Lack of pattern books led me to design and knit my own designs for both myself and my family.  In fact, I've done so much knitting that I've got "trigger finger" from knitting continental style.  I recently completed a "Feather & Fan" afghan for my soon-to-be born great grandson and am now knitting a baby bunting for him.  In addition to that, I'm also knitting a queen size afghan of my own design which will be my final fair exhibit; after that I'll become a judge since I'm the only one qualified to judge knitting!  Who wants to have their project judged by a crocheting judge??  Anyway, I'm happy to be a member of Care2 and this group!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi I am new here!! October 24, 2007 8:04 PM

Hi, my name is Cindy and I learned how to knit recently for two reasons.  One my Husband loves Harry Potter and wants the scarf so since I found a pattern I started to learn and two I started a new job at Hobby Lobby and I am in charge of the Needlework Department and I get a lot of people asking Knitting questions so I am trying to learn so I can help them better.  Well I look forward to learning more here!!!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hello October 30, 2007 8:41 AM

Hello, I'm Kate and I've been knitting on and off since I was about 10 years old. I've been knitting more seriously in the last year and I'm currently hooked on lace knitting and socks(preferably combined).

I've also recently learnt to crochet, after several failed attempts over the years.

I collect vintage knitting and crochet patterns and like adapting them.

I'm currently trying to reduce my stash which is taking over the house.

Bye,

Kate.

Thank you!

I'm very happy to be in this group, and look forward to reading all of the posts, learning from other knitters, and just being able to enjoy my passion for knitting, with others!

I've only been knitting for approx. 2 years, but it seems the more I do it, the more I love it!  My ultimate goal, is to one day be able to knit a sweater, but the thought of it, seems very daunting.  I love to knit scarves, and recently, have been knitting stocking caps for friends.  I have more yarn then I'll ever be able to use, but love finding good bargains on it, and seem to find more & more beautiful yarn out all the time!!

Knitting is such a meditative process for me, and the combination of working with lovely yarn, and creating something as I go, is quite addictive!

Hi I'm Tami December 26, 2007 5:59 PM

I taught myself to knit last year! Since then I have made 4 or 5 baby blankets, 6 scarfs, 1 afgan and over a dozen wash cloths. I just love knitting b/c it does not take much space and there is so much I can do with it! I am hoping soon to start making tank tops for myself but a bit worried, I know how to do square and rectangle items but something with holes can be tricky I'm sure. So if anyone has some easy bigenninger patterns please pass them along! I wish everyone the best in their knitting adventures! Tami  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi, I was a member here before, but I found I was so busy.  I pray this time, I can visit more and contribute more.  I couldn't knit last time I was a member, so I sort of felt out of place.  However, after I spent time trying to knit on and off during all of 2006, I finally got it last Jan. 07!  I was just so tired of sitting down to knit, dropping my needles, not being able to cast on, UGH!  So, I prayed and prayed to get something right about knitting.  I know it might sound funny, but last Jan., I just sat down, picked up my needles and yarn, watched my CDRom again, and started knitting.  I couldn't believe it!  I called everyone I could think of to say, "I'M KNITTING, I'M REALLY KNITTING!"  Garter st was easy.  Purl st. felt a bit awkward at first, but now, I have both stitches down pat after practicing with dishclothes and scarves.  I just sent the first scarf I ever made to a friend who is a captain in the Navy.  It had been in my completed projects for almost a year now, and I sure am glad it's getting used.  I'm so glad he liked it.  Now, I hope to learn to knit socks on circulars.  That's the reason I wanted to learn to knit in the first place, to knit socks.  Patience, patience!  I taught myself to knit as you can see, but this sock thing sure does trip me up.  But I'm not giving up without a good fight!  Please do give my regards to Leslie!  It's so nice to meet all of you. I'm Debbie, I live in Wales, UK. I used to knit and crochet a lot when I was in my teens and when I first got married and had children. For some reason about 16 years ago I stopped. Recently the bug got me again so now I'm relearning all the skills and wondering why I wasted so many years.

Hi all, I'm Melissa and have been knitting for a few years, but never seemed to have gotten past scarves, hats and afghans. I also machine knit and spin.

I love the texture of the fiber (natural or man-made) and the flow of knitting.

My philosophy is each one - teach one.

What kind of item did you want to knit on circulars? You could try some socks? I can do them on 2 circs, not quite mastered the magic loop technique...yet!

I think I remember seeing some nice tops on Knitty that were done in the round on circs.

hello December 28, 2008 4:11 PM

Hello Everyone,

I'm very excited to be part of a knitting group...in fact, I'd like to start a knit/crochet group at a local library, but for now, this is nice.    I've been knitting for about 31 years. I learned from my grandmother when I was about 8yo. My grandmother, being left handed...I didn't learn much more than knit and purl. Just this past fall I decided to teach myself some new stitches, as it's been a dream of mine to knit my own mittens, hats, socks and eventually a sweater! This fall, I've knitted two pairs of fingerless mitts, and one pair of 'convertables' (knitted mitts with button on mitten toppers). I love love love knitting in the round and am now in the middle (literally, one done and one to go) of my first pair of mittens.  I'd, one day, like to have my own sheep (I adore them, esp black faced, gray wooled ones) and learn how to harvest wool, clean it, card it, spin it, and knit something with it. In the meantime...I hope to learn alot from all of you! Thanks so much...Lisa
