Urgent: Denver Pit Bull Puppy Slated to Die Thursday Due to Ban: February 08, 2006 1:58 AM
Attention Colorado Animal Lovers:
Pit Bull Mix Puppy in Desperate Need of Shelter, Foster or Forever Home!!
Please respond ASAP-- We have until Wednesday afternoon, (February 8th, 2006,) to resolve this matter, as the pup is slated to be euthanized early Thursday morning. Sorry for the short notice; I've only just received this information myself.
Thanks to Denver's Pit Bull Ban, a five month old puppy is being held at Denver Animal Control and is slated to be put to sleep early Thursday morning. His family members, evacuees from Hurricane Katrina, came to Denver not knowing about the dreadful ban, were reported to animal control by someone who spotted the pup, and had to turn him over to animal control after failing to send him out of town within the 5-7 day limit. Now, this is actually an opportunity to find the pup a better home, as his current owners have no where to put him and up to this point he has been living in their bathroom. He is very timid; a person who's met him, describes him as timid and shy, and says that he has yet to be socialized, but is very cute.
She is determined to save this little guy, and says that she will pay the $100 fee to have him released, pay for his microchip and shots, and help transport him to his new location, be it a foster home, shelter, or permanent home. He has not yet been licensed, so his new guardian will be able to license him to their location as soon as they get him. There is just one catch-- Animal Control will not release the dog unless he is signed out by, or turned over to, someone who lives outside of Denver, and in a county in which there is no ban. We're not quite sure how the sign-out process works, that's one of the determining factors in deciding where we go from here.
Because the adoption eligibility requirements are unclear at the moment, for now I am simply looking for prospective shelters and homes. We won't know what needs to be done until I've spoken with Animal Control in the morning-- err-- later this morning, it's 1:02 am now. For now we're just trying to determine what possibilities there are for a last minute relocation if it's needed.
Please, if you are interested, know anyone who is, or even know of shelters within a reasonable distance that are still accepting pits, please contact me via the e-mail address listed below the puppy's info.

I am an amateur rescuer. Every bit of advise and council helps!!
Please try to e-mail me before 4:00pm today, Wednesday-- preferably before 3:00pm today, as that's when I'm to report back to the other rescuer working the case. After that, if you're still interested in adopting him, please e-mail me, and I'll let you know whether he is still available. The clock is ticking on this, though, so please, if you know of any shelters that may be able to help, don't hesitate to e-mail me.
In all e-mails, please include the best way for me to get back to you quickly; your primary e-mail address if you'll be sure to keep checking it, or your phone number. I'd be more than thrilled to call anyone willing to help and spare you the long distance bill if that's a concern.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
I'll keep you posted on our progress.
