Life viewpoint March 10, 2011 4:25 PM

I just got back from a trip to New Orleans, my favorite place in the world.  I love it for its spirit of fun and celebration...and have always marvelled at the New Orleans funerals, with mourning on the way to the cemetery and a joyous party/street parade afterward.  Finally read something that brought that perspective home...the service and the trip to the cemetery are sad and mournful, because we are grieving the loss of a person/part of ourselves that we can never regain.  But then, after the body is laid to rest, we can celebrate that life goes on and we are a part of it.  The loss is still there, but others call to us and need us as part of their lives...so let us celebrate life while we are here, always carrying our lost loved ones with us so that they are a part of the celebration of our life...

Having survived the various April Fools Day pranks, I am now looking forward to Easter and its message of rebirth and reunion (for those who believe in the Christian faith).  What a glorious message for those of us missing our loved ones!!!
