and blessings to you Mari. We are very glad you are here and thank you for joining.

This is a quiet time on care two, but that is ok. We all have "stuff" to do.

May your Holidays be happy and stress resistant.

Cheers, Jacki and hosts

Oh, my. It's been a while since anyone joined. I guess I'll just have to invite my friends and ask them to invite theirs.

Cart before the horse, that's me.

Hi, I'm Mari. I have 2 close friends in Iraq, on their second tour. The things they have to say are far from what we hear on MSN. I'll save that until I know the group better, and the limitations.

I have some great links for sending packages, but again, I want to look over the threads to make sure I'm not duplicating.

That being said, I'm very glad I found you.  I have three friends here and they didn't invite me. A pox upon you!

I'm juggling school and a part time job, so I won't be able to post as frequently as some. I have one more year at Boston U, and then I'll be doing autopsies for a living. What can I say. I watched too much Crossing Jordan.

Take care, everyone. Blessings to you and yours. I know it isn't easy, and that's an understatement. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Peace,
Mari

Thank you...four days and a wake-up!  Heard he is stopping in Ireland on the way home.  He is so excited...a new country he has never been too!  Gawd only knows what he'll bring home for a souvenir though....lately they've been rather...ummmm...gawdy for a lack of a better word!  LOL....

I'll try to post some pics when he gets home.  In the meantime keep him in your prayers while they travel back home.  They left today, will be home in four days.

God bless each and everyone of you and our troops,

Deployments are hard no matter what branch of the military you are in.

My son-in-law will be home next Friday!  YIPEE!!!  It has been a long six months, but he's coming home finally.

There are all sorts of ways to stay in touch while our troops are deployed.  I think it depends on the deployment though.  We had email this time ....time before in Japan we had email and also webcams.  That was a concrete deployment.  Much easier than this one.

You're command should have an ombudsman or some liansion for your command during deployment.  They also should be able to tell you how to stay in touch.  Snail mail sucks...but hey it's mail right?  Just remember to number your letters so if they get out of order, he'll know which one to read first and remember to put your stamp upside down for "I love  you".

I did two West-Pacs with my ex.  We didn't have the email and stuff back then....just snail mail.  And that is if there was no black out on the boat (ship).  It was tough though.  I remember writing letters sitting on the front stoop holding our newborn son.  Crying, writing, holding the bottle, dang it sucked!  Yet, those were some of our best times in our marriage.

Good luck to you and yours!  Keep coming back to our group for support and friendship, that's what we are here for.

God bless,

Leese

Welcome Leslie!! January 19, 2007 10:33 PM

"Thank you for the warm welcome! This is my first post! Im trying to get more involved in the "online" military community. My husband will have his 2nd deployment in March (6-8 months) in Afghanistan. He was deployed Sept-Dec 2006 to Colombia... only 3 months. Our baby is due end of Feb, beginning of March, so when he leaves our daughter may barely be a month old. Im basically needing advice from you "seasoned" military gals on how to keep him involved from an ocean away. He sooo desperately wants to be a good husband and daddy... I want to do everything I can to support him!!! I love him soooo MUCH!!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone too!!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm really glad you found this place! My heart goes out to you...
I've been absent for a while but I'm trying to get back 'with the program'.
My son was in Iraq and it was a long, long 18 months....
This is your husbands first time in the M.E.?
6-8 months is better than a year, that's for sure but still a huge worry.
I know.
Please post anything you want! We are here...maybe not daily but we're here.
I also keep an eye on this great group but I also have a lot of 'irons in the fire' right now... I think I'm spread to thin right now but I'm trying.
If you want to talk? Send me a message anytime.
I have 3 sons (all grown now)
Youngest is about to graduate high school. Yeah!! lol
My ex is a Vietnam vet. Been in your shoes, sort of....
My oldest just got back last April from Iraq.
Happy New Year!
Welcome Leslie January 19, 2007 8:07 PM
We are here to support and help. Do read through the threads for info already posted. Feel free to ask questions. I believe your dear Hubby will have more info when he gets to his duty station, about how to keep in contact beyond snail mail. I am not well versed in all of that.
Feel free to start a thread and starting conversations with members here. Care two has been a touch quiet lately, but I do come here when I have seen a recent posting.
Your hubby's unit leader would have info on if there would be a way or not to send email.
If you live near his U.S. base or near any base there are wives of military members support groups I hope. That is one way to keep your spirits up and connected to a common cause. I know in the Navy the Navy Relief society could advise people of support groups, etc. The Marines as well. I am sure the Army and Air Force as well. Just call the base operator and ask for family support organizations.
Congratulations on your soon to be new person and hang in there!
Have a wonderful weekend, Leslie!
Intro April 19, 2006 6:30 AM
Just wanted to say thank you for the invitation and say what a wonderful idea to start this group.
I am a Military Mom and my youngest son is currently deployed to Iraq.  He and his new wife are both in the Army and were both sent over last November.  She returned stateside just before Christmas when she discovered she is expecting their first child.
My son gets a mid-tour leave in May (I can hardly wait).  His tour of duty in Iraq is supposed to end on or about December 1, 2006.  However, my daughter-in-law just received new deployment orders for December 10th, 2006 to finish up her Iraq tour-of-duty.
It breaks my heart to see these two seperated as they only married last November 2 and have spent almost no time together.
Happy Holidays! December 29, 2005 6:05 PM
I'm only home on my 2 weeks leave as well. I have to go back Jan. 3rd. Basic was NOT fun, but also not nearly as hard as I expected. What made it hard was people being cranky all the time, and I'm not the cranky type so it kinda brought me down. Anyways, I'm hoping to get some pictures on here for all of you, it won't happen until the end of February though, that's when I come home for good.  [ send green star]
HOOAH! December 27, 2005 9:11 PM
It's Crystal here.  I am currently serving in USAF and hunny in the Army.  He is deployed to Kuwaut, but home for 2 weeks leave this Christmas.  We have 3 kids and are very happy and proud of the choice we have made to be career servicememnbers.   [ send green star]
Debbie, thank you for the invite.  I am so happy to see a group such as this where we all can come together in support of troops and their families.
I personally have never been in the military, but I have careerman of the Navy in the family. Many friends and friends with children in Iraq So, I very much am in support of our troops however my views are with our government.
My thoughts and prayers are with our men and women, and their families.  {Praying that you will be home soon!}
In peace, love and hope ~
hello! December 27, 2005 6:25 PM
I'm a newbie to this group and to the army. I just graduated basic training in November. I like the idea of this group because I have friends and family over in Iraq and who knows, one day I might have to go. The troops over there need all the support they can get.  [ send green star]
My friend in Alachua, FL, Satyamadhava, says, "Follow the money." I wouldn't mind so much but the same special elite group is making obscenely huge amounts of $ from this slaughter of people. Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss. Can you say trillionaire? My spell-checker pretends not to know.
Guilty as charged, your Honor.
I too, am military family related. My son is in Iraq now. That is the reason I had started a group, much like this one, on another network. It is so important that the families/friends/ect remember our servicemembers but......also the families which are having 'trying times' as well. My son has 2 kids and a wife here in Texas. I adopted them out to one of the members from my own group and they get regular mail. Mail is so important to everyone involved!
THANKS LISA for remembering our servicemembers!
Hi all and Thank You Lisa for the invitation.
 Well I tried to join the Military when I was young, but, they wouldn't take me due to my allergies to things. BUT, I am a Military Brat...LOL.  My Father was a Merrills Marauder (Army) in WWII and my Mother was Air Force.
My Father and Mother are both gone now, but, I still remember some of the stories told about the War. I had a Nephew (who is now dead) who was a Marine. How handsome he looked in uniform.
Hi Lisa:
Please apologize if I have been a little rude since I overlook to translate  The statement:
"Que ondas, un beso a todos los latinos que se encuentran en
estos momentos fuera de su patria, siempre se les recuerda y se les
lleva en el corazón"
Is more or less:  Hi, a kiss for all latins that presently are out of their country.  Our heart and thinkings are always with them.
I'm really bad about welcoming each of you individually so please accept my apologies.  Having each of you here is great, and hopefully everyone will contribute their thoughts and ideas to threads.
If you check out the past threads you will see different ways to support military members, or if you have any new ideas, please throw them out for all of us to share.
As we say " Que ondas, un beso a todos los latinos que se encuentran en estos momentos fuera de su patria, siempre se les recuerda y se les lleva en el corazón"
Would you please translate this for me.  I too am latino but do not speak any spanish at all.  Long story as to why, but I would love to know what that saying means.  It would be nice to have it on hand.
Thanks,
Hi Everyone October 03, 2005 7:33 PM
My Father was in the Air Force during WWII, and my Brother was also Air Force during the Viet Nam years.  I just recently found out that my Niece is engaged to a man who is just out of the Army from fighting over in Iraq!  So we are definitely a Military Family!  What a WONDERFUL idea for a Group!  DebbieC.
I am not an American citizen but, I really admire people like you that are always there to support others.  Therefore, as panamanian I also would like to colaborate with a litle of me and send supportive words to our latinos, no matter way they are.
Hi August 24, 2005 7:24 AM
How is everyone? I found this group through a network email that Lisa sent out. (Thanks for that great website by the way!) I am a veteran and come from a family of military. While I don't approve of everything that has happened, I support that our troops go faithfully where their commander-in-chief sends them. I hope I've picked the right group to hang out in. Have a wonderful day all!
Nancy, I couldn't agree with you more.  It is awful that our troops are there and have no idea when they will get to come home.
The fact that recruiting numbers are so low should be a clear message to Bush that America does not want it's children in this insane war!
OUR TROOPS NEED TO KNOW THEY ARE APPRECIATED August 17, 2005 8:58 PM
our troops are in Iraq and Afganistan lacking enough protection ..sufficient body and vehicle armor..in a war with no end to it...a war without enough troops on the ground in the first place and as the Iraqi government "tries" to change they as well as our boys are geting slaughtered daily.  What's wrong with this pcture? These boys are far away from home fighting a war for the United States? A country that went to be the most loved and respected to the most hated around the world.  No exit stragedy?  Gee, they wonder why the recruiting level is down.  Our troops definitely need support in so many ways!  I pray for them every day!
Hello everyone!  My oldest son is a Marine, he was stationed in Iraq for the past year and a bit, and it seem like eternity.  He was in Falujah when all that crazy stuff (not that any of it is sane) was going on with the elections and that was the worst time of my life.  But he just returned to his home base and I had him home for awhole month.  He is done all together in November and I am holding my breath.  I look forward to talking with everyone here.
It's great to see everyone that has joined our group.  Please feel free to start a thread or to post to an exisiting thread.
Share your personal stories, family members stories or those special memories of those who are deployed now or are currently serving our Country elsewhere.
Know someone who is a veteran?  Maybe that is you, share those thoughts too please.
Hopefully when our troops finally return, they will be given a warm welcome home.  Treated as heros for standing for what they believe in and riding out the storm.
