How does your child signal that s/he wants to breastfeed? June 03, 2005 7:36 AM

My daughter used to use the ASL sign for milk. Now she says "May I please have mommy milk?" My son is not subtle. He sticks his arm down my shirt! *LOL*  [ send green star]
she's pretty direct June 05, 2005 2:57 PM

My daughter grabs and handful and says "have titty!" isn't that horrible? I lived with a good friend for a while while she was tiny, and my friend's kids always called it that when they were nursing babies. So I got stuck with it.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
like a puppy dog... June 07, 2005 9:04 AM

My son is 8 months old, and when I ask him if he "wants milky" he starts whimpering like a dog!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

"gook gook, mama, peeeeze"

Lillianna is almost 20 months, and she often likes to just pull my shirt up.

...we don't get out much!! LOL

My boy is 15 months and has started pulling at my shirt and saying "moo" !!  Yeah, makes me feel like a cow!  This is the 1st kid that I haven't used the word "booby" for offering milk.  I thought saying "nurse" or "Milk" was a step up, but here I am with moo!  (You know I love it!)   [ send green star]  [ accepted]
asking to nurse June 16, 2005 12:00 PM

My son is 18 months old and he says "Goo gook".I have no clue where he got it from but when he first started saying it before he could talk he would grunt it.It is so funny because no one but close family has a clue what he means so they laugh and go on.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I think it's interesting that "gook" is a common primary sound for wanting to nurse.  It's sort of a swallowing sound- I wonder if that's the common basis for it?  I bet there are lots more babies out there calling for 'gook'.  I think it's pretty cool!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Mama's June 23, 2005 7:47 AM

My oldest (now 10) called it "Ninnys" - not very subtle when's he was reaching his hand down my shirt. With my yongest (3 and still going strong) I got smarter. She asks for "Mamas." No one has a clue even when she's patting my chest that she isn't asking for Mommy (which I guess she really is after all). Although she does have a habbit of telling people that "My mommy has mamas and I suck on them, like this...." while making little sucking noises and cupping an imaginary breast between her hands. Yeah, my dad got a kick outta that one - LOL! Lately she's started asking for "Mama Juice" - not sure why she choose juice over milk tho?
