I'm a truck driver, too, who is currently taking a one-month hiatus to fix up a house my b/f and I just bought. Once I get back on the road, I might start another thread in here to get things going a bit more. I usually take a bunch of photos, too. I anticipate hopping back on the truck in about two and a half weeks.
Where do you normally run? I'm dedicated northeast based out of a terminal in Florida, from New York City with a company from Nebraska. (LOL)
If you ever get on I-75 in Florida, stop in at the 75 Chrome Shop....In the back of the building is a CB shop called MESA that I usually hang out in. I discovered them about three years ago and won't get my CB repaired anywhere else...They actually know what they're doing and offer their own 1 year warranties and custom installations. It's off of exit 329 in Wildwood, FL.
The running joke is that I liked their work so much that I dated one of the repairmen there (Dale). It's not true, though...He's a nice guy - and I happened to be working in the vinyl department at the Chrome Shop when we started dating.
Anyway, look forward to keeping up with the group. Take it easy and safe haulin';.
Last Saturday my best friend was rolling her tarp (she is a rock hauler in TX). She and the 2 guys she was running with were on the side of the road. She was the 3rd truck with the other 2 in front of her. The reason they actually stopped is because the 1st guy had to shut the tailgate on his dump trailer, and she decided to roll her tarp while they were stoped . A car came across 2 lanes and hit her (the driver fell asleep!). She was between the car and the axles of the truck and as a result her leg was severely damaged. She was in the hospital for a week and the Doctors told her there was no way of saving it, they did all they could do but the skin was dying, the bone wasn't healing and the blood vessels they took out of her Right leg and put in her damaged leg were not wanting to work or attach properly. Yesterday around noon she went into surgery and they amputated her left leg at the knee. She is doing very well and has a positive attitude though. I talked to her this morning and she has vastly improved!!! She kept saying "it could have been much worse" and if you think about it........she is absolutely right! She is going to get fitted for a prosteisis (spelling?) and will be just fine! It sure was a rough week for me, she is my best friend in the whole world but I know it was a much rougher week for her!

Talk
about a strange night! Hope what happened tonight never happens again!
Was sitting in my truck minding my own business when I noticed a police
car crusie by. next thing I know there is an ambulance, a fire truck
and 3 squad cars not too far from me, maybe 200ft at best. I kept
watching and the fire truck left, then the ambulance. The police cars
stayed and I noticed there was "something" going on at a red volvo
truck. There were people all over the place and it looked like the
police was searching the truck. People on the Cb were asking what was
going on. Come to find out the driver was sitting behind the steering
wheel and had passed away right there in the drivers seat!!! Another
driver called and reported a driver slumped over in a truck and that is
what started the whole thing! I kept watching and saw the coroner show
up, they searched the truck again and I watched as they removed the
body from the truck. That is just an erie feeling to know that some
driver died that close to where I was parked! It was very upsetting to
say the least! People on the CB started talking about it and was
talking about life, living and death. I asked the people on the radio
that whomever believes in it would they please take a moment to pray
for this guy's family! I just wonder how far from home he was, did he
have a wife, children, grand children? It realy gets you to think when
something like this hapens.
I had been taking pictures earlier of trucks in that exact same area
but noticed when I looked at the pictures I had taken that the spot the
truck was in was actually empty. There was a truck on each side but he
hadn't parked there yet. What makes this even stranger is while this
was going on I was in the bunk chating and once in a while would look
to see what was going on. One of the people on my friends list just out
of the blue sent me a story about a trucker that died and went to
heaven, here is the story:
inevitable part of life is death, and so when an old trucker
passed away, his spirit, as he was making his way towards the pearly
gates realized how much he had enjoyed the road, and how much he was
going to miss it. However, a most unbelievable sight became apparent.
There, parked on both sides of the gates were 150 big trucks, with
their "shiny hiney's" reflecting the clouds and the light. When the old
hand walked up to St. Peter the first words he spoke to the hallowed
saint were, "St. Peter, those are some mighty proud rigs there, do you
all haul a lot of loads here?" Whereupon St. Peter just hung his head
down and replied, "No I'm sorry, none at all, so far we've not been
able to recieve a dispatcher." Stay safe, rest well, and keep 'er
'tween the ditches
That was just too eerie! Here I am watching what was going on not too
far from me and I got that! To make it even stranger I was checking
another site I belong to (C2C) and some lady that has been a truckers
wife for 30 years wanted me to add her as a friend because she wanted
to talk to other truckers! I was realy beginning at this point to think
I was in the twilight zone! It was just way too strange! I do pray that
the drivers family fares well through this loss, as for the driver he
is in a much better place than we can imagine!
My name is Alexandra Nett, live in South Africa and joined this site a few days ago. Your life seems to be interesting. If you ever read this then I would like to know if you would like to keep in touch. I own three rigs here - trucking is VERY DIFFERENT here and I would love to compare notes with you.
Just
letting everybody know that tomorrow morning I am going to Waco TX.
Hubby is going to pick up a truck and from there we will be in seperate
trucks. Things have not been going very well and I just can't take his
foul mouth and bad attitude so we are each going solo. I cannot tell
you what will happen from here but some that know what I have been
through with him don't understand why I stayed with him this long. I
have not thought of the big "D" and like I said, I have no idea what is
going to happen from here. I do know I am scared to death of being
alone out here, there are a lot of perverts and hustlers and other not
so good people on the road but there are lots of nice people too, I
just have to be careful. I have never been a "be by myself" type of
person, have been quite co-dependant actually. I will be keeping both
dogs with me since one of the things that kind of did it for us was the
day he beat the coonhound pup with his fists because he chewed
something! I will not tolerate animal cruelty in any way shape or form!
I will also be keeping the laptop so I will post as much as I can. IF
anybody requests it I will write a journal but only if you care to hear
it. Hope everybody is doing well. Fall is near and that means ol' man
winter won't be far away! I know for a fact if it is in an area where
it snows I won't be driving there for sure since I have very little
winter driving experience in the truck! Take care everybody and post
when you can!
yeah car drivers and truckers need to watch what they are doing at all times

Well, we are sitting in Effingham IL. Shut down because we decided it would be much safer than trying to continue on the snow covered roads. We are going to wait untill morning when the crews have had a chance to clear the roads a bit.
The first place they sent us was Ft Worth TX, then to all places to Green Bay WI. We were on the way back to Lowell AR to the yard to get a PM done on the truck when the snow hit!
Neither one of us realy have any winter driving experience to speak of. I started driving first, then hubby wanted to drive. We managed to get a whopping 80 miles in 3 hours! LOL Anyway, we started seeing cars off the interstate and saw one truck that ran into a guard rail. Then we started hearing about the roads going into St Louis being realy bad so here we sit, nice and safe!
We sent our fleet manager a message over the on board computer and told him what we were doing and why. He actually thanked us for being safe drivers and we did the right thing for sure! I know the last company we were with would have argued about us shuting down! That is one of the reasons I like the company we are with now, they realy do seem to care about the saftey of their drivers!
This is what it looks like after a car goes under a semi trailer and comes out on the other side! This happened while we were shut down at a Flying J near the Wal Mart Distribution Center we are driving out of in Florida. The driver was making a left turn into the Flying J and he saw nothing, next thing he feels a bump and thought somebody had ran into the back of his trailer. Boy was he suprised to see the car under him! The driver was talking to the police and ambulance crew, I do not know how badly he was hurt but everybody said he didn't look too bad, they had to cut the roof off to get him out of course. I wasn't there at that time but hubby did see a helicopter lifting off when he opened the truck door. He turned on the CB and we heard about an accident in front of where we were at so we went there and hung around a bit. I have most of it on video though because as you see the camera wasn't doing such a good job. I just pray that the driver of the car is going to be ok! The strange thing about this is that after the flatbed wrecker got the car on it, we noticed that none of the air lines were damaged at all under the trailer! The only real damage we saw was the spare tire rack was toast and the spring that holds the air hoses for the trailer brakes was stretched, nothing else except for a bit of paint transfer on the bottom of the trailer where the car went under! The next morning when we left we looked and saw no skid marks at all, the driver of the car didn't even try to stop! There were plenty of witnesses that said there was nothing coming and next thing they knew the car was there! WOW!
Took the day off and finally got my pictures downloaded!!! Maybe I can catch up with my email now! Hope everybody is doing well! You can see my pics on my profile here on c2c.
We are now in sunny Florida! We got our load to the reciever almost 24 hours early! We are picking up our next load in Florida but not sure where we are going with it yet, we have to call before we head that way. Right now we are in St Augistine and are heading for Brooksville FL. We have to be there between 10:30 and midnight and it is only about 152 miles from where we are now. I am going to try to download the pictures we have so far, or at least some of them! Hope everybody is doing fine!
November 01, 2005 9:58 PM Well, we were sent from PA to MI. 899+ miles and we don't even have a load assigned. Makes no sense but at least we get paid for empty miles as well as loaded miles. It sure is cold here but at least it is not snowing!!!

Well it is that time. Sadly I must say my goodybe to everybody. I won't be able to get online for a while, but as soon as I do I will certianly say hello to my group! I know the hosts will do a great job while I am gone.
I will miss each and every one of you, even the members that don't post! I hope more people join and more people start posting!!!
Take care everybody and as they say "CATCH YOU ON THE FLIP FLOP!"
Well, I have most of my stuff ready to go. Just have a bit of house cleaning to do and when I finish getting everything ready I am going to put it out in my personal vehicle. Here are some of the pictures of the actual truck we will be driving, I took these when I met hubby when he came through the day he got it.
Well I got to see the new truck yesterday! Hubby just happened to be able to go through my area on his way with his load. I met him at a local truck stop and my son was with me as I had just picked him up from work. The truck is realy nice! I even got to drive it from the fuel island to a parking spot, not far to drive but at least I can say I got a chance to drive it! LOL It even still had the "new truck smell" in it!
Today Hubby was assigned to a brand new 2006 truck! It only has 986 miles on it! He just started with J B Hunt on Sept 7th but they assigned him to a rattly old 2002 truck that had almost half a million miles on it. We have not been driving that long, we are actually considered "newbies" to truck driving. He has about 10 months and I have about 8 months now behind the wheel. We usually drive team and I am going to orientation on Oct 18th. That means there will be at least 4 days when I will not be able to get online . Actually I am not sure how often I will be able to get online due to the fact team drivers don't get lots of chances to stop that much. I know that my hosts will help me keep this group going since I won't be on daily like I am now. So here is the start of my "adventures" and I will do my best to keep a journal and post here as much as I can!
Since I will soon be back on the road again, I thought I would start this thread. I will do my best to keep you informed of my "adventures in truck driving" so to speak.
Since it is hard to get online while you are on the road maybe everybody can let us know what is going on with themselves when you get a chance? I have posted this in my group MEN! ARRRRGGGG!!! and maybe you could start your own thread about your "adventures"?
