Thank you John November 23, 2005 7:06 AM

John, thank you so much for your response and sending Reiki.  I was not personally close to Chris.  I only met him once but his grandmother is my favorite person in the family.  This is a branch of my grandmother's family that we rarely saw but I am so sad for them and feel their pain and confusion.  When I think of them, I feel like I'm almost there.

Suicide is such a terrible thing for those remaining on earth to heal from.  There was no note or anything to explain his choice.  I'm so very sad for them and for Chris.  He must have been so terribly unhappy and lost to do something like this.

It's strange because I was looking for suicide support groups here on care2 on Sunday.  I only found support for parents who've lost children or  those contemplating it themselves.  I wonder if he might have been looking for help at the same time.  I feel so strange knowing that I was looking to help my friend, whose father was a suicide years ago, and at that very moment, Chris was leaving us through the same terrible means.

I wish I could have helped him.

In these times Lisa, I guess just remembering what you had written for "What gives me hope" in your profile will help in some way.

Thoughts and prayers,

john

Suicide occurs almost twice as often as homicide. In 2002, more than 30,000 Americans committed suicide. In the United States:

Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people ages 15 to 24.

  • White men commit suicide more often than any other group.
  • Suicide rates are higher in the western states than in the rest of the country.
  • Unemployment increases the number of suicides.
  • A gun is used in almost 3 of every 5 suicides.
  • Suicide rates increase with age and are very high among people older than age 65.

Only about 1 out of every 40 people who attempt suicide die. Women try suicide more often, but men are 4 times more likely to die from a suicide attempt.

Many people have fleeting thoughts of death. Fleeting thoughts of death are less of a problem and are much different from actively planning to commit suicide. Your risk of committing suicide is increased if you think about death and killing yourself often, or if you have made a depression or other mental health illness, such as schizophrenia

  • An alcohol or drug problem (Warning signs of suicide in teens and young adults may include preoccupation with death or suicide or a recent breakup of a love relationship.
  • Warning signs of suicide in older adults may include the recent death of a partner or diagnosis of a life-limiting illness.
  • Anytime someone talks about suicide or about wanting to die or disappear, even in a joking manner, the conversation must be taken seriously. A suicide attempt—even if the attempt did not harm the person—also must be taken seriously. Don't be afraid to talk to someone you think may be considering suicide. There is no evidence that talking about suicide leads to suicidal thinking or suicide. Once you know the person's thoughts on the subject, you may be able to help prevent a suicide.

People who have suicidal thoughts may not seek help because they feel they cannot be helped. This usually is not the case. Many people with suicidal thoughts have medical conditions that can be successfully treated. People who have suicidal thoughts often have depression or substance abuse; both of these conditions can be treated. It is important to seek help when suicidal thoughts occur because medical treatment usually is successful in diminishing these thoughts.

The possibility of suicide is most serious when a person has a plan for committing suicide that includes:

    • Having the means, such as weapons or medications, available to commit suicide or do harm to another person. Nearly 3 out of every 5 suicides is committed with a firearm.
    • Having set a time and place to commit suicide.
    • Thinking there is no other way to solve the problem or end the pain.

People who are considering suicide often are undecided about choosing life or death. With compassionate help, they may choose to live.

Please send reiki February 27, 2008 8:56 PM

My daughter has bipolar and unfortunately that's something which doesn't exactly go away. (Technically, I know how to heal and often cure this, but of course, my own kid is not interested in anything mom has to say. ha) Anyhow.... here is her info: Name: VishnuPriya (she Goes by "Priya" pronounced Pree-yah) Last Name Toro. Skin/Hair/Eyes Olive skin tho light in the winter, brown hair and eyes. Height:5' 5 1/2", Age: 33 y.o, (pushing 34) REASON: Bipolar predominately Manic, some OCD (thoughts get "stuck" in head), some psychosis if she goes off meds. She takes them on and off, tho better about it lately but still does it. Tries to tell me she's on them when its obvious even over the phone that she is not. Anyway.... she has scary attraction to men who would exploit her, authoritarian men too (who IMHO would bully her at best). The good guy she finds boring. She has a daughter so please send energy that Priya does not fall prey to this type of man. She does need a new man in her life, but please, one who is a good guy! Also she has hormonal imbalance, may her doc be open to testing her for that. (He's very close minded to anything alternative at all.) May her brain/synapses, mend & connect. May she take meds daily. Probably other things but the bottom line is she needs to take her meds and may her brain start to grow and mend. [I have scientific facts this is possible, but as you know with reiki many things can be possible anyway. ] Please keep her in your prayers, on your healing list, etc etc share with other healers, etc. Please. Thank you very much for reading this.

    Bipolar February 28, 2008 9:37 AM

Priitaa, I will add her to our list. I can really relate. I have a very dear old friend, I can't describe how close we are, who is seriously bipolar. She has a number of serious physical diseases as well, mostly immune system related and potentially deadly, aggravated by stress which of course is frequent. Bipolar meds often have very annoying side effects but worse, in her case none have worked for extended lengths of time, a year or two MAYBE. She also has a penchant for very controlling men, even abusive men. 2 bad marraiges including a cracked skull, an 8 year relationship with a violent paranoid alcoholic finally ended about a year ago. I tell you I have done everything I can. I have had temporary successes, I can get her calmed down and able to sleep, I can help with pain, but the underlying issues cut so deep and honestly she has never been ready to heal in a more complete way. Sometimes I can feel what she accepts and what is blocked. She denies it but it's very clear. There are books on why people dont heal and shes a textbook case. I think we are getting closer. I try to work as much on early life issues and past life issues as on the current symptoms. I work a lot on self esteem too, with reiki and with conversation. On several forums I have tried to get people discussing what they have done with serious psych problems but I get very few responses and no good suggestions. Maybe somebody eles here has worked on problems like ours. I also understand that she will probably not listen to you and you may have trouble being effective. I can't seem to work well on my own wife or child. But one thing you can do is continue working on yourself. Stay strong, healthy, and focused so you can be as supportive as possible for her. with Love and Light be well Michael
