Role of women in the protests is extremely important. Please help those who still rely on us for support; Sign the petition.
They beat them with AXE, electric batons, Lashes, Knives and shot them.
They tortured them, raped sometimes as live eyewitnesses reported from night to dawn in gangs. Mothers raped while sons and daughters were made to listen next door to her pleads...
Nightmare comes live. Please help by singing and distributing;
Please share your feelings through this petition.

Being charged for survival December 13, 2008 11:59 PM
My fiance, Patrick Courtney, was lost on Labor Day weekend in the forest for 24 hours. He had a warming/signal fire. When he was found he told the investigators everything, where he was, what he had on him, and why he was there. They let him go home. Two days later a plane crashes killing the two people. three months later they arrest him for murder and arson. They state that in the State of California it is illegal to have a signal fire when lost and as a result of this illegal fire this plane crashed so they are charging him with murder. Since, his charges have been downgraded to reckless fire and 2ND degree murder however, it still is not right.... There are links to articles as well as a full recap of the story and final conclusion into the crash from the NTSB on the petitions website. This report concluded pilot error. It has been over two years and he hasn't been to trial yet. We need some support. His case will set a precedent for the State of California. If he is convicted this will mean that no one has the right to survive in the forest.... Please sign my petitions for Patrick! 1. Is so that he will not be given a third strike for being lost in the forest and having a signal, warming fire. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/no-3rd-strike-for-patrick
Re: [Amnesty International] PETITIONS WITH ONE MONTH OR LESS October 21, 2008 3:06 PM
I have signed the petition even though I am not from anywhere near this
pharmacist, but this guy should not have been given this position if he was
suspended in another state unless he was cleared. It is also Rite Drug who
is at fault.
On a lighter note, with all the petitions I have signed and especially
with some of my personal comments my picture may be developing a bullseye on
it or becoming a mug shot for some of these individuals/groups to which
these petition covers. LOL. Peace, Love , Laughter and Blessings to All of
You. Rev. Robert E. Spiritwalker Murchison, R.Pp.

I'm
here to finally give voice to the heinous nature of the Rite Aid
pharmacist Terry Myers. Time and time again his vicious and
scandalizing personal vendetta's against certain customers has left a
very disgusting taste in many a mouth. My own mother and myself have
been subject to his callous abuse.

In 10 days I will be talking to the financial director of the Nevada Public Employee Retirement System (PER and will be trying to convince them to divest $1.3 million that they have invested into two companies helping to fund the genocide in Darfur. Please help me convince them by signing this petition and then asking your friends to do the same.
I really think this is an important cause, and I'd like to encourage you to add your signature, too. It's free and takes less than a minute of your time.
Thanks!

Martijn, a Dutch paedophile association founded in 1982, which promotes itself as "a platform for debate" about paedophilia and, in its own words, "strives for social acceptance of child-parent relations." It receives media attention every now and then for the associations demands to legalize paedophilia.
How are such associations legal? Please petition against this...
ARTICLES BY MARTIJN - ***POSSIBLE TRIGGER*** (Readers may find the following material upsetting...)
Taken from: My Infatuations by Skull Dander
There was this one little girl I've mentioned in a recent essay that liked me very much indeed - her favorite things were to ask me questions... and to comb my hair... oh god! that was pure ecstasy until her fat-ass mom came in and told her to cut it out. I hated that fat lump. The little one was 3 years old if I recall correctly and I was maybe 10 or so. She was an absolute cutie. That was when I was being 'baby-sat' for the days when my parents could not be home. There was another little girl around the same time with another sitter. We were all playing hide-and-go-seek... well, what better chance then to catch one of those rabbits? And I did! I caught the little one behind a shed and promptly de-pantsed her. She didn't like that... so I did it again. My goodness, she was pretty.
Little ones are little - you can hold them and make them squeal. Big girls on the other hand - I want to be held by them, so they can make ME squal. Make sense?
I sit and watch children. I contemplate what it would be like to be found special by one of them. To hold one and find a profound love that has been stripped away from me by this horrible society is in itself an insanity. Indulgence becomes compulsion and then into the abyss of obsession. But there I am. Sitting. And watching. And wishing. Oh. Children! Those beauties remarkable! To sit and gaze into the horzion to watch the sun set into the distant yawn of sky and dawn, does not compare to one small child. The sun rises and fall - we knows of it. We do not know what will happen with a child. What will they learn and do? What can they teach us in our old and wizened wisdom that that the mirror shows as Fool? This world seems to hate itself and it teaches it's children the same. Blanket laws that keep men in prisons for a crime that harmed no one are not the sights that make this world a paradise. And sex? Have you even been a child? I'm sure you have, well hear this you malignant cancer: I was a child and so have been many others and sex was something that we thought about and portrayed.
The taboo upon children, just as anything that we are taught is wrong, is wrong, is only something to press us on. It sparkles with delight, does it not? Oh, come now mothers: tell me with truth that you have not wanted that little bottom sitting against your bare labia - what a delight! Come and get me and there will be a thousand more standing in my place.
Pedophilia - the outright love of children is something of scorn in this world. Adults are jealous...
Children are unspoilt by this world. They are new. What I find with even the best of adults - even with myself - is a decided group of scarring. Ugly scars and tender spots - whelps and boils cover the 'bodies' of adults, and yet that is not nearly the case with children. Who could honestly help not being enrapt with a child's cleanness of spirit? Yes, indeed: adults are vipers and are jealous of what they see in children, and this is due to the fact that they cannot accept what they have been through and have done and therefore no longer feel the sting of their lives. They could have that back, but very few actualize it.
Sex is the tip of the issue. Sex with children - whether the children understand what they are doing and are willing or not, is considered evil by the mental patients of the world. These adults do not care what the truth is, so long as they get their way. Adults are the cause of the problem - no, not the symptom and they would cause blame upon the Devil, but it is adults themselves that keep children, whether grown or young, from being who and what they are.
Request that the IOC take immediate action to address the violation of workers' rights in their supply chains.
The Beijing Olympics may be THE most profitable Olympics in the Games' history. Meanwhile the workers that actually make the goods that bear the Olympic logo aren't profiting at all. Research into conditions at factories producing Olympic-licensed products turned up many very serious rights violations. We don't think that's fair. Do you agree that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) needs to take responsibility for the conditions where their products are produced? Then let them know!
Send the letter below to IOC President Jacques Rogge. Let him know that you think the IOC should take responsibility for the unchecked violation of workers' rights in Olympic supply chains. Encourage him to engage in a dialogue with PlayFair 2008 to follow up on the constructive solutions they've proposed to address the problems in Olympic workplaces. IOC action on this serious issue is long overdue!
You can use this form to fax the following letter directly to Mr. Rogge (See their webpage)
Unfortunately, the link you posted does not seem to work. Could you check the link and then repost an active one? Thanks! I'd love to sign the petion.

...and USA??? (shame on you!!!) END WORLD HUNGER! NOW! (OR NEVER...) -Ben O.
The signers of this document want to let the world know that self-named Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) – FARC, in more than 40 years of terrorism:
• Have killed tens of thousands of Colombian citizens. • Have off-trial executed hundreds of Colombian citizens. • Have kidnapped thousands of Colombian citizens. • Have attacked tens of towns in our country. • Have performed tens of terrorist attacks to civilian targets. • Have used high-power explosives to kill Colombian citizens in indiscriminate attacks. • Have dynamited our oil pipelines. • Have attacked national energy and roads infrastructure. • Have planted thousands of anti-personnel landmines in rural areas of our country. • Have used chemical substances such as ammonium nitrate to increase damage caused by it’s bombs. • Have recruited hundreds of children for combat. • Have attacked medical facilities, medical personnel and ambulances. • Have produced displacement of more than 2 million of Colombians. • Keep currently more than 700 kidnapped people, which they torture in Colombian forests. • Have destroyed more than 98.000 acres of forest to seed coca and produce cocaine. • Have trafficked hundreds of tons of cocaine.
Firmly and unanimously we want to express to the whole world that FARC does not represent any of us, nor our interests, nor our people.
We also want to express that we strongly condemn all their terrorist actions that along more than 40 years have been producing death and pain, while stopping the progress of the country we want for our families and children.
For the previously listed reasons we want the whole world to know:
• We DON´T want more kidnappings. • We DON´T want more death. • We DON´T want more terrorism. • We DON´T want more FARC.
I have signed this petition and after posting it on Facebook have passed it on to friends.
I am keeping this poor mother and her children in my prayers for a positive outcome.
Blessings

As unbelievable as it may seem, the White House has given a "prepare to deploy" order sending the USS Eisenhower to the Persian Gulf, and leaked reports are warning that the Bush Administration is making further preparations for a military strike against Iran.
Is this simply an escalation of the administration’s saber-rattling? An attempt to provoke Iran and create a Tonkin Gulf-like rationale to justify military strikes? Or is this actually the first step of planned military action against Iran, with the administration’s declarations of attempted diplomacy just as phony as they were before the Iraq war?
We cannot wait to prevent an unprovoked attack against Iran.
Military action against Iran would inevitably kill large numbers of innocent people, foster even greater hatred towards the United States, and bring international condemnation. Our own intelligence agencies have concluded the Iraq war has worsened the terrorist threat, and a war against Iran would add immeasurably more fuel to the fire.
Stand up to the Administration - Demand that there be no war in Iran!
The UN has authorized a joint United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission for Darfur. Our task now is to ensure that President Bush upholds the U.S. commitment to support this mission when the UN General Assembly meets on September 18th.
Our goal is to send 100,000 messages in the next three weeks urging the president to uphold his commitment to the peacekeeping mission.
Help us reach our goal! Fill out the form below to add your name to a petition urging President Bush to live up to our commitments.
Hey all. I don't have any petitions to post. I just love signing petitions. So far today, I have signed the one for stopping chlidren executions in the Mideast. I just signed in. Take care.
Here in Canada there is a growing problem , when Muslim women immigrate here and to the U.S. they see that North American women are not as restricted as we don't follow Muslim dictates . When they attempt to blend in they are beaten by their husbands , as a result the women's shelters are filled to over flowing and they are forced onto welfare . We are an international sisterhood and should all have the right not too live in fear.

In my email today, passing this on:
Sign a petition asking your elected officials to support an Independent Bipartisan Commission on Interrogation. It's time for a change of course!
Since the dawn of the Geneva Conventions and the United Nations Convention Against Torture, the United States has played a key role in promoting the rule of law and championing universal human rights, including freedom from torture.
Unfortunately instances like Abu Graib, secret prisons, and extraordinary rendition have cast a shadow over our country and led friend and foe to question whether we believe in human rights and the rule of law. It is past time we change course.
Our elected leaders owe it to the American people and the global community to fully investigate these fundamental breaches in the rule of law. Join us by signing a petition, telling your elected officials that it is in the best interests of U.S. national security to create an Independent Bipartisan Commission on Interrogation.
On
Friday morning, Paul Wolfowitz -- President Bush's key architect of the Iraq war, now
president of the World Bank and self-styled fighter of corruption -- was caught
red-handed in a corruption scandal of his own. He pushed a huge pay raise for
his girlfriend, and hid the facts from his organization and the world.
He's got to go.
The World Bank's board, made up of our governments from around the world, is
now deciding whether Wolfowitz should keep his job. An immediate, massive, and
global outcry could make the difference. Our petition is three words long:
"Sack Paul Wolfowitz." Sign it here:
When Paul Wolfowitz was a top official in President Bush's Department of
Defense, he was one of the Iraq
war's biggest backers. When the war became a fiasco, instead of firing
Wolfowitz, Bush gave him a promotion--to president of the World Bank. At the
Bank, he vowed to make corruption his top issue--but alienated the world by
delaying aid packages to India,
Kenya,
and other countries without consulting the bank's Executive Board.
Now we've learned that he didn't practice what he preached.
Wolfowitz's girlfriend was a senior World Bank employee. When he became
president, the Bank's ethics rules would not allow him to keep her on staff
under his supervision. So he transferred her to the US State Department--but
kept her on the Bank's payroll, and gave her a US$60,000 pay raise. Her salary
rose to US$193,590, higher than Condi Rice's. What's more, it appears that
Wolfowitz hid the evidence of what he'd done.
Fighting corruption is a key to ending poverty. But there can't be one standard
for the rich and powerful and a different one for everybody else.
The 24-member board of the World Bank, which uncovered Wolfowitz's corruption
through a special investigation, is now deciding his fate. Bush is likely
pulling strings to help Wolfowitz keep his job. It's time for global public
opinion to weigh in--which means it's all up to you.

Mastectemy Bill in Congress! March 22, 2007 1:44 PM
Mastectomy Hospital Bill in Congress
A mastectomy is a procedure that removes a woman's breast in order to remove cancerous cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.
Mastectomy Bill in Congress
It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important. Please take the time and do it really quickly! Breast Cancer Hospitalization Bill - Important legislation for all women. Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you're receiving this, it's because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same. There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the "drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached. Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed.
PLEASE sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number. This takes about 10 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family, and on behalf of all women, THANKS.

Vida R. 02/14/07 Dog Breeder - Animal Cruelty 5:18 AM
Animal rescuers/activists investigated the premises in December 2006 and were able to observe first-hand, dogs on short chains with little to no shelter or in decrepit cages, unable to escape their prisons, living on top of piles of feces and hair. Others were perched on wooden pallets surrounded by a stagnant lake of fetid feces and rainwater. All were without adequate food and water, never exercised and waiting to die. Some skeletons were also found as well as one rotting carcass covered in maggots.
We went to the pet shop yesterday, conditions as bad or even worse than Kashima; dead Shiba in a cage on a mountain of feces and another one dying in the cage next door and this is only what we could see from outside.
Earlier this year, you joined more than 25,000 others standing in for the victims of genocide in Darfur and calling for the U.N. to appoint a high-level peace envoy to help end the killing. Sadly - despite a peace agreement reached in May - the violence has continued and the U.N. has yet to appoint an envoy.
But we know that people who care are not giving up hope for Darfur.
One month from today – on Sunday, September 17 – Human Rights First and other campaigners are staging the Global Day for Darfur – dozens of simultaneous events in cities around the world that will allow people to call on their governments to take immediate action to protect civilians in Darfur.
September 17 marks the opening of the U.N. General Assembly and the one-year anniversary of the United Nations’ pledge to provide security for civilians around the world. On this day, people all over the world will raise their collective voices, telling governments and the UN to end the continuing suffering in Darfur.
Events are currently being planned in New York, London, Paris, Abuja, Toronto, Cairo, Kigali, Moscow, and many other cities. The events range from small candlelight vigils to mass concerts. While the events will be different in size and scope, we are encouraging people at all the events to wear "blue hats" – the internationally recognized icon of UN peacekeeping forces.
Even if you cannot attend an event, please wear a blue hat on September 17 and tell all your friends and family to do the same.
It's going to be a day of solidarity and a show of power from citizens of the world and we urge you to take part in it.
Go to the new and still improving web site www.DayForDarfur.org to find out more. If there's no event planned where you live perhaps you’d like to arrange one! Contact us to find out how.
We hope you can join us on September 17.

Petition: People Of Religious Faith Campign Aganist Torture!
http://www.nrcat.org/statement.aspx
Torture Is A Moral Issue
A Statement of the National Religious Campaign against Torture
Please join the over 5000 people who have already endorsed this statement.
Torture violates the basic dignity of the human person that all religions hold dear. It degrades everyone involved --policy-makers, perpetrators and victims. It contradicts our nation's most cherished ideals. Any policies that permit torture and inhumane treatment are shocking and morally intolerable.
Torture and inhumane treatment have long been banned by U.S. treaty obligations, and are punishable by criminal statute. Recent developments, however, have created new uncertainties. By reaffirming the ban on cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment as well as torture, the McCain amendment, now signed into law, is a step in the right direction. Yet its implementation remains unclear.
The President's signing statement, which he issued when he signed the McCain Amendment into law, implies that the President does not believe he is bound by the amendment in his role as commander in chief. The possibility remains open that inhumane methods of interrogation will continue.
Furthermore, in a troubling development, for the first time in our nation's history, legislation has now been signed into law that effectively permits evidence obtained by torture to be used in a court of law. The military tribunals that are trying some terrorist suspects are now expressly permitted to consider information obtained under coercive interrogation techniques, including degrading and inhumane techniques and torture.
We urge Congress and the President to remove all ambiguities by prohibiting:
Exemptions from the human rights standards of international law for any arm of our government.
The practice of extraordinary rendition, whereby suspects are apprehended and flown to countries that use torture as a means of interrogation.
Any disconnection of "cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment" from the ban against "torture" so as to permit inhumane interrogation.
The existence of secret U.S. prisons around the world.
Any denial of Red Cross access to detainees held by our government overseas.
We also call for an independent investigation of the severe human rights abuses at U.S. installations like Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, and Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan.
Nothing less is at stake in the torture abuse crisis than the soul of our nation. What does it signify if torture is condemned in word but allowed in deed? Let America abolish torture now --without exceptions.
Michael's Comments: We need desperatly need people from all religious faiths, clergy, religious leaders, and religious ministries, churches, and congergations to sign this very
important petition to stop torture!!!

WE WON! I called Preventative Services on Monday morning about an appointment I had with them for that afternoon. When I got my case worker on the line she said that my case had been dropped. I was so stunned I couldn't say a word. When I composed myself, I asked her to hold on..let me call my worker at ACS and ask what is going on with my case. The worker from PS said that I didn't have to call; she had spoken with ACS AND her superior and that the case was unfounded and therefore closed. I figured it best NOT to stick my head out to ACS; let them contact me. They haven't said a peep since my last meeting with PS last Friday. I called Welfare Organizing Children's Services, an advocacy group that I had an appointment with for the following day. They said that PS is right my case was dropped! I am still afraid that THEY are going to come knocking on my door; the abusive father said that he's going to call ACS back and make a report against me so that his parents will have our son and get 1,000 dollars a month. What a jerk; he lives in a Nursing Home b/c he can't or more likely WON'T work just so he doesn't have to pay Child Support. He's in a nursing home b/c he was sent there after he came out of a coma that was caused by an overdose of alcohol & drugs. His parents won't even take him back. I let my son visit him ONLY at the grandparents' home. My son is safe there. He doesn't yet know how abusive his father is to me. I hope he will put the pieces together as he gets older.
When I told my son that the bad people were not going to take him away or even come in our house anymore, his eyes lightened just a fraction. I could feel the relief coming off him. I promised him that nobody was going to take him away and I kept my promise. He jumped up and hugged me; I never felt so useful as a mother as I did during that moment when he grabbed me.
I have not forgotten how this happened or who called the false allegations in. I will deal with them once I have the letter from ACS stating that our case was unfounded and closed. Brendan has to go to school; I cannot afford a different school & that's where the complaint came from, the Guidance Counselor who looked me in the eye and told me that my son was fine during Parent-Teacher Meetings. (At the time I didn't know that she was the one who called ACS.) Also, my son's papers were never mailed from her office to a school that I was trying to get Brendan into (along with 400 other children); a school for gifted children. I thought maybe he was having a hard time in kindergarten b/c he belonged in a more challenging atmosphere ( I had him tested as per the requirements of the "Gifted& Talented" School.) She will hear from me but I need to think it through since my son will be atending next year. *arrgghh*
As I said I haven't forgotten anything that happened and what I did to beat ACS: I called in a complaint against their harassment. I made a formal complaint with ACS, reminding them that they were in violation of Social Services Law 274 ( they had 60 days to make their case or close it..they took 4 months. Also them making me take unauthorized by a court order drug tests are illegal but I didn't know any better and allowed them to use fear tactics on me and my son. Clearly they were wrong. I am just glad that I still have my son.
I have no intention of forgetting what CPS does to families. I intend to hang out at the Advocacy Center at Children's Organizing Welfare Project to help other families and children. If I am lucky, maybe they will hire me;I hate to see families broken up on false alegations and the abused children slip through the cracks. I was ambivalent about posting this to you. I know that you are still fighting the system. I empathize 100%. I will remain a member of this group. I will continue to help in any way that I can. Just e-mail me. I'll be there for you.
All of you are in my prayers and my mind when I deal with malicious Child Welfare groups that operate with totalitarian power. I pray that you are reunited with your children. May you be Blessed to have the strength to keep fighting the system. Never give up! You and your children are precious. You are worth the fight. You are worth being helped. You are worthy of happiness.
Thank you for all your support. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
ONE WEEK...PETITION FOR MY SON PLEASE READ April 20, 2006 11:22 PM
To All,
I have just created a petition to help me and Brendan. It is to stop ACS from ILLEGALLY taking my son out of my house/care and place him with the state. No one will come knocking on your door. I promise. You cannot get in trouble for helping a single mom who has been harassed by The State, not to mention what it is doing to Brendan. I am so tired of fighting but I must if I want to keep my son. I also want this to be an example for other parents who might come under the scrutiny of ACS (Administration for Children's Services) but who do not have the resources or intellect to try and defend themselves and their children. It has been proven that ACS has used illegal means and scare tactics to strengthen their claim on Brendan. To date, I have been found guilty of none of the charges against me. I am innocent, Brendan is safe with me but still, ACS won't step out of our lives. I have been in contact with several Parent Advocacy Groups and a lawyer from the Bronx Legal Aid Division (Family Court) who has specialized in these cases for 20 years. I am not speaking from a paranoid/overprotective mother's mind. Brendan and I are being harassed and I want it to stop. Ms. Ketcher, the legal aid attorney, whole-heartedly approved of my petition. Now I just need signatures. Please look and sign. Or pass it on to anyone whom you might think will care. If you read the full petition you will know the facts. Please take a look at my petition: "STOP THE STATE FROM ILLEGALLY TAKING MY CHILD *TIME SENSITIVE**"
Please help me not let the State take my son away. I have committed no crime. The State is using their power to take children away from their families with impunity or just cause. Please take a moment to read about this important issue, and join me in signing the petition. It takes just 30 seconds, but can truly make a difference. Please sign here:
Show your support for Christopher's Bill TODAY!! April 01, 2006 7:20 AM
PLEASE take a moment to sign Christopher's Bill, the Juvenile Justice Reform Act which is set to be delivered to the South Carolina Legislature this month. lt is a great step in telling our law makers that juveniles should NOT be held accountable the same as adults who commit crimes. Children deserve a chance to be rehabilitated and not thrown into adult prisons with no hope! Thank you for your support!

Sign the petition for Christopher Pittman NOW! March 12, 2006 10:30 AM
In SC and other US states, children as young as 10 are being arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced as adults under mandatory sentencing mandates. Children are being sentenced to mandatory terms created to net young people involved in gang violence and the drug trades. Children are being sentenced to life without parole. Often under the influence of prescription drugs, otherwise average and above average children commit unthinkable crimes. These children are then thrown into a court and sentencing system designed for hardcore adult criminals. Mandatory sentencing does not take into consideration the past non-violent social history or the effects strong prescription drugs have on young minds. The results are ruined young lives. We need your support. Please sign this petition and lend your name to the pursuit of Juvenile Justice.

NATIVE AMERICAN SACRED LAND VIOLATION -- SIGN BY APRIL 4! March 12, 2006 9:59 AM
Newly proposed construction of a 600 acre Biker Bar / Concert Venue threatens the environment, wildlife habitat, water quality, and the freedom of religious practice of indigenous peoples!
This biker-bar-campground, that Allen originally wanted to name "Sacred Grounds," (now changed to Sturgis County Line) will have long-range implications affecting many generations to come. Bear Butte and the surrounding area is indeed sacred ground and this encroachment of sacred land must be stopped. South Dakota state lawmakers recommend a four mile buffer zone to begin at the State Park boundary to maintain the sanctity of Bear Butte. People throughout the world who are aware of this new development idea are appalled at such a venture. Let us show the world that we are sensitive to civil and human rights all year long. Let us stand together for the protection of this sacred site, as we are all responsible for our future generations. Meade Commissioners set beer license approval hearing date for Jay Allen's Sturgis County Line for Tuesday, April 4th, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. The hearing will be held in the Meade County Court House, 1425 W. Sherman St., Sturgis, SD. Approval of alcohol permitting in Meade County is contingent on two criteria, bar location and the character of the applicant. Meade County Commissioners must deny approval of Sturgis County Line's 2006 beer license. Please sign the petition and also contact your local, tribal, state and federal legislators to express your concern regarding the growth and expansion of ambitious urban developments that endanger our protected sacred lands. Stand up and speak out for the protection of Bear Butte. http://meadecounty.org/ Meade County 1425 W. Would you please sign this petition and forward to all you know. It is in defense of sacred land BEAR BUTTE.
Say 'NO' to Testing Pesticides on Orphans and Abused Children!
Dear Friends,
We need 100,000 signatures saying "NO" to EPA's proposed rule that targets orphans, neglected, abused, and mentally challenged children to be used as pesticide test subjects.
We can only protect the children and stop this atrocity with your help! Please sign the letter to the left, which will be automatically submitted to your State Senator and Representatives and to the EPA Public Comment Period on the proposed rule. To learn more about this issue, click the Learn More button, below.
If your organization would like to sign on to an Organizational Letter, please send a note to childproofing@childproofing.org by December 12th.
Please forward this letter on to others, by the close of the EPA public comment period on December 12, 2005.
Public comments are now being accepted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on its newly proposed federal regulation regarding the testing of chemicals and pesticides on human subjects. On August 2, 2005, Congress had mandated the EPA create a rule that permanently bans chemical testing on pregnant women and children. But the EPA's newly proposed rule, misleadingly titled "Protections for Subjects in Human Research," puts industry profits ahead of children's welfare. The rule allows for government and industry scientists to treat children as human guinea pigs in chemical experiments in the following situations:
1. Children who "cannot be reasonably consulted," such as those that are mentally handicapped or orphaned newborns may be tested on. With permission from the institution or guardian in charge of the individual, the child may be exposed to chemicals for the sake of research.
2. Parental consent forms are not necessary for testing on children who have been neglected or abused.
3. Chemical studies on any children outside of the U.S. are acceptable.
OCA's focal concerns with this proposed rule specifically involve the following portions of text within the EPA document (Read the full EPA proposed rule here: PDF --- HTML):
70 FR 53865 26.408(a) "The IRB (Independent Review Board) shall determine that adequate provisions are made for soliciting the assent of the children, when in the judgment of the IRB the children are capable of providing assent...If the IRB determines that the capability of some or all of the children is so limited that they cannot reasonably be consulted, the assent of the children is not a necessary condition for proceeding with the research. Even where the IRB determines that the subjects are capable of assenting, the IRB may still waive the assent requirement..."
(OCA NOTE: Under this clause, a mentally handicapped child or infant orphan could be tested on without assent. This violates the Nuremberg Code, an international treaty that mandates assent of test subjects is "absolutely essential," and that the test subject must have "legal capacity to give consent" and must be "so situated as to exercise free power of choice." This loophole in the rule must be completely removed.)
70 FR 53865 26.408(c) "If the IRB determines that a research protocol is designed for conditions or for a subject population for which parental or guardian permission is not a reasonable requirement to protect the subjects (for example, neglected or abused children), it may waive the consent requirements..."
(OCA NOTE: Under the general rule, the EPA is saying it's okay to test chemicals on children if their parents or institutional guardians consent to it. This clause says that neglected or abused children have unfit guardians, so no consent would be required to test on those children. This loophole in the rule must be completely removed.)
70 FR 53864 26.401 (a)(2) "To What Do These Regulations Apply? It also includes research conducted or supported by EPA outside the United States, but in appropriate circumstances, the Administrator may, under § 26.101(e), waive the applicability of some or all of the requirements of these regulations for research..."
(OCA NOTE: This clause is stating that the Administrator of the EPA has the power to completely waive regulations on human testing, if the testing is done outside of the U.S. This will allow chemical companies to do human testing in other countries where these types of laws are less strict. This loophole in the rule must be completely removed.)
70 FR 53857 "EPA proposes an extraordinary procedure applicable if scientifically sound but ethically deficient human research is found to be crucial to EPA’s fulfilling its mission to protect public health. This procedure would also apply if a scientifically sound study covered by proposed § 26.221 or § 26.421--i.e., an intentional dosing study involving pregnant women or children as subjects..."
(OCA NOTE: This clause allows the EPA to accept or conduct "ethically deficient" studies of chemical tests on humans if the agency deems it necessary to fulfull its mission. Unfortunately, the EPA report sets up no criteria for making such an exception with any particular study. This ambiguity leaves a gaping loophole in the rule. Without specific
Save worker-owned Bauen Hotel in Argentina November 18, 2005 8:23 PM
Dear Friends,
The movements of worker-run businesses in Latin America are growing, creating dignified democratic jobs in the rubble of neoliberalism¹s ruinous experiments on that continent.
In Caracas recently, the first pan-Latin meeting of recovered companies was a tremendous success, with 600 workers from 263 companies in eight countries taking the first steps to build an alternative trading network that will deepen and broaden the power of these new social movements.
We are writing you today to ask you to help save one of the most important sites in this emerging network: the Bauen Hotel in Buenos Aires.
The Bauen is a five star hotel that was abandoned to bankruptcy by its owners, and has been recovered and is now operated by a cooperative of its workers. It is also the informal living room/meeting place of the movement in Argentina, and as such has been targeted by right wing politicians in the city legislature of Buenos Aires for eviction.
The hotel is now on emergency footing, with eviction possible within days.
Naomi Klein, Arundhati Roy, Michael Hardt, Antonio Negri, Michael Albert, and Avi Lewis have already signed.
You can also send emails to President Nestor Kirchner at privada@presidencia.gov.ar
and Anibal Fernandez, the Minister of the Interior at: anibalfernandez@infovia.com.ar.
Below is a sample email in Spanish and English.
Please forward widely and help Save the Bauen Hotel!
Many thanks, The International Support Campaign for the Workers of the Bauen Hotel

Saluda atentamente, Tu nombre
---- Dear President Nestor Kirchner (or Minister of the Interior Anibal Fernandez),
We demand that you immediately take all necessary measures to stop the attack on the workers who have recovered the Bauen Hotel and pass a definitive and permanent law that recognizes them for what they are: the rightful owners.
Sincerely, Your name

Posted twice, because it is not at all clear when the evictions would begin taking place.
Workers running their own businesses; Isn't that -- uh -- Socialism?!
