I received the following email from Ford. March 20, 2005 4:53 AM

After sending out the petition, I received the following email from Ford: Dear Customer, Thank you for your email. We're excited about our new Escape Hybrid, too - about delivering a vehicle that's fuel-efficient and that customers love. In fact, we are looking at ways of increasing production of the Escape Hybrid to meet demand. You may be interested to know that we are strengthening our commitment to hybrid technology by expanding our lineup to include five models on the road in three years. Four new hybrids will join the Escape Hybrid. The expanded hybrid lineup includes: o Mercury Mariner and Milan, with production of the Mariner pulled ahead for sale later this year; o Ford Fusion, which will be on the road within three years; and o A test fleet of Mazda Tributes this year and production within two years. However, we plan to go beyond hybrids. We are investing significant resources to advance and demonstrate hydrogen vehicle technologies, such as fuel cells and hydrogen internal-combustion engines. Florida will be the first customer for hydrogen powered Ford E-450 buses will debut in 2006. And Dallas-Fort Worth Airport is working with us on plans for fleet use of our V-10, hydrogen-powered buses next year. My great-grandfather's vision was to provide affordable transportation for the world. I want to expand that vision for the 21st century and provide transportation that is affordable in every sense of the word - socially and environmentally, as well as economically. It is interesting... March 20, 2005 4:27 PM

That's good news, but why does Ford only do these things after some other company begins to have success with it? It's been six years since the Honda Insight was introduced, and almost as many for the Prius, in America. Honda has already released multiple models of hybrid. Ford is way behind, and I think customers should show them that they won't tolerate that by not buying their vehicles until they do something proactive and innovative.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Beautiful! March 21, 2005 6:55 AM

I agree that Ford has been slow, but I think it's great that it's finally kicking into "gear"! I especially love the idea of the eco-friendly buses! ~Michelle  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
