Smilin' 6-12-month-old lab/shep mix needs home! Harrisonburg, VA but will travel June 21, 2005 3:58 PM
Here's the big baby I helped rescue from the most terrible shelter I've ever seen, in Louisburg, NC. (For euthanasia, they use a HOMEMADE GAS CHAMBER. ) We pulled the dog and had him transported to VA to be close to a shelter we were told he could go to, but...it fell through. Everybody seems to fall through for this dog!
Info:
Labrador Retriever,Shepherd Mix
Size: Medium
Age: Young adult/6-12 months
Sex: Male
Notes: He has been fully vetted. He seems to have had some type of skin allergy, which he has been put on pills for--NOT mange.Heartworm-NEGATIVE.He is very friendly and loves people.Apparently black dogs are just not as popular (?) in Louisburg, so he was very much on doggie death row. Will this dog ever get a BREAK?!He is in central VA now but I WILL ARRANGE OR PAY FOR TRANSPORT to get him to a nice home.He deserves it. I have more photos. Please contact me.
Dog & Cat rescuer in Troy. March 31, 2005 11:59 PM
I am a crazy green (ecologist)witch, own my 2 solar powered townhouses in historic Lansingburg,NY. I enjoy my job in law enforcement, work at a large university, and have always cared for animals of all sizes and most species.
To that end I have a cat door to my heated basement, leading through a mud room, with a separate cat door onto my enclosed back porch. Both areas are used to give free food and shelter to stray cats who come and go as they wish. They must follow the trail to the cat doors, as I have both semi-permanent lodgers and new cat visitors daily. Dogs are coming into my life as well.
In a few days I'll become a foster care giver to a rescued greyhound, from a local group who seeks retired racers. My goal is to acclimate the dogs to family life, so they'll be more successful in their new lives as pets. These beautiful dogs are run until they can't run anymore. At the track, they may be kept in crates for up to 23 hours per day. And they are gorgeous, high-strung and eager to please people, for the most part. i'm looking forward to the new experience, and have a network of dog-lovers to ask advice of Wish me luck on my new enterprise!
