Action: CLEAR ACT and Your Hybrid Car June 10, 2005 7:34 PM

CLEAR ACT a true incentive for a clean car future Sen. Orin Hatch (R-Utah) recently reintroduced the CLEAR ACT (S.971)—legislation to provide performance-based tax incentives for the purchase of advanced vehicle and fuel technology. The legislation would provide up to a $4,000 consumer credit for hybrid and alternative fuel cars and light trucks, scaled by the level of advanced technology and fuel economy. However, the House of Representatives passed an Energy Bill that focuses incentives on diesel technology that produces 4-10 times more smog forming pollution than current hybrids. Ask your Senators to cosponsor the CLEAR ACT as a sensible, forward-thinking incentive package for better, cleaner cars.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Global Warming: Put Your Hybrid Where Your Mouth Is House and Senate members talk the talk about saving energy but what are they doing about it? A recent article in U.S. News & World Report says fifteen members drive a gas saving hybrid car: eight Democrats, six Republicans, and one independent. "I get 32, 33, sometimes 34 miles per gallon," Rep. Jeb Bradley, a New Hampshire Republican, said about his Ford Escape Hybrid. "I'm really stoked about that." Find out who's zipping around Washington in a hybrid car.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
