Dilmah - fair trade tea? November 02, 2005 4:52 PM

I had been thinking of tracking down some fair trade tea when I checked the leaflet at the bottom of my Dilmah box and found a lot of the history of tea in Australia, including exploitation of farmers - right up to the tsunami. The blurb claims that Dilmah is fair trade tea and can be purchased with a clear conscience.  [ send green star]

Does it really say it is exploiting farmers?  Are they still doing it now?  A funny way of advertising the product!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Sorry, they were claiming other tea brands were exploiting farmers in third world countries, and producing tea that wasn't up to scratch.  [ send green star]

Dilmah has started a TV advertising campaign based on being fair trade tea.  [ send green star]

Speaking for my taste-buds sake only May 18, 2006 12:05 AM

I drink Nothing But Dilmah Tea.

I believe it is mostly ethically marketed and sold.

As for the "taste test" - i love it, i'm pretty chemical sensitive and the teabags don'y even taste bad. The tea always tastes "fresh as well.
AND No - i don't work for Dilmah (Nor an i related to anyone)

I used to drink Twinings Earl Grey but switched recently on account of the taste. I didn't read about the ethical issues till after.  [ send green star]
