Double your Care2 clicks! September 11, 2006 12:15 AM

or more.

First, don't use the 'Remember Me' function of login. Yes, it means you have to login everytime you come here, and every time you login you have to uncheck the Remember Me. But it also means when you first arrive, you are anonymous and can click the races to donate.

Then you login and click again. To make this easier, I have set the page to open after login as the Donate page. [on My Page click 'Edit your basic info' and just after password and security is the 'Post-Login Page' and a drop down list to choose from]

The anonymous clicks won't bring you butterflys, or contribute to your race statistics. If you have good security on your system that masks your computer ID, you can return and click anonymously as often as you like. If the site recognizes your computer it will give you the message 'According to our records, you have clicked already today', rather than the 'You have already clicked today!' you get when you are logged in.

Also, it is a good idea to go to the sponsers' sites occassionaly, as that is why they are willing to make the donations. I usually do this while in anonymous mode.

Have fun!

Thank you Nancy!

I recently discovered another trick to make this process easier. If you are sure you want to not use the remember me feature you can disable it.

At your profile page go to edit basic info [again]. Below Password is Security with a link that says Heightened Security. Clik that and check to enable heightened security. There is info on that page about what this means. Be sure to press 'Record Setting' to save. Even tho the remember me box will still appear to be checked, it will not work.
- one less step to the login process!

Double Your Care 2 Clicks December 11, 2006 8:20 AM

This is an excellent idea.  Thanks for it.

Also - does anyone know if it is possible to install donate buttons on one's personal page?

Cheers,

Craig

Most of the 'Thank you' pages of the Races have many interesting links on them. Somewhere among them [such as Questions], you can usually find your way to the "
Click-to-Donate Race Logos & Links", but this is the quick way.

I also want to draw your attention to the Daily Action page. They provide lots of great links to eco info and such. Also, sometimes you get extra butterflys for clicking them. Another feature that is easily missed is the 'My Success Journal' link that should be found in the upper right of the Daily Action page. The journal lists the last 10 daily actions and gives you a chance to catch up if you missed any in that period.

This is a great idea and I have been doing it for several days now. Maybe someone who knows more about computers than I do can explain how this works - I don't understand why being logged in or not would make a difference as to whether the site would recognize my computer or not?

Hi Laura,
Well, there are two different aspects to the issue of recognition. Firstly, we log in to the site with our passwords so that C2 can serve us the pages that are specific to us, like our accounts, and so that they can track our participation in the races, by sending us butterflys.

However, even if we are not logged in to C2, they still need to track visitors, to a certain extent. Particularly with the races, their contracts with sponsors, I believe, require that they prevent excessive clicking by individuals. The sponsors want exposure to a wider audience, not just a few who click many times a day.
Anyway, Each computer has an IP [Internet Protocol] address that is used to identify it on the internet. The races will track which IP addresses are used to click without being logged in. If you try to click again, they give you the message "thanks, you have already clicked today."

However, some computer security systems can get around this by generating new IP addresses frequently while you surf the web. This is why I hinted that it may be possible to click even more than twice a day.

Also, I should point out that if you do two Daily Actions in one day [as well as the races], you get an extra butterfly! You must be logged in to do the Daily Actions, so use your 'Success' journal to check for previous actions.

I hope this made sense, if not, please let me know!

Peace, Teil

Teil-

I know about IPs and everything, I just thought - a computer has the same IP whether or not someone's logged in, so why would it count both sets of clicks? But I guess when you're logged in it tracks you by your login info, not your IP address.

Not that it really matters. I just noticed that I hadn't gotten any new butterflies in a few days, and I wondered if it was because it wasn't counting my clicks after I logged in, because I had already clicked those days while I wasn't logged in. But I got all the butterflies after, so obviously  it's working.

"But I guess when you're logged in it tracks you by your login info, not your IP address."
Exactly!
They have to credit you with Clicks done while logged in, regardless of whether you clicked while not logged in. However, I think that if you click while logged in, then log out and click again [not having clicked anonymously that day] you will probably get the 'Our records show you have already clicked today' message, because they recorded that your IP was used to click already.

About the missing butterflys - it seems that sometimes they make a detour to some luscious meadow for some extra nectar before settling into our in-boxes Unfortunately, both the PM and Group Email delivery systems occasionally suffer glitches. Generally tho, as soon as someone reports the missing butterflys, it gets fixed. Group Email is a little more complicated, and the engineers are working hard toward a stable solution.

Peace, Teil

There are ISPs that use randomly generated IPs each time a person logs on, so they are NOT using the same IP.  This was a big issue a while ago when Care2 banned a trouble maker.  They kept creating new profiles.  When people asked Care2 to just block that person's IP they said that they couldn't, as it could cause other users to be inadvertently banned also.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I have done it both ways, it doesn't matter which you do first.

I think it's stealing October 27, 2007 2:41 PM

I won't do this, it is dishonest, and I am surprised by the responses.  We have these marvelous sponsers donating their money and you want to scam them?  Make no mistake, this is a scam.  I would think the sponsers would be pulling out, and rightfully so.  Would you do this on your taxes?  Would you steal your neighbors dog food?  Do you steal from your job?  Am I the only one that finds this sort of thing distateful?  Shame on you  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi Juanita,
The Donate pages are designed so that even people who are not Care2 members are able to click. So they have no problem with anonymous clicking. When I click anonymously, I do not benefit from it, but the causes do.

I feel that if the sponsors are going to pull out, it is because of the pitiful numbers of clickers. With 7,000,000 members, the causes are lucky to get 15,000 clicks a day! That is sad. Of those 15,000 how many do you suppose click on the sponsors' ads? That would be a good reason to pull your financial support, if you were a sponsor, don't you think?
That's just my view.

Peace, Teil

I try to click every day, and I agree that the numbers I've seen do seem shameful.  In reality It maybe just a reflection of how many actual users there are.  How about an incentive program?

How many e cards go out?   Maybe an e card charge?  1 click 1 card.  Maybe a click week.  Instead of the word donate, click to save.  In this economy money is very tight, and donate is a word a lot of people back off on.  Personally I have had to back off on donations I've been making, and that's just the way it is.

I have joined a couple of groups and will blog the donate cause,

as far as the sponsers are concerned it's a tax deduct and that's good for them.  We've got some thinkers on here, let's come up with some ideas.

Hi Juanita!
You have some good ideas there. Now that there is a Suggestion Box on the Daily Action page, perhaps you can submit those.
About the Ecards, though, they already generate support for causes, just by being sent. I think its the same for using Care2 email too. Honestly, tho, I haven't checked lately just how those work.
I also put some of the Race buttons on my Profile billboard.

Peace, Teil
