What DON'T you like about your hybrid? June 13, 2005 6:25 PM

Let's give an honest view to prospective buyers. I know we all LOVE our hybrids, but I for one have little problems with our Pruis. My main (minor) complaint is that when driving at night the console lighting is reflected in the windshield so that there is a green glare in the middle of my driving view. This doesn't bother my husband, so it may be a height difference.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I don't like the material that covers the seats, that's about it. I would have to say is if Toyota came out with a small pickup hybrid, I'd trade my prius in in a second!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I love my Civic Hybrid but one thing really bugs me. Since the engine and the motor rotate together, it is necessary to start the gas engine for even the smallest movement. Pull into a parking place, stop a little too soon, the engine shuts off as it is supposed to do, then to move the last two feet it must start again. I understand the Prius doesn't have this problem. But I have nearly 60,000 miles on it and gas mileage is still improving! Can't beat that.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
windshield reflection June 17, 2005 8:08 PM

Elizabeth, My 2002 Prius does this, too, but there is a dial low and left of the steering wheel that lets you dim the display so it doesn't glare on the windshield. I think most cars have this, if you own a different model it may be located elsewhere. What bugs me most about my Prius is the sun shades. They just don't block the sun when its low and at the far left (at a most annoying/dangerous angle). I drive south when the sun is rising so I get this a lot. Guess I need to build an extension or something. Phil  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Prius June 18, 2005 6:31 PM

We have a 2005 Prius, and I only have two minor complaints about it. I don't like that when the windows have been 'locked' by the driver, that the driver also loses control over the window functioning. I lock them so my kids can't put them down, but if I need to put my own down I have to unlock them all, enabling my children to put theirs down at the same time. The second minor thing is that I wish the doors would lock automatically when the car is put into gear. I have to remember to do so once I've started driving. Shortly after purchasing our Prius in March we had to replace the battery. It kept dying for no apparent reason, but the dealership replaced it at no cost. We haven't had any problems since then.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I don't have a Prius so I'm not sure, but I suggest you read the owners manual carefully about the door locks. Most cars have several options for how the locks work and you can change the option by some sequence. Good luck.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
future improvements June 23, 2005 3:43 AM

I'd like to be able to use a roof rack and tow hitch with my 2004 prius. It would be nice to carry or haul small things. Perhaps by the time I'm ready to replace it, the highlander hybrid will be more affordable.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Shifter Handle July 06, 2005 3:02 PM

Hi! I'm new to posting to this group--been lurking for a bit and reading past threads. My wife's car is a 2002 Prius. We both just love it. About the only thing I dislike is the transmission shifter handle coming out of the panel just to the right of the steering wheel. The position was a little awkward at first, but I got used to it. The thing I don't like about it is that it blocks my line of sight to the left portion of the control panel in the middle of the dash, specifically audio on/off button and the AM/FM button and the tuning/next track/previous track buttons. I understand that the new model (2004+) has a much smaller shifter that is closer to the dash, which I look forward to trying when I replace my old Ford Taurus station wagon with a new red Prius so we'll be a two-hybrid family!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Darryl that's the disadvantage of the partial hybrids. You're correct, the Prius doesn't that that problem because it is (the only) full hybrid. Although I am jealous because you're part-hybrid Civic gets better milage than my '01 Civic.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
