Vbac April 18, 2005 11:42 AM

I hope it is okay to start a new discussion I have a question I really need some answers to if any one has some.My husband and I are hoping to have more children but against my wishes my first birth was c-section.I felt very betrayed by my mid-wife she did not do anything naturally as we had discussed which after some research I beleive the c-section would not have been nessesary if I had not been given pain meds, been induced, and had my water broken , but I trusted her.I was told I will never have a baby naturally because my pelvis is too small; however my mother was told the same thing and had 3 girls naturally. After working OB in ahospital I have found Dr's dont like to do VBACs because of the risk of uterine rupture but I still beleive labor is a natural process and my body can handle it even after being chopped open. So, before I get pregnant again I hope to find others who have had a Vbac or get some more information on the subject. Thanks so much!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Thank you for starting a new topic! It's a great topic, too! I'm sorry you didn't get to have the kind of birth you wanted the first time. What kind of midwife did you have? Was she a nurse-midwife? I'd definitely go with someone else next time. Someone who respects the natural process. The good news is that VBAC is statistically safer than repeat c-section. And the risk of uterine rupture is no greater for a vbac than it is for any other birth. The only thing you have to watch out for is to make sure that they donít give you any cytotec or pitocin or any other labor-enhancement drug, because that CAN cause uterine rupture. This is a good website: If you do a google search for "VBAC" you will find lots more resources.  [ send green star]

Thank you so much for the link to the ICAN site.It has really motivated me to find some one who will carry out my wishes. My mid-wife was a nurse-midwife,but I work in nursing so I thought if I made it clear I wanted a natural birth and we discussed it in depth it would happen that way.Perhaps a Doula would be a good idea for my next delivery.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Definitely get a doula! I can't believe I forgot to say that before.  [ send green star]
