hello dear people,
recently i came across few articles on a web that claim that it is possible by means of electricity to separate water into hydrogen and oxigen, and then use the liberated hydrogen as a fuel instead or in addition to common fossil fuels in order to achieve greater milage and lesser the polution.
i have a limited knowledge in chemistry to be able to judge these websites, articles and claims.
i was hoping that some of you might know more then me, or know someone else (may be even someone who actually tryied and succeded) who possibly can point me in the right direction.
thank you all in advance and have a peaceful day
sasha

There is difficulty and danger in separating hydrogen out of water, then compressing it and storing it to use as fuel in vehicles that are prone to violent crashes. The recent exciting claim is that hydrogen can be separated inexpensively on the fly by using vibration and / or magnetism. If the hydrogen can be generated on the fly, then very little has to be stored, so it does not have to be compressed and the danger is reduced significantly. The major remaining drawback, if the claim is true, would be corrosion of metals. That problem can be worked around, but not by the typical driver.

Here is an interesting video re/ Jimmy Klein's car he runs on water: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE4wRBu5dnU
And one on Stan Meyers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et004X1ir3k
I understand that Stan Meyers was offered an enormous sum of money to sell his patents. He refused. As I recall the story, at a restaurant in Grove City, Ohio he jumped up from the table, yelled that he had been poisoned, and ran out into the parking lot where he died. You can Google search this story for more information.
