Welcome New Members to Our Group May 27, 2007 4:12 PM

Thank you so much for the welcome. Our daughter, Mary, has been "out" for about 2 months now. I can't say that it wasn't a shock to me. Her step dad, on the other hand, has suspected something for a while now. I guess, in hind sight, I did as well. I don't know if I was just in denial or just blind. Mary's dad does not know any of this. He is VERY closed minded and he and Mary are no longer in a good place in their relationship so she does not feel good saying anything to him for fear that he will shun her. That is so sad. I'm just grateful that Mary & I are close enough to where she feels she can come to us and let us know. At her age, we don't know if this is a passing thing or permanent but I *DO* know that she is my baby and she will always have my unwavering support. Sorry to ramble. Hope y'all are having a great holiday weekend. Be safe out there! Missy in Austin --------------------------------- Looking for earth-friendly autos? Browse Top Cars by "Green Rating" at Yahoo! In regards to Demographics January 15, 2007 12:40 AM

Hiya Jack,

Well...I have today off work...(Just on my way to bed as it's 2:39am). I'll do some digging and see what I can find. Good topic! That would be very interesting to know.

Demographics January 14, 2007 7:06 AM

I am wondering if anyone has numbers available to them that shows about how many same sex partners with children live in the U.S. I am under the impression there are a fairly large number of these folks who create for themselves deliberate families based on love. This whole kind of family structure is an important issue in this world today given the misguided efforts of many who believe they have the answer for the lives of others. Same sex marriages and parenting is either going to prosper or suffer depending on political winds. Can anyone direct us toward a census of same sex parents in this country? Maybe if we could identify them by some secure means we could turn to them to learn. I have two wonderful friends living in Colorado who happen to be lesbian. They are very much in love and want to have children. I am going to invite them to join with us on this important issue. Maybe our groups can lend itself to keeping a census record.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I haven't created a mission statement for this group, as it's mainly to connect with other LGBTT families, friends and allies. This group is run on a "respect everyone" theme, and by basic Care2 Rules of Conduct.

This group isn't very active. That's partially my fault, because I really have no clue on how to get people talking. I've tried starting topics to no avail. Which tells me, that when people need to post, eventually they will. OR their getting their support elsewhere. Not very sure on this one.

Love is the core of every family around the world..... January 10, 2007 3:22 PM

Hello again group. I notice we are locked in to 26 members in this important group. Twenty six people believe in the need for love around which to build a loving family unit. With everything going on in just this country alone, twenty six people don't make a ripple in spite of their hearts. We need 26,000 members! With events taking place in Massachucetts as we speak, if they are successful and others states follow their lead, it will not make any difference how much love you feel in your hearts...the heats of twenty six people. Love will not and is not for some people a factor in setting up any kind of family. Religious fanantics would  have you believe they have all the correct answers and they are going to make a constitutional ammendment to control your family. GLBT Care2 group has a discussion on it. See what you think.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I would like to read our mission statement for this group. Also, are there any goals in mind or plans made to reach those goals? I would like to lend a hand if there is something we are working toward. Thanks.  Jack P.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Thank you for having me as a member January 06, 2007 5:26 PM

Thank you, Traeci, for my acceptance into your group. I am very much honored to be a part of you all now. I am brand new to this whole Care2 site and I am in awe of it's usefulness. As a bisexual male I have searched to find what I believe will be my greatest opportunity to assist with constructive and positive suggestions that will help make all our lives happier. At least I want to do what I can. I have come to realize that, as the name of y/our group declares, love DOES make a family....the larger family as well as the smaller one. The GLBT community, from my observation, has the emotion of love perfected and express it well. I look forward to making friends of each who join us here. Thanks again for having me. My next move is to learn how to plant my photo over the frog!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

anonymous Hi!! May 29, 2005 10:40 AM

I just had my application approved for this group so I thought I'd drop in and say Hi!! I am a very strong supporter of LGBT rights and was very interested in this group!

I am a lover of children's picture books and some great LGBT ones that I love are:

How my family came to be--Daddy, Papa and me by Andrew Aldrich

Heather has two mommies by Leslea Newman

Other honourable mentions:

Asha's Mums by Rosamund Elwin

Daddy's Roommate by Michael Wilhoite

I also really love the adult graphic novel series Dykes to Watch out for by Alison Bechdel.  The characters are wonderful and the series portrays a variety of LGBT family situations.  Very cool!!

I hope to get to know you all soon!!
