SEX OFFENDERS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD November 16, 2005 6:03 PM

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this...but I just want to let as many people as possible know what is in their neighborhoods. This could help protect our children. It is a scary, though to find out you have a sex offender or child molester close to you.

Go to the link at bottom, click on it and enter your address...it will show your "house" ... all the little colored boxes Are Sex Offenders... click on them and you get a name, address & picture of the person along with their crime... pretty amazing and scary...it shows you where they live in proximity to your home and the local schools.

Looks like we have a lot of the same groups Marsha. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I work with SO's and well-meaning neighbors can wreak havoc on the innocent, as well as the guilty.

While I agree with the public's right to know, I also do not want to see people panic. I have worked with SO's (sex offenders) in my practice, and the law does not differentiate between an 18yo boy who had a 15 yo girlfriend, and a 40yo man who raped 2 years olds. Believe me the difference is HUGE! I would hate to see some man who made a mistake as a boy, and the girls parents pressed charges, get run out of his house, harassed by neighbors who don't know the story. Now if the man really was a child molester, then I want to know it, but please be aware that unless you research the case, they may not be the monster you fear they are.

just some thoughts November 16, 2005 7:10 PM

I agree. We do need protection from true dangers, such as the older male/female who rapes a child, while at the same time not panicking nor causing others to panic and harm the innocent or even an unintended target. So, I thank you, Marsha, for presenting this topic so that we can discuss it more fully as it is a very important issue, and I thank you, Lorelei, for your skill, expertise, and wisdom.

Too many who have been convicted for sexually related crimes but who have not harmed children still get labeled, harrassed, beaten, and even killed due to indiscriminant vigilante-ism turned into laws which are then arbitrary.

I Truly Agree November 19, 2005 3:26 PM

with both of you.  I never intended harm to anyone.  The system needs to be changed so that people whose only "crime" was being 18 with a 16 year old girlfriend.  There are  others wrongly labeled, also, I'm sure.   I wish we had a better way of seperating them but until the system changes, this is all we have.  I hope that this doesn't not cause anyone harm....my intent was only to try and help protect the innocent.

Hugs, Marsha

Thanks, Marsha. I know what you mean. We really need a system change or even tweeking in so many ways, and this is one of the many reasons. So, we work the best we can with what we have, right? But, even this, as bad as some of the unintended consequneces can be, is better than what went before it, imho.

Again, I thank you for bringing it up so it can be discussed.
