Happy Spring from Leaping Bunny

Easter is almost here and as bunny lovers we want to ask that if you are planning on buying a rabbit as part of your celebration that you please reconsider. Rabbits require a great deal of care and can live for 8-12 years. If you must get one, don't be tempted by bunnies in a pet store. There are so many wonderful rabbits in shelters and rescues waiting to be adopted who would make wonderful companions. You'll make somebunny really happy!

Greetings Compassionate Shopper,

We recently posted a quote on Leaping Bunny's Facebook page from the Dalai Lama that said, "Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." This post garnered the most 'likes' and 'shares' we have ever received! We are happy to know that there are so many compassionate people out there!

You may be wondering how you can help animals in your everyday life. It's easier than you may think, and it starts in your makeup bag, under your kitchen sink, or in your bathroom medicine cabinet. Simply put: Don't buy products tested on animals. Pledge to go cruelty-free and look for the Leaping Bunny! With nearly 400 companies on our list, it's easy to shop with compassion!

Just last month Leaping Bunny reached two important milestones: We collected over 10,000 pledges to go cruelty-free and we reached more than 10,000 fans on Facebook. We thank each and every one of you for your commitment to supporting companies that do not test on animals at any stage of development or production. But there is more work to be done, and you can help. Here are four easy ways to promote the Leaping Bunny Program:

  • Find us on Facebook and post a link to Leaping Bunny on your wall to educate friends about our program.
  • Follow us on Twitter! We'll be posting some Twitter-only promos in the coming weeks and months.
  • Sign our pledge to go cruelty-free if you haven't already done so.
  • Participate in our Leaping Bunny Pledge Contest for a chance to win a fabulous basket of cruelty-free products. Details are below.

Help us spread the word about what you already know to be true: animal testing on cosmetics and household goods is cruel and unnecessary. Our collective voice can be the impetus for change.

Vicki Katrinak

Save Bunnies and Money When You Shop Cruelty-free

Dear Compassionate Shopper,

Recently, much has been made of greenwashing, the exaggeration of a product's environmental friendliness to appeal to eco-conscious consumers. Often this practice affects claims about animal testing.

Fortunately for you, there is the Leaping Bunny Program, cruelty-free certification that provides the best assurance that a company does not test on animals. Just recently, the Leaping Bunny Logo was featured on the website greenfudge.org as a label you can trust.

Over 300 companies are Leaping Bunny certified, with more being added each month. We've worked out some special deals with some of them to save you money. Read on for more information, and take the pledge to go cruelty-free today!

Be rewarded for going cruelty-free

Life is hectic. So how can you find time in the day to help reduce the suffering of animals in the world? By becoming a compassionate shopper, of course!
.
With over 300 Leaping Bunny certified companies, cruelty-free shopping has never been easier. By choosing to only support companies that do not conduct or commission animal testing, you are sending a strong message to the marketplace that these practices are unnecessary and unacceptable. Companies are listening, and slowly but surely are changing their ways.
.
We at Leaping Bunny want to make cruelty-free shopping fun and convenient for you, so we created the Compassionate Shopping Guide, available online, as a wallet-sized insert, and as a free iPhone App. It makes taking the leap to cruelty-free products
even easier!

All of the companies certified through the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program are doing their part to help eliminate the cruel and unnecessary use of animals in product testing. However, some companies are going the extra mile by helping us raise money to further the work of the Leaping Bunny Program. You can help too, just by shopping from these great cruelty-free companies!

Spring has sprung and with it comes the bunny. Whether munching on grass in your yard or plastered on holiday decorations, rabbits seem to be everywhere! Despite these idyllic images, thousands languish in laboratories as test subjects, undergoing painful and unnecessary procedures for the cosmetic and household products industries.
.
Fortunately, consumers like you can make a difference for these animals by pledging to go cruelty-free and only purchasing from companies that have joined the Leaping Bunny Program, assuring that they will not test on animals during any stage of product development. With over 300 companies in our Compassionate Shopping Guide including Burt's Bees, Urban Decay and Tom's of Maine, shopping with compassion couldn't be easier. If a product says "Cruelty-Free" or has a bunny on it, that means it hasn't been tested on animals.

.

This is simply not true as the devil is often in the details. Designation as "cruelty-free" or "not tested on animals," or even the image of a bunny on a label may only refer to the finished product, when in fact, most animal testing occurs at the ingredient level. Furthermore, while a company may claim, "We do not test on animals," it could still contract other companies to do the testing. The only way to be 100% certain of your cruelty-free choices is to buy from companies that have been certified by the Leaping Bunny Program, which requires that no new animal testing be used in any phase of product development by the company, its laboratories, or ingredient suppliers. .
