ADVOCACY: Teacher joins as class bullies 13 yr old boy

This thread is for the advocacy of the 13 year-old boy who was bullied by classmates and the class teacher in Gig Harbor, Washington.

FACTS:

  • victim: 13 year-old boy
  • where: Gig Harbor's Kopachuk Middle School (Gig Harbor, Washington, USA)
  • when: February 2012, around 9 am
  • aggressors: teacher, John Rosi and boy's fellow classmates (about a dozen)
  • incident took place for about 15 minutes long
  • Caught on film by fellow students
  • boy became suicidal according to his parents
  • fellow eighth-graders swung him from his arms and legs, wrote on his feet, stuck a traffic cone on his head, gagged him with his own sock and taunted him, put a pillow over his face, locked him under chair(s), teacher threatened to sit on him saying "I feel gassy", etc.

  • "Rosi, a 14-year-veteran of the school was suspended for 10 days without pay, given training and then eventually moved to another school."
  • "According to the Tacoma News Tribune his base salary as of 2010 was $64,174, with approximately $10,000 more for coaching duties."

  • Cuzetto said the teacher displayed 'inappropriate classroom management,' but the district decided against firing the teacher because of his 'body of work' over an 18-year teaching career in the district."

  • Pierce County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the complaint and seeking records of the school district’s investigation, said detective Lynelle Anderson, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
  • The boy is now attending a private school. He is now 14 yrs old.
  • The teacher wrote a letter of apology to the school district saying he viewed the incident was "child's horseplay".
