links to get you started April 02, 2005 12:01 AM

Solar cooking is NOT a new idea. The first recorded use, http://www.solarcooking.org/saussure.htm ,was in the 1700's. Here's a few more links to get you started. http://www.solarcooking.org Solar Cooking International http://www.journeytoforever.org/sc_link.html Solar Cooking Links from JourneyToForever http://www.sunoven.com/villager.asp A solar oven big enough for a whole village http://www.mueller-solartechnik.de/koch_eng.htm Solar cooking in Germany  [ send green star]

Totally Shmoopie! April 11, 2005 12:51 PM

These links were pretty good. The one with all the plans was the best. For some reason it never occured to me to build a solar cooker. I've made sun tea, and I use my car to dehydrate vegetables in the summer (and my radiator in the winter) but never took this next step. I think maybe I'll make one with my huband. Do you know any bread recipies that work with solar ovens?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

solar bread April 12, 2005 8:43 PM

The simplest bread for solar cooking is banana nut bread, or any of the JIFFY brand mixes. I really like the banana nut when cooked in little clear glass custard cups because you, and your audience, can what it bubbling up and the flavor is just wonderous. Very important -- make sure you cover any breads or cookies because solar cooking will dry them out by cooking off the oils and moisture. If you go to http://www.solarovens.org, they provide a great cookbook.  [ send green star]

a little more action April 14, 2006 7:37 AM

Get so busy on other stuff that I don't get back here very often. Really surprised to see we are up to 8 members, so i guess I must get to doing a better hosting job. Reactivated this thread cause these are still some of the best links. Be sure to explore deeper. For instance, solarcooking.org has recipes, good info on pasteurizing(?) water, sources of ready-made ovens, etc  [ send green star]
